Blood Lust and The Slayer (4 page)

The horse ran into the stable and Drake took his cape off from around them and dismounted, then grabbed Jaqulin, and carried her to the castle where it met the stable.  Then rain though what rain they had to and made it inside.

When inside Drake sat her down and said "I'm sorry if I got you a little wet in that last dash for the castle."

She smiled and said "oh I don't mind it."  Then kissed him on the cheek for what he did for her.  When she passed by Sequin she gave him a drop dead look of he had better not interfere with her and Drake.

Drake just smiled in his direction saying "She's quite a woman."  Then quickly took of his wet cape, and handed it to James who preceded to hand him a dry one to tie on.

Sequin sighed and said aloud "Drake, the most wonderful man in the world who is probably a vampire, gets a kiss.  And what do I get? A drop dead look and the cold shoulder."  He shook his head as he got up and went to see about some dry cloths and a warm bed for a nap after that brisk ride though the rain.

Chapter Five: Games and Realizations

The storm continued though the night and the only thing, Jaqulin found out, that you could do was set and listen to the sound of the rain beating against the castle.

Drake sat with her, with her head against his chest and noticed how board she was.  He readjusted his body beneath her and asked "How about we play a game?"

Her eyes brightened and looked up at him asking "really?" and he felt his stomach quiver and his heart warm from the smile.  But those bright eyes dimmed as she asked "what game is there to play?"

"How about Hide and Seek?" he offered.

"That child's game?" she asked in skepticism.

"Yes, it is a fun game at times.  And also a romantic one at times."  Drake whispered in her ear as he came closer and rubbed her stomach gently.

Jaqulin smiled and said "Alright, how about I hide and you seek."

"Hmm, playing hard to get.  I like that."  Drake said with a smirk. "Alright, you go hide and I'll come find you." He leaned down to cover his eyes, but Jaqulin saw he was peeking, so she came back over and put his cape up over his head. "Aw, you caught me." He whined.

"That's right." Was all that she said and went to hide.  Drake counted to fifty, then proceeded to flip his cape off of his head where she had put it, and started searching for her.

"I'm coming to find you my dear."  Drake whispered as he traveled down one of the dark corridor's in the castle.  "I'm coming to get you."

Before he could react, Jaqulin came out of a shadow and scared him "Ha! I scared you." She said in a mocking tone.

"Yes, but I'm going to get you." Drake said as he came after her.

Determined to give him a run for his money, she ran away.  Trying her best to keep out of his reach.  She ran as fast as she could, holding her dress up to her knees so not to rip it, and ran out into the main court yard. She looked up for a moment and saw the rain beating against a pretty glass dome protecting the ground below.

The momentary stop gave Drake enough time to catch up.  The moment she noticed that Drake had caught up, it was too late.  He grabbed her and they fell together on the soft ground surrounding the fountain in the center of the court yard.

They struggled for a moment, wrestling on the ground, and laughing.  "Oh Jaqulin.  I've never had so much fun in my life." Drake sighed as he came to a rest on top of her, and his cape lying on and around them.

"Nor I." Jaqulin smiled as her hands came to a rest flat against his chest "Oh, I never want to leave." She sighed as her eyes locked with his. And it was the first time that she noticed how deep and gorgeous his silver eyes were.  She smiled and realized that in two days she had fallen in love with him.

She looked around and saw they were all alone under the pale moon light.  She then moved her hands off his chest and around his neck, reached up and kissed him.

Shocked, all he could do was enjoy the precious, wonderfully sweet taste of her mouth and go with the flow.

She pulled her mouth away and looked up into his eyes.  He didn't want to stop and kissed her again.  She fell to his warm touch of his tongue and trusted him more then ever.

They pulled away and Jaqulin smiled at the warm feeling.  "Jaqulin, would you like to dance?" he asked.

She gave him a curious look and asked "There's no music. What will we dance to?"

"Oh, I can take care of that."  He said in a cocky tone, and clapped his hands together.  Out of no where James appeared with a turntable and a record already in place.  He started the turntable turning and a wonderful sweet music came out of it.  "Care to dance my lovely vision of beauty?"  Drake asked once the music had set a steady pace.

She blushed at the complement and smiled nodding.  He took her left hand in his right, and wrapped his left arm around her waist.  She put her hand, with wrist bent, on his left shoulder, and they danced to the music as it went on.

They danced a waltz, they simply ballroom danced.  And then they slow danced with Jaqulin's head against Drake's chest.   Nothing could ruin her night with Drake, the man she had fallen deeply in love with.  Little did she realize about his true identity, at least not yet.

Drake had a decision to make.  He new that.  But he had to make it tonight, other wise her and her brother would probably pack up the next day and leave, and he would risk the chance of never seeing her again.  His heart, he decided, couldn't take that.  At least not without her knowing what he was and how much he cared for her.

The turn table began to wind down, as well as Jaqulin did, Drake noticed.  "Tired honey?"  He asked softly as he leaned his head down to hers.

She nodded softly, but before she could do anything about it, she fell into his arms, asleep.  "I must have really worn her out tonight." He said aloud.

"Yes, you did sir.  I suggest you take her to bed, she seems that she needs it."  James said, coming up behind Drake. "I'll take care of everything Master Drake."

"Thank you James." Drake said and he watched her closely as he picked her up and began carrying her up to her bedroom.  He was careful not to jar her too much as he made the journey up the stairs, then down the hall to the room.

He gently sat her down in bed and covered her with the quilt on the bed.  "She truly is a vision of beauty.  How could such an angel happen upon one of the devils own doorsteps?" he asked himself as he smoothed some hair away from her face.  Her hair lay spread out around her head, making it look like an ora of dirty gold around her.

He leaned down, pressed a light kiss to her head, and started to walk out of the room when he heard her talking in her sleep.  "Oh Drake, I love you."  Drake paused in the doorway, smiled and thought to himself "I love you too; from the bottom of my heart." He then left the room and went down into the den.  He was close to the final decision but needed James's opinion on the subject.

As he walked he knew that he loved her, and was no longer just a meal to him.  In fact he didn't want to bite her at all.  He'd rather kiss her.  He finally made it down to the den, and practically collapsed on the couch.  He saw James in the door way and said "James, please come have a seat.  I must speak with you."

"Of course master Drake.  What is it you need?"  James asked as he sat down in the seat across from his master.

"James. You've known me most of my life, correct?"  Drake asked.

"Yes, sir.  Ever since you were a little boy after being bitten by that vampire 20 years ago." James replied "Why sir?"

"Well, I think that I have fallen madly in love with Jaqulin.  And I'm thinking about telling her the truth, making it her decision to stay or go.  Making it her decision for me to bite her or not.  Either way I'll be happy."  Drake replied.

"Sir, are you feeling alright?" James asked, jumping to the edge of his chair.

"Yes, yes of course.  Just love sick."  Drake said, smiling.  It was the first time that James had seen Drake smile without doing it to charm a woman.  "I think this is the woman to break me."

            "Break you, sir?"  James asked.

"Yes, the one woman, out of them all, that makes me want to just hold onto and not bite.  The first woman ever I second guessed trying to charm and use for a meal."  Drake replied, putting his hand on his forehead. "I have had bad experiences before that has made me wise.  When ever I lied to a woman that I loved she hated me more about it.  But what if I tried telling the truth this time.  What do you think will happen James?"  Drake asked.

"Well sir, it is possible that she will run, and have her brother slay you."  James replied.

"Slay me!?"  Drake asked as he jumped up to look at James. "WHY!? Why in the name of god?"

"Because he is a slayer that is after vampires, especially one that reminds him of the one who killed his parents.  I heard him talking to himself about trying to find evidence about you being one of them for his sister."  James replied "If you do tell the miss about you being of the undead, then I suggest you get to her before her brother does.  That way you can explain your side."

"Yes, James, yes your right.  I shall tell her the truth, tonight."  Drake decided. "And I will explain everything to her.  Not missing a detail, and then make it her decision, and her desire to stay or leave."

Sequin was busy looking up on as much as he could about Vampires and all.  But he couldn't find anything that would help.  Drake, he decided, had already proven everything he had up to be false after going out into the sunlight with his sister.  There was no hope, now that is until he heard Drake and his butler talking.

He eavesdropped on the whole conversation, and realized that Drake must truly love his sister, other wise he wouldn't plan to tell her about how he was a vampire.  That had to be what they were talking about.  Because he heard how much Drake loved her.  So, once and for all, he decided to take his sisters advice for a while and butt out.

He sighed as he sat back down on the bed and said to himself "If things go wrong and he gets her trapped.  I'll come in with a stake and take care of it from there out."

He started planning how he would follow Drake down to where ever he was going to lead Jaqulin to tell her the truth, and how he was going to stay unseen.  Then how he was going to hide in the chambers until everything was alright.  He smiled at how clever he was and decided to sleep until then.

Chapter Six: The Truth

Drake knew what he had to do, he had to invade Jaqulin's dreams again, and give her a message of where to meat him.  And that would be, he decided, down in his secret passage.

Drake slowly made his way down the hall to Jaqulin's bedroom.  Little did he know he was being followed by Sequin.  He entered her room and quickly, but softly, sat down by her side.

He leaned down to be closer to her face and lightly kissed her before he did what he had to do.  He put his palms of his hands hovering over both of her temples and closed his eyes to project himself into her mind.  He found himself wondering a void so large his could swallow his and her heart at the same time.  He did not understand the void until he remembered that her parents were killed by a rouge vampire without a soul.

He then began filling her dream with light this time.  He then saw she was wondering around in the darkness, alone.  He came over and turned her to him. She seemed profoundly relieved.  He came down and kissed her gently and said "Dear, I have something I want to tell you."
