Seth grinned as he leaned in again, biting Jack’s lip before offering another deep kiss. When he pulled back for a breath, he said softly, “Yeah, I did. You looked so… hot.” They both laughed as Jack kissed him again before letting him go on. “But you also looked totally lost and stressed out. I really wanted to see you let go.”

Thinking back to that emotionally draining therapy session, Jack chuckled. “Mission accomplished.”

Nodding, sliding his legs against Jack’s, Seth whispered, “Yeah, mission accomplished. You needed that so much more than you wanted to admit.”

Jack really couldn’t argue with that. He’d felt better ever since, even with the tears and the ups and downs. He felt free for the first time in his life. Free of guilt and free of shame. Free of all the things that had been holding him back. He wasn’t afraid to tell people what he really thought now, for better or worse. “You’re pretty amazing,” he whispered, meaning it, loving his new confidence to say it.

“So are you.”

Seth pushed Jack onto his back and crawled over him, kissing him more, but Jack stopped him, asking, “Is this… unethical or…?”

Grinning, Seth pulled back and looked into Jack’s eyes. “Two months ago, yeah, but no one in your family is under my care, and Rick already suggested I look you up when I got back to town, so I think we’re okay here.”

Jack’s eyes widened in surprise. “He did?”

Biting his bottom lip around his smile, Seth nodded and kissed him again. “He did. I guess he thinks I’m good for you or something.”

Jack could hear the teasing in Seth’s voice, but he couldn’t agree more. “I think he’s right.”

Leaning in and nipping at Jack’s collarbone, Seth whispered, “Me too,” before slowly moving down Jack’s body, leaving a warm trail of kisses as he went. His progress was interrupted by a quick buzzing sound from the nightstand. Jack’s phone flashed in the darkness. Fearing it might be his son, unable to think of anyone else who would contact him so late at night, Jack reached for the phone. A text from Mindy flashed across the screen.

Guess I should invest in those earplugs? ;)

Jack laughed and showed Seth the message. “I forget how thin these walls are.”

Seth dipped his head back and let out his own bark of laughter. “Sorry, Mindy!”

They didn’t talk much the rest of the night.

They didn’t get much sleep either.

J.H. KNIGHT
has been writing love stories since the second grade. When she’s not catering to the whims of her imaginary friends (whom she sometimes refers to as “characters”), she’s usually found driving her four children all over the planet, working on a school project, or saying things like “Not until your homework is done!”

A Pacific Northwest native, she loves the outdoors in every season whether she’s in the city, in the mountains, or building sloppy sandcastles with her kids on the beach. On her best days, she’s cuddled up with a good book, and on her worst days she’s tearing her hair out as she tries to decide if her sentence needs a comma or a semicolon. She gratefully bows down in awe of editors, since she usually gets it wrong.

Tommy O’Shea is raising his seven younger brothers and sisters without any help from his drug abusing father and stepmother. Since he was fifteen years old, he's managed to keep the children fed and out of foster care. It takes up every ounce of his energy and the last thing he needs is romance complicating his life further.

Rookie cop Bobby McAlister doesn't belong in Tommy’s harsh world, but Tommy can’t push him out. As their unlikely friendship turns into a tentative relationship, they weather the daily storm of Tommy’s life with a lot of laughs and more than a few arguments.

Tommy isn't used to trusting outsiders, and he's never asked for help in his life. But when a tragedy strikes the O'Shea family and threatens everything he's fought for, he'll have to learn to do both to recover from the brutal hit.

Skip thought he had it all: the fabulous husband, the great apartment, and the teaching job he’d always wanted. Even the cat was perfect. When his partner of eight years decides he wants something else—something that doesn’t involve Skip or the apartment or even the cat—Skip decides it’s time to go home to the other side of the country.

However, Skip’s hometown doesn’t just hold a loving meddling mother but also the memories of his awkward crush on a boy he met his senior year in high school. A boy he humiliated himself in front of just when it looked as if his fantasies might become reality. Finding out Paul Miller is now working at the same high school where Skip has just been hired flips his world upside down. After a heated night together, Skip is happy being friends with benefits. Paul will have to convince him love is worth the risk.
