19    On Celebrity Cruises’ Millennium-class ships, a thalassotherapy pool is placed in an area that had been designed for free access. At one point, a sign at the entrance of the pool area stated something like “Spa Pool for Paying Spa Guests Only,” and Celebrity charged $20 for admission. Following an uproar on the “rec.travel.cruises” Usenet newsgroup, the company issued a public message from the “Vice-President of Total Guest Satisfaction” in mid-July 2001 announcing it was discontinuing the charge.

30    Many cruise lines provided vouchers for discounts on future cruises as their settlement of claims of overcharges in port charges. Carnival Cruise Line, for example, issued 4.5 million vouchers worth $126 million toward future cruises. Vouchers ranged in value from $25 to $55, depending on the length of cruise taken. That lawsuit, filed in 1996, was finally settled in May 2001.
