“Okay,” I grinned, looking back at my parents
one last time.
Then I took a couple of steps and I was off,
streaking through the night, shooting over trees, and tearing
across hills. Enock was never far behind. He would let me win,
though. He always did. We both knew he was still much faster and
stronger than I was.
As the air split around me and my hands and
feet beat against the ground, I felt a rush of excitement, an
outburst of unrestrained freedom. So I leapt to a top branch on one
of the tallest trees in the forest. Holding onto the heart of the
tree with one hand, I took in a deep breath, and let it all out
with the greatest
roooaaar
I could manage.
Not
bad
, I thought, feeling my fangs press against my lips as I
smiled and caught my breath.
The leaves rustled as Enock landed on a
branch beside mine and
roooaaared
even louder, making the
air vibrate with his power. Then he stepped onto my branch to kiss
me.
“Forever mine,” Enock whispered into my
ear.
“Forever.”
Come, Enock—Sarafina,
an Anvilayan
called.
We both looked in the direction of the ship.
It wasn’t far.
“Ready?” Enock asked.
I smiled and jumped to the ground, before
taking off once more. We ran over the hill where it had all began
and through a creek bed before I saw the great silvery ship, lit
with blue and white lights.
Enock slowed to a stop beside me and smiled
as he took my hand. “You win.”
I laughed and shook my head, ready for
whatever great adventure awaited Enock and me. It would be
fantastic, I knew, as long as we braved it together.

By April Marcom
Deadly disaster strikes when Good falls
in love with Evil.
Kristine's just been adopted into North Haven
High, an ice castle hidden in the farthest reaches of the north for
orphaned teenagers who possess an unfailing disposition for good.
And she's just in time for their Winter Competitions, a rivalry
held each year between NHHS and Southland Cinder High, a school
made up of the exact opposite sort of teens. Here she finds Knight,
a Cinder she grew up with but lost contact with years ago. And even
though it's forbidden, she begins to fall for him. Of course, her
North Haven boyfriend's got a thing or two to say about that. But
Kristine doesn't care. She's happier than she's been in years as
she gets closer and closer to the man she's falling completely in
love with and having crazy fun with her new roommates.
Unfortunately it's short lived, because
everything begins going wrong.
