A Soldier' Womans (3 page)

“That would be nice.” Tears fell, rivers of pain flowing down the hills and valleys of her face. “He’s leaving, and I don’t even know how to tell him I love him.”

“I’ll come over tonight and we’ll take a long walk and have a good cry. Maybe we could mute a few b-movies and do the dialogue for them to get us laughing.”

Janelle sniffed.

“You could always come with me to get a tattoo.”

They laughed, and Janelle wiped her eyes.

“Maybe next time.”

Not for the first time in her life, she felt grateful for Debbie. Her friend, though far edgier than she, was like a sister. They’d been friends since kindergarten and would continue to be until the day they died. She would understand and listen when Janelle talked about Ron and her love for him. She would make the separation bearable.

Janelle tossed her panties on the bedroom floor with the pile of clothing they’d been slowly building over the last two hours as they kissed and touched every inch of each other. She wanted to put her all into this one because it would be the last for a long while.
This one
would carry them through the long, lonely nights to come.

Naked now, she grabbed Ron’s hair, bringing his mouth to hers. She kissed him deeply, her lips locked in battle with his—a battle for satisfaction, both in the giving and the taking. He flipped her onto her back and hovered over her, his naked need obvious. Instead of entering her, he traced his fingernails along her arm and over her breast. The pleasure and slight pain of the sharp edges made her squirm. His nails continued over her ribcage, and his mouth followed. He bit down on the sensitive skin of her breasts and waist. She gasped, grabbing at him, fighting the need to flip him over and climb atop him.

He drew his nails up her inner thigh, and she wriggled beneath the intense sensation. Then he sat back on his heels, jerking his head to the side. “On your hands and knees.”

She flipped over, excited by the order. Thighs pressing together, she leaned back into him. He slapped one cheek, and she threw back her head. His mouth and teeth followed his hand, nipping at the stinging flesh, working their way over her back.

She spread her legs when his hand moved between them to guide his cock inside her.

“Your pussy is so wet, baby.”

His rock hard shaft entered her and she leaned back to once again give his mouth access to her bare skin. He bit at her neck, back, and shoulders. He lifted her leg, angling her so that her pussy would accommodate more of him, and she let out a squeal of pleasure as his cock grazed her g-spot.

“Ooh. You like that, don’t you?”

“Yes.” She squealed again when the head pressed against the sensitive spot again. “Oh yes.”

He lifted her leg higher and pumped faster, building her pleasure. He reached beneath her, pinching and rubbing at her sensitive clit, and bliss spilled over her in an orgasmic wave.

Still inside her, he turned her so she lay on her side with her leg stretched between his spread knees and her other leg held high.

He slowed his movements. “Touch yourself for me. I want to watch you.”

She reached between her legs, swirling her fingers over the swollen flesh.

“Yeah. Damn, you’re beautiful.” He lifted her leg higher to watch her fingers move, then his gaze met hers. There was something so sensual about knowing her actions were turning him on. That watching her touch herself gave him pleasure.

“Faster now. Harder,” she ordered, nearing climax again. She grabbed his hip with her free hand and pulled him to her.

“Oh yeah, that’s my tiger.” He slammed into her, his body rocketing in and out while her fingers continued to move.

Together they came, shaking and moaning as her fingers finally slowed to a stop. Afterward, he collapsed beside her onto the bed. He kissed her, his lips barely brushing hers. She let out a long breath, her body calming from the aggressive lovemaking session.

He would come back for her. He just had to. She didn’t know what she would do without him if he didn’t. She wasn’t so naïve that she still thought he didn’t like her. It seemed obvious now in a way it hadn’t during their first time. He really liked her.

And she loved him. Flat out, no holds barred, love. But she hadn’t found a way to tell him yet. Even during the countless make-out sessions, long walks, and even longer talks she hadn’t been that gutsy. Even with the physical demands she’d made on him today, spending the whole day in bed in every position either of them could dream up, she hadn’t been able to say the words.

“I have to get ready.” He sighed and pressed a hand to his forehead.

He rolled slowly from the bed while she lay on the muss of blankets and covers, trying to ignore the burning in her eyes. What would she do in the months she wouldn’t see him? She wouldn’t even be able to write him right away.

She sat up, biting her lip as she watched him dress. She sat on the edge of the bed and started to put her clothes on as well. She swallowed, trying to loosen the collar on her suddenly too-small turtleneck.

She glanced around the room, trying to think of something to say that would fit the moment. Nothing came to her mind as he grabbed his duffle and turned to face her.

“You ready to go?” He asked, meeting her gaze then instantly looking away.

“I don’t think I’ll ever be ready.”

She felt the tears well, and wished fervently for one more day, though she knew she wouldn’t get it. They’d had their time, and now it was over. She’d have to wait for his return, which seemed an eternity away.

They stepped out the door together. Holding hands, they walked single file down the hall. His brother’s truck waited in the driveway, engine running.

He dropped the green duffle to the ground. The thump reverberated through her bones.

“I’m going to miss you so much.” She’d said this very thing more times than she could recall over the past week, but she couldn’t help but repeat it now.

He stepped into her and placed his hand on her waist.

“I won’t be gone long. You’ll see. I’ll be back before you know it.”

He took her hand in his, lifted it to his lips, and kissed her fingers.

“I love you, you know.” He met her eyes, and the tears she’d been fighting spilled.

He loved her. They loved each other. She stood on tiptoe and kissed him softly.

“I love you too. More than I realized I could.”

He grasped her forearms and pulled her to his chest. “You better write me every day.”

“You don’t even have to ask, you know.” She held on to his arms.

“Don’t you dare find anyone else,” he said, his eyes glassy. He pushed her hair off her shoulder, smoothing it down her back. “I’m coming back for you. I’m gonna marry you.”

Her heart leapt. “You’d better.”

She stood on her toes and kissed him, putting every tear to be shed, every moment of impending separation, and every speck of her being into that kiss. She lived in it, died in it, and when at last she drew back, he pressed his cheek to her hair for a moment, then released her and turned toward the waiting car.

She watched them drive off, dashing a tear from her cheek. He really loved her… He
would
come back for her, and when he did, she would make him forget they’d ever been separated.
