Jane walked to the elevator of the station area, looking around and smiling a little bit.
It was so nice to be in the familiar place, and when people walked past her they bowed their heads and nodded in respect or they smiled because they knew just how much power she had around here. Jane was the epitome of competence in her area, plus she was probably the best detective around and knew exactly what she was doing. Jane not only had the brains to help her out and solve cases, but she also had the body to boot. She looked sexy and seductive.
Jan
e stood at about 5’7” and weighed about 130 pounds. She had a lot of muscle, and her D cup breasts definitely helped. She had blonde hair and green eyes that seemed to bore into one’s soul. Many people thought she was sexy; that was until she opened her mouth and they saw just how bitchy she really was.
Jane knew that she was a bitch. She acknowledged
that and she was willing to accept the ramifications of being one. After all, she was one of the best detectives in the country and she had the opportunity to go on all of the dangerous and daring missions. There wasn’t a case that she couldn’t solve, and Jane worked hard to be the woman she was today. Although Jane was a genius, she definitely had a lot to learn in the friendliness department. She was not one of the nicer people that worked there, but she was very real with people and she did make it a hobby of to see past the bullshit that many people liked to form.
As
Jane waited for the elevator to go up she looked behind her. The invisible glass allowed her to see all around the area from the reception, to the restaurant to even the little janitorial door that led to the area where the cooks and such seemed to hang out. Jane couldn’t help but smile at their foolishness. They may be doing okay, but they didn’t have the fame that she did. She was notorious in a good way around here, not just for the sex appeal that she exuded but also because she was cunning and intelligent like no other.
When the elevator
dinged, Jane smiled and started to head out of there. She was going to her boss’s office to find out her next mission that she was supposed to take on. Jane knew that there was something about this one that was going to be different, but she didn’t know exactly what it was. Jane just sighed as she walked up to the door of the office and knocked on it, flashing a fake grin as she waited for the door to open.
Sure enough, when the door opened her least favorite person in the world stood before her.
The name of the lady was Sylvia and she was as rotten as people came. She had platinum-blonde hair and a small chest, and the minute Sylvia realized who it was she looked at Jane with a sneer on her face as she eyed the woman up and down.
“Well
, look who it is,” the woman cooed.
“Yes
, it’s me Sylvia. Just let me through, please. I have to talk to Thomas,” Jane replied.
“Aww
, you’re going on another mission? I hope this one is your last,” Sylvia said. She hated Jane because the only reason Jane had fame and she didn’t was because Jane played dirty in the police academy and threw the woman off the course. Of course, Jane said it was an “accident” but the only other person who knew the truth was her. Since then Sylvia had vowed to get rid of Jane once and for all.
“It probably won’t be, but thanks for looking out for me. How’s being Thomas’
s bitch?” Jane retorted.
The woman flushed and
opened the door. Jane gave her a fake grin and walked inside. She could tell that Sylvia was seething and Jane struck a nerve. She knew that Sylvia hated being considered inferior to her, but the only reason why she even had the position she was in was because she begged Thomas to take her and Thomas has a hard time saying no to women. That was how Sylvia got the spot and she did it on purpose just so that she could attempt to harass Jane every time Jane walked into the office.
Jane
wasn’t in the mood for games, however. She wanted to get this show on the road and she was more than willing to do so when she got there. When she opened the door, she saw the familiar and beaming face of Thomas who looked at her like his favorite rock star just appeared in his office. Jane smiled back at him, but the man sitting in the seat she was normally in caused her to frown in displeasure.
“Who the hell is in my chair?”
she said in a bossy manner. Jane folded her arms over and glared at Thomas, who smiled sheepishly at the woman.
“Hello there
, Jane. Have a seat and I’ll explain everything,” the man replied. Jane looked at him as if he was on something, but followed the man’s wishes and moved her body into the other seat. She gave a displeased look as she sat in the other chair, which was certainly less comfortable than the one she called her own. She looked at Thomas and then looked at the man beside her with a frown plastered on her face.
“Okay
, now that it’s done can you please explain to me what the hell is going on? Why is this man in my seat first of all and even in our meeting? You know I’m not a fan of an audience,” Jane started.
Thomas gave her another fake smile before he spoke once again. “Well Jane, for your next mission you won’t be going into it alone, you’ll have a partner this time around and I hope you’re able to take care of him and ensure that he comes out alive,” Thomas explained.
Jane looked at him and scoffed. This was getting beyond ridiculous and she didn’t need a partner. She felt like the hatred for the man next to her was about to boil over, and Jane also felt insulted at the sheer idea of working with a man who wasn’t even on her level in any way shape or form.
“What the hell do you mean?”
she asked.
“I mean what I say. For the next mission you will have a partner. This man will be your partner. His
name is Franklin and I hope you’re able to get along well and figure out how to solve this case,” Thomas said.
Jane looked over the man and inwardly she
felt disgust, but for some reason she also saw the man as kind of cute. He had brown hair that was cut short but looked clean, a little bit of stubble on his cheeks and chin, and he had blue eyes. He had on a trench coat and a suit underneath it, which was weird to see considering it wasn’t that bad outside. It was also a complete contrast to Jane’s outfit, which was a simple skirt and sweater ensemble that looked casual in comparison. She didn’t like the way he smiled at her, and when he flashed a warm grin at her again Jane wanted to hit him in the face. She was too good for this, and she didn’t need some little imp tagging along and trying to bring her down. Jane didn’t need him; she was already fine on her own.
“
Why do I need this? You know I can handle missions on my own. I don’t need any help,” Jane said.
“
First of all don’t consider him on the same level. Think of the man as an apprentice of sorts. He is trying to learn the ropes of detective work, and I know that if he works with you he will learn a whole lot. He recently got out of the police academy and I want him to also go and solve cases that you can’t get to. But I want him to get his feet wet first before he does anything else, which is why I’m going to assign him to you. I don’t want you to do everything for him, but if he does have a question, please answer it and don’t give him too much of a hard time,” the man replied.
Jane looked in disgust at this man. Never in her life had she wanted to punch someone so
badly as when she saw this man. Jane felt insulted that she was getting stuck not only with some sort of bitch work job, but also getting a partner who’s a rookie compared to her.
“I still don’t like it. Besides
, what kind of case is it that you have to give me a partner like him to work with?” she asked.
“T
his case involves something that you’re familiar with. I thought you would be the perfect partner for him considering your track record with the area,” Thomas replied.
Jane looked at the man
like he had just grown three heads. It didn’t make any sense at all why her familiarity meant that she had to be the equivalent of an adult babysitter for this man.
“Why do I need to babysit him
, though? I mean I can totally handle it myself, right?”
“You could
, Jane, but that’s not the point. The point of this is I want you to learn how to work together with people and try to really understand them. You’re a great person and I’m happy to have you as part of my team, but I want to hone your teamwork skills right now,” Thomas explained.
“What the hell does ‘teamwork’ have to do with this? I’ve been fine working on my own and I don’t need a person to bring me down,”
Jane said.
“
Like I said though, it’s a skill I want to hone. I’m going to have you be his partner for this, and I’m not going to take any other answer. Is that clear?” Thomas sacked. He was serious, too, and when Jane looked at him, she knew that there was no arguing.
“Fine,”
Jane said. She crossed her legs and arms against each other, looking at Thomas with a wary eye. She was not happy about this at all, and frankly, she felt more insulted than anything.
“Good.
I’m glad you’re at least somewhat willing to work together for this case. Now onto the details. There were a couple of kidnappings and some murders all in the red light district area. Apparently, it’s all centered on a BDSM club that you might be familiar with. I know that you’re perfect for this job, but it might be too easy for you. I was going to have Franklin work on it all on his own, but he is pretty new so I thought why don’t we get this one out of the way and I’ll have you two work together. That’s the plan for this one. You’re supposed to investigate the area and try to find suspects. I have the list of all the people murdered in that area in the last three to four weeks. Look over it and try to see if you can deduce anything from that. When you’re ready, you can go check out the club. I have tickets for you two for later tonight so you can get in there and try to investigate around and talk to some of the patrons,” Thomas explained.
“Sounds good to me,”
Jane replied. She didn’t mind an easy case occasionally, but still the idea of having to work with this guy deeply insulted her and she could feel her pride ripping to shreds when she thought about it.
“Good.
I’m glad we’re on the same page. Here is the file of the victims. I suggest you take a look at them and try to find a connection to all of this. I’m going to talk to Franklin a little bit more about everything and what it all entails, but you’re dismissed if you have no further questions,’ Thomas said.
“I think that’s fine with me,”
Jane said.
“
Good. By the way, here is Franklin’s number. You can put it in your phone to call him when you need him,” he said. Thomas gave Jane a small card and she almost wanted to tear it up in front of him. Jane was not keen at all about working together with this man at all, and she would rather eat dirt at this point than do that.
“
Thanks,” Jane said coldly as she pocketed the card. Thomas smiled and Franklin flashed a grin at her, which was received with a death stare. Jane wasn’t in the mood for this man’s shit, and Jane certainly wasn’t going to have it now. Jane walked out and Franklin continued to stare at her, and Jane almost wanted to yell at him for looking at her so much. It was somewhat creepy, and Jane wasn’t comfortable with working with a partner period. She was a loner, and that was how she operated
Jane walked to the elevator and looked behind her
gain. She still hated the idea of her working with this man, but she wasn’t going to bitch about it right now. The man did have a few questions, but Jane didn’t want to answer them right now. She was too upset over her pride being killed like that, so the last thing she wanted to see right now was more of the man. Jane went to the elevator and pushed the button, taking her to the first floor where the café was.
The café was the place where
Jane did a lot a of the investigation work. Jane liked to prepare herself mentally for investigations, so she did like to have a bit of time to look it over and think of the best way to go about things. It was her way of working, and she didn’t have to feel the pressure that many people seemed to like to throw on her frequently. Jane did like the ambiance of the café too, with its smooth jazz playing over the speakers, the nice leather couches that had tables in front of them so she didn’t have to feel like her butt was sitting on hard wood, unlike the tables at the other coffee shops in the area. It was super comfortable and Jane was within an elevator’s trip to Thomas’ office, so if she needed anything else, she could run and grab it.
Jane grabbed her usual drink that she had and sat down in her usual spot, looking around. The café was
dead thankfully, so Jane didn’t have to deal with people and trying to get them to leave her alone. She grabbed the file, spread it out over the table, and started to look at it, trying to eye each of the different papers in the file.
Jane started to go through each one and her gears started ticking. Each of the victims was a man who
was last seen in the club, so it looked like they were patrons. It seemed to help narrow it down a little bit, as it indicated that it was someone who seemed to have knowledge of the area. The question was why. Why in the world did the person do it? All of the men weren’t of money, fame or anything of any value. However, when Jane got to the last two files, the continuity seemed to go away immediately. The last two victims were women of different clubs, one of them being the club where the male victims were from. It seemed a bit weird, and Jane didn’t know how to put it all together. Jane would have to talk to a couple of people first before she could even get a clear answer on anything.
