Two Queens (Seven Heavens Book 1) (36 page)

Adara jumped up and grabbed Orion's hand. “Come on! You know I actually had forgotten,” and with a last look at Avallonë's Queen, Orion followed his sister out of the room, cousin just behind.

He ran with them, laughing, their excitement contagious. Up stairs and down stairs, in rooms and out. He thought they may have gotten lost once or twice. Who cared? One of the girls would race on again and he would follow.

“Kerry! And your foal!”

Acknowledgments

It takes a village to raise a child, they say. I was raised in two. Three if you count the collected geography no airline can fly you to. All those villages and many of their residents have had their influence on me and, in turn, my book. Thank you.

A special thanks to those who directly helped with the writing and creation of this book. To Tiffany Holden, sister and first reader, for her gifts of insight and grace. The map included in this book is by her hand. To my friends, who took the idea seriously, encouraged me through the process, and read the rough copy. And to Carlo Skolrud, illustrator extraordinaire, who caught the vision and pushed the cover beyond what I thought possible.

Mom, thank you for being you. Can't wait to see your crown.

And most of all, thank you to the one who gave me the vision for the novel and the passion to stick to it. To Jesus, my hero.
