She gasped as Sabel’s hand continued below the line of her belt. Her hand clutched white-knuckled at the couch cushion. She wanted to grab Sabel and kiss her so hard that she couldn’t breathe, but what happened if Abraxas chose that moment to return?
“Then you held my hands down and told me not to move them and you…” Sabel stopped and shook her head.
Ana could see how quick her breath was by the rapid rise and fall of her chest. She didn’t dare move for fear that if she did she wouldn’t be able to stop herself.
“Did I take off the non-date panties?” she asked.
“Pushed them to one side.”
Dizziness spiraled up Ana’s body, traveling around the inside of her legs to gather in her belly.
“I wish I could just show you the memory,” Sabel said.
“I
want
you to show me,” Ana replied with such fervor that Sabel laughed and kissed the side of her face.
Ana held her tightly, careful of her broken fingers and aware of all the ways she could still accidentally hurt her. After a while, Sabel pulled away just far enough to face Ana again.
“There should be a way to get those memories back,” she said. “Drake couldn’t really destroy the memory itself, only your ability to retrieve it. If I knew where it was in your consciousness…but I don’t know how to access that. Probably Abraxas does.”
“I don’t particularly want him to find those memories,” Ana said. “It’s bad enough that I got to ride along with him having sex with Lily.”
“You what?”
“He pulled her into a dream so they could get it on and I ended up inside his dream body the way he is inside my physical body,” Ana explained.
Then she remembered the other time Abraxas and Lily had sex and that she had let him borrow her body for it, which technically meant that she’d had sex with Lily, or did it? Did it count as having sex with someone if you weren’t in your body when it happened? It did count if you were too drunk to remember it, but that wasn’t the same as willingly stepping out of your body for someone else. It was so complicated. Was that something she should tell Sabel or not?
Sabel’s eyes, distant with thought, were the blue of a deep summer sky. “How long do you plan to keep him?” Sabel asked.
“Until he’s strong enough to be on his own, I guess,” Ana said. “Once the witches take that energy thing off you, it won’t be a problem though, right?”
“They won’t like it. Not that they have a say on my dating life.”
“Does that mean you’re asking me out? Or did I already ask you out and I just don’t remember?”
“Formally? You haven’t.”
“Oh, well then, even though I’m hosting an ancient demon and you’re from a group of demon-hating witches, do you want to, like, go out?”
“Yes,” Sabel said. She leaned forward and kissed Ana.
Ana put her hand up between them to remind herself not to do any of the things she most wanted to and then let herself forget about everything but Sabel’s lips and tongue.
When she felt Abraxas returning from the backyard, she pushed lightly and Sabel broke away from her. They were both breathing hard and Sabel’s eyes shone in the low light of the room.
“I wish you could ask the witches to let you spend the night tonight,” Ana said.
Sabel laughed. “They’ll say: Be patient, it’s only a matter of time.”
