When Edie and Anatoli had read the letter that morning, both of them had wept for joy. Reading it again brought more tears, and she looked up into her friends’ smiling faces.
‘Well,’ Ruby said, wiping her own eyes. ‘I thought our Marleen’d be the first to make one of us a grandmother, knowing her. Not young David.’
‘So, I don’t s’pose you’ll ever be going to Israel again, will you?’ one of her friends teased.
‘You just try stopping me!’ Edie beamed. ‘You don’t think I’d miss seeing my new daughter and grandchild do you?’
