CHAPTER 15

JAMEL

It took me about twenty-five minutes to get to Albany. I was running red lights and all. I had received a call from MeMe but when I answered, it sounded like she dropped the phone because I heard it hit the floor and the call disconnected. I tried calling her back but she didn't answer. I had so much shit running through my head. My baby mama was in labor; not only did I fuck my wife’s mother but I nutted in her as well. I couldn’t get in touch with my wife. It wasn’t another nigga in this world that had more problems than me right now.

I was hoping that Taysia would call me back before I made it inside of the hospital but she didn’t. Watch this shit! I bet she call as soon as I get in the room with Meme. When I got to Meme’s room she was laying on her side crying. She was in there alone and that shit broke my heart seeing her like that. I was having mixed feelings. I had been treating MeMe like shit and none of this was her fault because I should've been fucking her with a rubber. Well, I shouldn’t have been fucking her at all really.

“MeMe, I’m here!” I said as I walked over and pulled a chair up to the bed. “You okay.”

“Hey…yeah I’m good,” she said softly and I held onto her hand.

“I’m sorry I missed your calls and texts, but I’m here now and that’s all that matters.” I kissed her hand softly. She squeezed my hand tight as hell and let out a piercing scream.

“Ahhh!! God Please!!!” She cried and held her stomach with her other hand. I didn’t know what to do. She was scaring me with the way she was screaming.

“You good?” I asked and she nodded her head. My phone was vibrating constantly in my pocket. I pulled it out and saw it was Taysia calling. Once the screen cleared I put it back in my pocket. I waited for the screen to clear just in case it accidentally answered once I put it back in my pocket.

“So what’s going on? How long we got until my baby gets here?”

“I don’t know. They said it shouldn’t be too much longer because I’m making great progress. So we’re just waiting it out. They should be back in here in a little while to check my cervix again to see if I dilated some more.”

My phone started vibrating again. Taysia was calling nonstop. I looked at the phone again and saw that Taysia had sent me a text message.

Wifey: Call me ASAP! Emergency!

What the fuck was going on?
I thought. I know Mrs. Debra had better not started any shit! I swear to God, if she did I was going to have her ass knocked off. I didn’t give a fuck if she was Taysia’s mother. She didn’t give a damn about her anyway. I had to see what the hell was going on.

“MeMe, I’ll be right back okay, I promise.”

“JaMel, where you going? You can’t leave….” she wined.

“I forgot to hit the alarm on my car. Let me go lock it up real quick. I promise I’ll be right back!” At least I didn’t lie to her. I did forget to lock my doors. I just stretched the truth a lil bit. I couldn’t tell her it was Taysia. She already looked as if she was under enough stress. I wasn’t trying to add to it. I kissed her on her forehead and headed downstairs to my car. I was calling Taysia’s phone all the way to my car but she wouldn’t answer. I hopped in my car and closed the door. I dialed her phone again.
What the fuck?
I turned around when I heard Taysia’s phone ringing behind me. All I saw was the bottom of Taysia’s shoe connecting to my nose.

“Ahhhhh shit!!!!!” My nose was bleeding like a muthafucka.
Man I swear! If it ain’t one thang, it’s another!

Chapter 16

NATAYSIA

I positioned myself just right behind the driver’s seat. JaMel hopped in the car all calm and shit. That nigga looked like he saw a ghost when he called my phone and heard it ringing behind him. Soon as he turned around I footed the shit out of his face.

“Ahhhhh shit!!!!!” he yelled as if I gave a fuck. I leaped across the seat on his ass. I was kicking and punching nonstop. JaMel needed to feel my pain right now.

“The fuck you doing at the hospital JaMel?!?! Huh? And don’t fucking lie?” I didn’t even give him a chance to answer. I took my nails and clawed deep in his face. My nails tore through his flesh. I didn’t care about his nose bleeding either. I was hoping that the bitch was broke.

“Calm down Tay!! The fuck is you talking about?” This nigga was playing with my intelligence. One thing about us females, if we ask you some shit, nine times out of ten we already know the answer to it.

“You know what the fuck I’m talking about?!?! You think I’m stupid Mel!!” I kicked him in his side, trying my best to break a rib. I was fighting so wild that I was now in the passenger’s seat. This shit was way worse than Ike and Tina in the back of the limo. JaMel was trying his best to gain control of me, but he couldn’t. I wasn’t having that shit. I was making him feel what my heart felt, physically.

“Why JaMel? Never in a million years would I have though you would cheat on me!!!!! You son of a bitch!!!” I back handed his ass and bust his lip. It started to swell soon after I hit him. That nigga didn’t have any other choice but to come clean. He knew that I knew about his hidden secret.

“I’m sorry Taysia. I swear bae. I’m sorry. I’ma make this shit right bae! I promise!” he pleaded.

“Fuck you Jamel don’t fucking touch me! Six years! Six fucking years!!!” I hit his hand when he tried to reach for me. “This marriage is over!!! You did this shit, blame yourself!” I cried.

“Taysia, please don’t do this baby. I made a mistake. That shit was wrong. I know I fucked up, but please don’t leave!” I opened the door and tried to get out of his car but he was holding on to my arm.

“JaMel let me the fuck go!!” I screamed. JaMel wouldn’t let me go for nothing. I was crying uncontrollably. I had been with this man since I was eighteen years old. How could he do me like this? I starting blaming myself, because I honestly felt like it was my fault. I couldn’t have kids. She was giving him something that I couldn’t give him. JaMel was twenty-seven years old. How could I expect him to grow old without any kids? I still loved JaMel with all of my heart but, I loved Mega too. See, with JaMel it was like I didn’t want him, but at the same time I didn’t want anyone else to have him either. I wasn’t about to let MeMe win and If I left JaMel, then she would.
What the fuck is going on with my life right now?
I looked JaMel in his eyes and he was crying as well. I knew JaMel loved me and I knew he truly felt bad about what he had done to me. That didn’t mean shit to me right now though. He had crossed the fucking line. That was the worse of the worst. He just made it easier for me to leave his ass to be with Mega. Payback’s a bitch! I started to call and tell Mega that his baby sister was pregnant by my husband, but I wasn’t trying to get JaMel killed. Nor did I want MeMe to try and tell JaMel the shit I had been doing.

              “You love her?” I asked.

“Hell no, I don’t love her! She don’t mean shit to me! I love you! You’re my wife!” He stressed.

              “Then prove it!” I demanded.

“What you want me to do?”

“Let’s go!” I slammed the door closed.

“Come on Taysia, I can’t just lea…” I held my hand up to his face and cut him off.

“If you love me like you say you do then leave this bitch here! She don’t mean shit to you, right?” He shook his head ‘no’ without saying a word.

“Then crank this muthafucka up and let’s go!” With that being said, JaMel started up the whip and pulled out of the parking lot.

“What about your car?” he asked. I had forgotten all about my car and the fact that Mrs. Mildred had rode with me. Good thing she had planned on staying with MeMe.

“Shit! Take me to it. I’ll follow you home,” I told him.

We pulled up beside my car and I got out.

“Give me your phone!” I said before closing the door. He handed it to me with no problem. I was going to make sure that he didn’t get in contact with MeMe at all. Fuck her! Bitch been in my face the entire time and had been fucking my husband! She just didn’t know. She had an ass whooping waiting on her soon as she dropped that load!

I hopped in my car and we headed back to Cuthbert. On the way back I had to call Kira and let her know what the fuck was going on. She’s not going to believe this shit. Debra had been calling me every day for the last few weeks and I’ve been ignoring her. I didn’t have time for her shit. I had too much shit going on in my life as it is. She was just another problem that I didn’t need.

Chapter 17

MeMe

When Taysia said that JaMel was her husband, I almost passed out with her. I buzzed the nurse’s station and they came rushing in and took her out. I hoped that she was okay. I bet she probably wanted to kill my ass right now, but I honestly did not know that she was JaMel’s wife. I just hoped she didn’t tell my brother about this shit. I had genuinely grown close to Taysia, but I knew that after this, the relationship we had formed would never be the same. The crazy thing about it was that I was still in love with JaMel regardless of what I had just found out. You can’t help who you love and she would just have to understand that. I wasn’t even going to tell him about Taysia and my brother. As a matter of fact, I wasn’t even going to mention her to him at all.

I was shocked when JaMel came walking through the door. I had been calling his ass since I left my house. I felt a sense of relief when I saw him because I didn’t feel alone anymore, but just as soon as he came, he left. He wasn’t in here with me a good twenty minutes. His phone continued to ring and I knew in my heart that it was probably Taysia calling. He promised he would be right back, but right back turned into never.

I was crying up something when the nursing staff ran in there and said that the baby’s heart rate was dropping and I needed to have an emergency C-section. I didn’t care about anything else at that moment. Fuck JaMel! I just wanted my baby to be okay. The nurses were running all over my room. I was already nervous and they were making the shit worse.

“Mrs. Banks, we’re going to have to put you to sleep for this procedure, okay? Do you have any family members here with you that we can update on your situation?” the doctor asked. I was just about to say no when I heard my room door open.

“I’m her brother doc. My name’s De’Carlos.” Mega walked in looking just like our dad. I just smiled. My brother was always there when I needed him. Grandma Mildred was right behind him. She was shaking her head so I knew she knew what had gone on and had found a way to call Mega.

“How are you De’Carlos?” They shook hands. Very quickly, the doctor ran down the procedure to Mega. Next thing you know they were pushing me towards the operating room.

Lord I was so nervous. All I saw were these huge lights over my entire body. Everyone in the room had on surgery masks.

“Hello Mrs. Banks. I’m John the anesthesiologist. I’m going to inject the medication through your IV. You’ll be out in no time.”

“Okay.” I counted to ten to calm my nerves. I didn’t make it to number six before I was out cold.

***

I woke up in recovery to a bunch of nurses pressing on my stomach. I began screaming like hell. That shit hurt. I was glad they were about to take me to a room because recovery looked like a fucking morgue. Not only that, but I was ready to see my baby. I didn’t even know if it was a boy or a girl.

“Ms. Banks, are you ready to know the sex of your baby or do you want to wait until we bring the baby to you?” the nurse asked as she and one of her coworkers pushed me to my room.

“I’ll wait,” I said. I was so excited and anxious. About ten minutes later the nurse came walking in with my baby swaddled.

“Here is your little princess!” she smiled and handed her to me. I broke down when I first saw my daughter’s face. She was the prettiest baby ever. She looked like me and her dad. I named her JaMelia Kelis Banks. All of my frustrations and problems were turned into joy. I fell in love with my baby girl. Even though I was upset with JaMel for not coming back, I took a picture of what we created and sent it to his phone. The caption read-
You missed what could have been the best day of your life!

Chapter 18

NATAYSIA

When JaMel and I arrived back home, I told that nigga not to say shit to me! I didn’t even want his red ass to even look at me. The only reason I let him come back to our home was because I wanted to feel like I had won. I went in our bedroom and slammed the bedroom door shut, leaving him in the living room looking stupid. I still had his phone when a picture message came through. It was from MeMe. I figured it was a picture of the baby and I couldn’t wait to see it. I prayed that this baby looked nothing like Jamel so that I could convince him to get a blood test. Well, I was going to make him get one anyway.

When the picture finally opened up, the thought of them getting a blood test went out the window. This little girl looked every spit of my husband. She was a beautiful baby with a head full of hair. It made me wonder how my kids would have looked if they had survived. I couldn’t take it anymore. I won the fight, but MeMe had won the war. She had given my husband the most valuable thing that a woman could give a man. There was no way I could compete with that. I walked out of the room and threw JaMel his phone. He caught it.

“Congratulations,” I said. I grabbed my purse and keys, and walked out the door.

“Taysia, where you going?” JaMel asked. “Please don’t leave. Let’s talk about this shit!” He was right behind me as I walked to my car.

“JaMel, please just leave me alone right now. I need time to think. Just please let me think! Damn!” I cried. I guess he caught the hint, because he let me get in my car and pull off. I just needed to be alone. I drove to Village Peddler to get some gas. I was about to fill my tank up and just ride. I needed to get my thoughts together because I was so damn confused. I wanted to be with Mega, but at the same time I didn’t want anyone to have my husband. It had been established that I was no longer in love with JaMel but I just couldn’t take the thought of him starting a family with another woman. Then on top of it all I was pregnant and had the slightest clue of who was the father of my child. For now, I would just run with JaMel. I wasn’t going to let him play family with Meme. Fuck that! Call me an evil bitch if you want, but never judge a person if you’re not in their shoes.

When I pulled up to Village Peddler, like always, all of the old, perverted men were standing in front of the store like they didn’t have shit else to do during the day. I was already pissed off, and I wasn’t trying to go to hell for cussing out an elderly person so I didn’t even bother to get out. I put my car back in drive and pulled off. I decided to go to the Trading Post. It was the white folk’s store. I didn’t have to worry about being harassed and shit over there. They didn’t play that hanging around outside shit. I came to a stop sign then BOOM!!!! My head hit the steering wheel hard as fuck, causing the air bag to deploy.

“Ahhh shit! What the fuck?!” I yelled then looked in my rearview mirror. Somebody had drove full speed into the back of my car, and they were now backing up fast as hell as if they were about to leave the scene. I jumped out of my car so that I could get the tag number. Their windows were tinted so I was unable to see who the driver was. They sped off past me and whoever this psychotic muthafucka was didn’t even have a damn license plate on the damn truck. The only information I got was the make and model of the car. They were driving a 2014 all-black Suburban. What idiot in a nice a vehicle like that would pull a hit and run unless they didn’t have any insurance on it? Hell, if you can’t afford to have insurance then why in the hell would you buy the car? I reached in my car and grabbed my cell. I needed to call the police to report the accident. After calling the police I called Mega.

“What’s up Ms. Lady? I been tryna get in touch with you. You good?”              Mega must have known what had happened at the hospital.

“No, I’m not good! Somebody just hit me from the back in my car. Where you at? I need you to come pick me up”

“I’m almost in Cuthbert…where bout you at?”

              “I’m up by the square.”

“Aight, I’ll be there in a minute,” he said and we hung up.

I was now waiting for Mega and the police to get there. They both pulled up at the same time. After running all of the details to the police, I called the wrecker service to come pick up my car and I jumped in the truck with Mega. The police asked if I wanted to go to the hospital but I rejected. I had minor chemical burns from the airbag but it was nothing that I couldn’t fix. I was so devastated because I was now without a vehicle on top of everything else that was going on in my life. Mega turned down his radio. I pulled down his sun visor to look at minor burns on my face from the airbag. They were barely noticeable, thank God. I pulled out my cocoa butter stick and dabbed the tiny spots that were affected. They were mainly on my chin. You could hardly see it but I damn sure could feel it.

“Look ma, I know what went on today. My grandma called me as soon as you passed out at the hospital. Whatever you and my sister got going on, y’all need to dead that shit! She had no idea you was his wife. I ain’t tryna throw her no life jacket or nothing like that, because the shit is pretty fucked up. As for JaMel, the only thing saving that nigga right now is my lil niece! That’s the only thing. MeMe should be home in a few days. Y’all need to sit down and talk about this shit like grown women. ” I didn’t even respond to that bullshit Mega was talking. I just continued to look out the window, before I said something about his sister that he didn’t like.  He must have felt my vibe because he changed the subject.

“So a muthafucka just ran into the back of you and pulled off, huh?” he asked. He was looking at me while driving.

              “Pretty much,” I said.

“And you said they were driving an all-black Suburban?” he said as if he was plotting some shit.

              “Yeah they were.”

“Did you get a good look at’ em?” Mega had me feeling like I was in a damn interrogation room. I knew he was up to something.

“Nah, the windows were tinted. Mega, just let the law handle it. I mean, I’m pissed about them running into my shit and leaving the scene true enough, but I’m not tryna be malicious towards them.” He started laughing.

“What you talking about Ms. Lady? I ain’t gonna do shit.” He was still laughing but I knew better. Mega made a turn leading outside of Cuthbert. I didn’t know where we were going and I didn’t ask. I was just riding. JaMel was blowing my phone up the entire time and I was pressing ignore on his ass. I closed my eyes to just take a break from all of the events that transpired today.
