Alien Love Too! (3 page)

“What's so funny?”  Melody inquired with a puzzled look on her face.

“Mark.”  He snickered some more.  “I know you don't know it, but Mark once thought that he was bonding with you.  Jon doesn't know it, but Mark's talked with me about it far too many times.  The poor man thought that he was going crazy.  Jonathan was deeply bonding and Mark found himself jealous.  And as you know Mom, H’traeians
claim
they conquered the jealousy issue eons ago.  But that was before Dad Bonded with you!  Now all bets are off, regarding bonding with Earth females and remaining non-jealous.

Mark finally got over it though, but you made him suffer many a restless night because of it.  He wanted you bad!  I suspect he still has his moments, too.”

“I had no idea!  Why I love Mark, like you say, but I never . . . .”  Melody was interrupted by David.

“I know you didn't know.  And you had done nothing consciously to cause it.  I do want to tell you also, that it was your innate ability to ooze sensuality that did it to him, as well as every other man that's come in contact with you.  You're a real hot Mama!”

David laughed, goosing her ribs.  “There's just something about you that even I haven't been able to analyze, and I've tried, that stimulates a man's deeper desires.  I began seeing your affect on men when I was still nursing.  They stumble all over themselves whenever you're around.  It used to make me laugh.”  Then with a serious look he went on, “Now, it makes me worry.  Dad and I have to keep a constant vigilance whenever other men are around.”

“David, whatever for?” Melody questioned with a dumfounded look.

“One day some man may try to kidnap you . . . and make you his love slave,” David teased but there was a note of seriousness on his face.

Melody laughed, believing that he was just trying to make her feel special, in this very special little world that they all lived in.

“Mom, don't laugh.  I'm serious!  If Jon hadn't started bonding with you the moment he first saw you, there would have been hell, right here on earth with all the men on the ship fighting one another over you.”

“Well, I certainly didn't have that effect on the men I'd known before your father,” Melody said then burst out laughing at the very thought of men fighting over her, it was ridiculous!  Then she sobered, remembering just such a fight when she was seventeen, and only a few months before she met and married Jonathan.

“Mom, you kept to yourself before you met Dad.  Oh, I know that there were a few very close almost “love” affairs, but when you met Dad you released something that had been hidden deep inside you the whole time.  The results are as I just said, astounding!  If you weren't bonded and I hadn't known for an absolute certainty that you were my mother, I'd have gone after you with a vengeance!  But, you were, and Jon's the luckiest man I know, next to myself that is.”

“David, you are still my sweet little boy who just happened to turn into a gorgeous Prince one day while I was batting my very seductive eyelashes.”  She laughed, “But, I do understand what you've explained to me.  I'll try to look at you with a friend's eye first then a mother's second, but it will take me some time, if I ever can accomplish it.  You’re my baby boy and that’s it, young man, so get a grip!”

He laughed at her with twinkling eyes, identical to his dad’s.  She realized her son was across a gulf from her, but he would now and always be a very deeply loved and respected man and son, that would never change.

As she hugged and kissed him lightly on the lips, as she always had, she saw that the “son-look” was still there, right along with Jonathan's loving eyes.

She squeezed him tightly and he returned the hug saying, “Mom, I love you so much.  Thank you for loving me right back!  You're my rock in the mist of all the storms that come my way.  I've always been able to come to you with anything that had me worried, and you have never failed to make me feel better.”

“Well David,” she said as she pushed him back down on the lounge, “as my deepest, dearest friend, not as my son, how can I get Jonathan to give me another child?”

David's face frowned as he thought about her request.  He took a deep breath of salty sea air to clear his head and to perhaps come up with a plan for his mom.  He already knew Jon's feelings about the subject, because they had discussed it many times.  Although Jonathan’s fears were now unfounded, it didn't diminish his fear of losing Melody, for any reason.  David knew that Mel had been very persistent, but that she would never in the near future be able to talk him into another child.  He hated to tell her this, but she deserved the truth since she had asked him.  He had never lied to his mother, and only lied to others for the sake of protection of his family.

“Mom,” he said taking her hand, which looked so small inside his own.  “Dad will not allow you to get pregnant anytime soon.  His fear of losing you is too great.  I believe that if you will wait for about another year . . . he may change his mind.  But don't ever bring it up to him again, for at least a year.  That way he may forget about having to worry about it all the time, like he does now.  Your constant requests keep him emotionally upset.”

Melody didn't like his answer but she didn't realize that it was keeping her precious Jon so upset all the time.  “I'll do just that.  I didn't know that he stayed upset about it!  Thank you David for the advice.  I'll follow it.  Who knows, maybe it'll work?”

She thought for a moment then said, “I'm enjoying helping you and Beth raise Zane.  He's like you though, he'll be a full grown man long before I see twenty-two.  He's growing at almost twice the rate you did.”

David grinned, “It's those Royal genes coursing through his hot blood!  We Jontu men just love our women and we can't wait to get one!”  Then seeing a sad look come over her, he ventured, “Mom, what idea do you have that would keep you busy and happy for the next year?  Beth and I are too busy for us to have another child.  We'll wait for about three or four more years.  But, I think you should find something fun to do.”

Melody's eyes lit up.  “David, I'm glad you asked!  I've had an idea brewing for a while and I'd like your opinion, but don't breathe a word of it to Jon, at least not yet.”

“My lips are sealed.  Now, what is it that has you so excited?”  David's curiosity was stirred.

“Singing with you and that little band you like so much,”  she answered while laughing, seeing his shocked look.

“Singing?  Mom, can you sing?” David asked.

“Believe it or not, but, I do think that you inherited your singing voice and haminess from my genes!”

“Are you joking?  You really sing?  Well, I know you can sing, but I mean, really get down and sing?  You know the type of music the band plays.  It's really old, old style, a mixed cross between Mister Big, Journey, all great rock and roller old styles.  It's sweet and tender then it changes to get down and dirty.  Are you sure?  And
Mom
, what do you mean my haminess?”  The smirk on his face made her laugh all the louder.

“You know what haminess means!  Anyway, try me?  Just try me!  Please David?  I've been practicing secretly for over four months with a voice coach that has trained many of today's best popular singers.”

This lady whom he called Mother was just full of surprises.

“All right!  Let's see what you can do.”  He told her to meet him at four that evening in the music room.  Melody was so excited she could barely stop herself from kissing him again and again.

THE  PREPARATIONS

The next morning Melody was like a different person, she had her bubbliness restored to her.  She was standing naked and busily picking out her outfit for the day when Jonathan came up behind her, nuzzling her neck as he wrapped his strong arms around her middle.

“Mel, don't ever cut your hair.  I love to see it hang down teasing your sweet backside as you walk.  It stimulates my eyes just to watch you move.  It's sooo sexy,” he breathed hotly into her ear.

Melody simply smiled and said, “That’s so sweet, Jon.  Thanks for the compliment!”

“How about a little morning refreshment?  I have anything that you might want right here, on me right now.  Why don't you turn around and see if anything looks appetizing to you?” he murmured seductively.

“Oh, I know you do, but this morning I have a busy schedule.”  She turned around and saw his deep blue eyes getting darker.  “Jon, I would love to get a rain check on that offer though.”

His eyes immediately became sky blue again.  “What's so urgent that you don't have a little time for me?  Whatever it is, I'm definitely jealous of it!” Jon said looking defeated.

“Sweetheart . . . it's going to be a surprise!  In a few days I'll tell you all about it.”

She finished dressing then said, “Jon . . . Beth and I are going shopping tomorrow.  I want to get a few new outfits.  Is there anything you want me to pick up for you?”

Jonathan looked thoughtful for a moment, then shook his head.

“So, you have a little mystery blooming, huh?  Well . . . I might have a surprise for you as well, in a few days!” Jonathan stated with a mischievous grin.

They went about their merry ways each getting more and more excited about the surprise that they were planning for each other.

“Jonathan, let's have a party,” Melody suddenly suggested that night.  The entire family was having their supper together in the large dining room as was their custom.

“A party sounds perfect to me.  Would Friday night be adequate for you?” Jonathan replied with his eyes twinkling.

She noticed he had winked at Mark.
Now what could he be up too,
she wondered with surprise.  It wasn’t like Jonathan to do anything that she couldn’t figure out, until now.

“Mary, how about you going with Beth and me to help us pick out our new outfits for Friday night?” Melody suggested when she found her friend at her drafting table, working on a new wedding dress design.

Mary looked between her board with the rough draft drawing and back at her dear friends grinning face.

Her daughter, Beth added, “Oh, come on Mom!  We don’t get out just us girls but once a year it seems.  I took a day off from the medical labs, now you take a day off from your designs.  Please.”

Mary didn’t need much prodding.  She could tell by the mischievous grin the two ladies had that they had something planned, and it would be fun.  “
Oka
y, but you have to promise me at least one belly laugh per hour.”

“Done!” both Melody and Beth agreed together.

As the ladies were driven to town while sitting in the black limo Mary asked, “If you wanted new outfits, why didn’t you let me design them?”

Melody was afraid she’d hurt her friend’s feelings.  “Oh, Mary, I didn’t know I’d need a new outfit until Jon agreed we could have the party.  No way would you have time to get it ready by Friday.  I want you to relax and enjoy.  Besides, I’m planning to dress a lot different for the party than any things you’ve ever seem me wear.”

Mary looked concerned.  “Now, Mel, don’t you go and do anything to make Jonathan angry.  Life’s been getting better and better here lately, so don’t poke at him by being too rowdy in your outfit, you know they don’t like that. In public.”

Rolling her eyes heavenward Melody said, “Not rowdy Mary, but more
Hollywood
.  You know, I want to wear sexy boots and belts and stuff like that.”

Beth burst out laughing while watching her mom and her mother-in-law give each other weird looks.  And here she was looking older than both of the two other women.   Life was fantastic!

Mary looked at Beth like she was crazed.  “What’s the joke, young lady?”

Elizabeth
answered her mother while still laughing, “You two.  You still look like teenagers, about to buy thongs or something naughty.  And here I am looking like your older sister!  If Mel wants to get rowdy, I say turn her loose.  Jonathan will be the better judge if she goes overboard.”

Melody looked contrite. “Beth, sweetie, really, I don’t want to go ‘bikini beach’ on anyone.  I just want a more upbeat outfit, you know for the stage performance.  I don’t want to walk out on stage wearing my usual house  dresses.  I need you both to help me pick it out.”

Mary looked at Beth and said, “You too lady!  You need to get a stage outfit as well.  You both can show our men that we’re made of strong stuff!  Make it sexy, but not showing too much.  Your dad and David both would have a conniption fit it’s too skin revealing.”

“Mom, you’re so cute when you’re being such a prude!”
Elizabeth
stated with a giggle.

“I’m not being prudish, just sensible.”

“Yes, ma’m,” Beth answered, but kept her grin in place.

Melody nudged Beth with her toe, “Why you hussy you!  Remember your beauty will be all the more enjoyed when our visitors hear you playing.”

Turning to Mary Melody said, “Our girl is one talented lady!  I’m so proud that she’s my David’s wife.”

As the three women strolled through the mall they soon had a following, at a distance, of several good looking men, though the ladies were oblivious.

After leaving an upscale shoe store where Melody and
Elizabeth
bought their boots, they headed for the pretzel stand.

“You want to try my dip?” Mary offered both ladies.  “It’s yum, yum.”

“Naw, I like my pretzel lightly salted and washed down with a cola,” Melody answered while moaning with joy at another bite.

Beth was too busy chewing her cheese dipped one to answer anyone.   All were enjoying their treat.

Next the women went in search for skirts and tops.  Belts came next.

“Well, I like what I got,” Melody boasted to her friends.

“Me too,” echoed
Elizabeth
, followed by a giggling Mary.

Looking at her red faced friend Melody teased, “Bet you wouldn’t have designed any of the outfits we bought, now would you?”

“Nope!  I design for upscale, proper ladies,” Mary answered with her nose up in the air and looking very proper.  That is before she burst out giggling again.  “Mark’s gonna love it!”

“Yep!  Dad will love it Mom.  He’ll think it was Mel or me who tarnished you into buying such a starlet type dress.  But it doesn’t show any cleavage and it is below the knee, so that’s two of the criteria’s.  You can’t help filling it out so well in all the right places now can you?”

“Well, David will definitely love your outfit too Beth,” Melody stated as she sipped on her glass of red wine as they waited on their seafood to be brought to the table.

Staring out the windows of the circular high-rise restaurant they were sitting at showed a panoramic view of the entire downtown area of
Jacksonville

Mary leaned by in her seat and  heaved a relaxed sigh.  “Mel, remember when we were girls and we always wanted to eat here but couldn’t afford it?”

“Yes, I do remember.  It certainly is a beautiful view, with the
St. Johns River
flowing swiftly by down below and all of downtown seen from here,”

Elizabeth
sighed too.  “Although I’ve traveled all over the world, for short periods each time though, I always love coming back home.  I love the beach.  The
Atlantic Ocean
is my favorite.  It’s dark and yet turns turquoise just north of
Miami
where the
Gulf Stream
comes in.  Beautiful.  David said that nothing on H’trae is a beautiful as our Earth.  He’s seen satellite views of H’trae many times and says that although it is a beautiful planet, with it’s blue-green and pink mountains and several crystal seas, the three moons and white cities that shimmer in the atmosphere there, it’s not home.”

The servers soon came bearing large platters filled with their food.  After Mary, being the oldest, said Grace, they began to enjoy the delicious Alaskan crab legs, giant sea scallops, lobster tails and shrimp scampi.  They also ate a small salad, green beans almondine and delish tiny cheddar-cheese and garlic butter biscuits.

“Wow!  I haven’t eaten that big a meal since last ChristMas!” Mary exclaimed with a rather satisfied yet guilty smile on her face.

Melody grinned at her friends.  “Oh me neither!  Guess we’ll have to pass up fish for a
mont
h, due to Mercury levels and all.”

Elizabeth
surprised them both when she announced, “Actually, we’ve been receiving a supplement in our daily vitamins that removes dangerous Mercury levels from our systems.  We’ve been protected for the past four months.”

Her mom and Melody looked stunned.  “It was in the memo I sent out via e-mail, the week before it was implemented.”  Looking worried she asked, “You don’t object, do you?”

Melody realized her expression may have set Beth to worry.  “Are you kidding?  I couldn’t be more thrilled.  That means I can return more seafood to our menus.  Beth, you’re fantastic!”

“Well, David suggested it as a lab project, knowing how much we all love the stuff, but also knowing it was dangerous.  We don’t want any future children harmed due to our inadvertent Mercury intake.  Their brains are far too precious to take risks.  So, I worked on it and found a solution that was rather simple actually.”

“How?” Mary asked.

Melody smiled and reached over and pat her dear friends hand.  “Are you sure you want to hear the lengthy medical explanation?”

Elizabeth
laughed aloud.  She knew why Mel said that.  The last time she had tried to explain a technical procedure to her mom, Mary nearly fell asleep from feinting strained attention.

Melody leaned over and kissed
Elizabeth
’s cheek as she rubbed her back.  “Always so brilliant - and sweetly tolerant of us normal, sub-H’traeians.  I love you girl!”

With a laugh they left the restaurant and headed for the car.  “Where did that driver go?” Melody asked as the women searched through the slow moving traffic for the black auto.

Soon the car managed to get to the three women standing on the sidewalk.    When David jumped out to open their doors for them, they were surprised.

“So, checking up on your wayward wife, huh?  Just couldn’t stand me not being at you beck and call?”
Elizabeth
teased as David climbed behind the wheel.
