Chapter 8: Confessions and Declarations
“Damn, you feel good…” Joey said as he was kissing Karlie on the neck. It was the morning of their last detention day, and he decided to pay her a visit. He actually was just supposed to give her some pancakes that he made for breakfast and ask her if she wants to go to school with him, but as they were talking in the kitchen, they just couldn’t help but kiss and have their hands all over each other. Soon enough, they made their way to her bedroom for a little tete-a-tete before going to class.
“Yeah?” She asked breathlessly. She was sweating, and he was, too, but she really didn’t care. He was now kissing her on the abdomen, teasing her by playing with her panties.
“Hey…” She said, “We have class.”
“I know.” He said with a grin on his face, and she couldn’t help but laugh as he went up and kissed her on the lips. “You taste like strawberries.”
“I know,” Karlie said.
Joey then took a deep breath and laid down beside her in bed. “Can’t believe I’m here in your room with you.”
“Not that you’ve never been here before.” She teased as she fixed herself to prop up in bed beside him. She started to play with his hair. “Remember when we were kids, and we would play hide and seek just in this room?”
He laughed. “How could I forget?” He asked. “You’ve really grown up. I like this person that you’ve become.”
“You too.” She said. “And…I don’t even know what we have!” She laughed.
“Do we actually have to label it?” He asked. “I mean, we’re good this way.”
“You don’t get jealous of Colin?”
He laughed and took a deep breath before answering. “Of course, I do.” He said. “Who wouldn’t? But then again, I can see how he makes you happy, too. And I guess, that’s all I want. I want you to be happy. I want you to grow up to be the person you want to be.”
“You’re making it sound like I’m a mess or something.”
“We all are, Karlie.” He said. “I mean, to be honest, I thought about asking you to be my girlfriend, but I don’t know how that would fare to you. And, I know you like Colin, you really do.”
“That’s right. But I also like you.”
“See?”
She laughed. “Yeah, well, you have a point.” She sighed. “And today’s the last day of detention.”
“It doesn’t have to be the last day of whatever this is that we have. We’re still hanging out at the house tonight, you know.”
“Right…” She muttered and took a deep breath. “Joey,” she said, looking him in the eyes, “Thank you. I mean…for everything.” She said. “This past week has been like, the greatest week of my life.”
“It only gets better from here, you’ll see.”
And with every seed of hope in her heart, she hoped he was right.
Chapter 9: We’ll Always Have New York
Mr. Kessler proved to be good during their last detention session. In fact, he even put up a feast for the kids, and they got to eat some pasta, chips, and ice cream. There was sparkling cider, too.
“It’s the last detention of the year and your last time in detention, too—unless you plan to go back to High School next year.” He said, and the kids cracked up.
Maybe, Karlie thought, people really had something good inside them but they just don’t show it often. She, Joey, and Colin later rode Colin’s car to go to Joey’s house, and Karlie and Colin just couldn’t stop kissing at the back of the car. They were laughing and kissing and just couldn’t stop touching each other. In fact, the straps of Karlie’s dress were already down her shoulders.
“Easy, people,” Joey said as he parked the car in the parking lot. He was the designated driver, and he helped Colin and Karlie get out of the car. Karlie felt intoxicated by the fact that this was probably the last day she’d spend with her boys, and she just wanted to savor every moment.
Karlie held Joey’s hand as he helped her out of the car, and ended up kissing him. “Damn, you guys are good.” She said. “I’m gonna miss you so much.”
“Ssh,” Colin said as he held her by the waist and gave her a kiss on the lips. “We would miss you a lot.”
Just then, a loud roar of thunder butted in, and rain poured down from the skies, drenching every bit of their skin.
“Oh my god,” Karlie laughed.
“Come on,” Joey said as they went inside the apartment building and made their way to Joey’s room. He had been living away from his parents since he was 16.
As soon as they entered the room, the gravity of their borrowed time fell upon them, and they didn’t want to waste any more time. Joey locked the door, and Colin and Karlie sat down on the couch. Joey knelt down in front of Karlie and gave her a knowing look. Karlie nodded, so Joey reached for her panties and pulled them down. He then went on to kiss her down there and play with her folds. Karlie couldn’t help but moan—and it didn’t help that Colin was kissing her, too.
They went on kissing and touching one another and soon, they went to Joey’s bedroom. Karlie undressed each of them, and held and kissed each of their crotches as they undressed her and laid her down on the bed. They played with her by kissing her on the breasts and playing with her folds, and soon, the three of them joined together as one, Karlie sandwiched in the middle, happy in their own bubble.
The night was long, and they sure made the most out of it.
***
As the first rays of sunlight entered the room, Karlie woke up between the two most important men in her life. Seeing them asleep next to her, she felt like she couldn’t be any luckier. But this day only reminded her that their days are numbered, and she also had her future to think of.
She was actually tempted to just go with Colin on his cruise, or check out LA with Joey, but then again…she knew that she couldn’t always rely on them, especially in her future. She loved them, yes, and they would always have one another, but she also had to make decisions for herself.
And that moment, she knew what she needed to know and what she wanted to do—at least for the moment.
She then noticed Colin stirring in his sleep.
“Good morning,” She greeted as she kissed him on the lips. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled as he saw her.
“Hey,” He said, also giving her a kiss.
“Hey, lovebirds.” Joey woke up at that moment, too.
“Oh come on, Joey.” Karlie quipped and kissed him on the lips.
“That’s our girl.” He said, and they laughed.
“Both of you guys were amazing,” Karlie said and sighed. “I wish this just wouldn’t end.”
“Well, it’s really not over,” Colin said. “I mean, this isn’t like the end of whatever we have, right? And, besides…” He went on, “Why don’t you guys just come with me to the cruise? It would be fun. I’m thinking, we could go to Asia and really try authentic Asian food and all—”
“Sorry, man,” Joey said, “My sights are set on LA. Maybe you guys could go? There are all those celebrities there, me included—”
Karlie pushed him lightly on the shoulder. “Quit it.” She laughed, “Actually…I have something to say to you guys.”
“What is it?” Colin asked.
“Well…you know how I love you both, right?”
“Yeah…” Joey said.
Karlie went on. “Well…I love you both, and I wish I could be with you guys, whether in LA or on that cruise but…I thought about what you said about me finding myself and finding my place in the world and all that, and I realized that I do have to do that. I do have my own life.” She smiled and then, “I’m leaving. I mean, I’m going to London…Just so you know, to see where life takes me and all that.”
“I’m proud of you,” Colin said, squeezing her hand.
“I am, too.” Joey smiled and kissed her on the forehead. “So…” He said. “This is it, then?”
“I guess,” Karlie said. “But, well, there are summers and vacations and holidays waiting for us. And besides,” She said with a smile on her face, “We’ll always have New York.”
And it’s true: no matter where they might be in the world, they would always, always, have New York.
And they wouldn’t have it any other way.
The End
Remember: relationships don’t always have to look the same way. What matters is how true they are, and how honest the people in them are.
