Sir Maxwell Throgmorton, a disgraced High Court judge, hires Broderick Ladro, and his partner Ulla Stuart to locate a long lost medieval painting by Spanish artist Francisco Cortez, depicting the raising of Lazarus and like Zevi’s painting, rumoured to possess miraculous powers.
Throgmorton’s client is a wealthy Spanish Condesa (Countess), who is terminally ill, and prepared to pay and do whatever is necessary to find the work… Can its healing powers restore her to full health like she believes?
Unbeknown to the Condesa, Throgmorton seeks to make a vast personal fortune from the discovery of the paintings, and is prepared to murder anybody who stands in his way.
When Ladro and Stuart learn of Throgmorton’s deceit, they begin a battle to stop his plans, and as Ladro discovers the Lazarus secret, a shocking revelation is unveiled.

cott Anderson is terminally ill, and is not expected to live much longer. As an ex-RAF officer from World War Two, operating in Bomber Command, he has come to realise that once he is dead, there will be no one to pass on what he knows about his life; what he did with it, and the lives of his ancestors. He wants his adult children to know about his history so they, in turn, can pass it onto their children. It's important, he thinks, to know where you come from, your roots and your heritage. He begins to dictate his story to his son Hugh.
It's an extensive and highly surprising account of Anderson's wartime experiences and his early life. He also reveals the whereabouts of a large, locked wooden chest, which is only to be opened once he has died. Inside, he says, they will find part of their inheritance. In fact, what Anderson's children find in the box will ensure that their lives will never be the same again.
There was, it seems, a darker reason for his deathbed revelation, and the box contains a shocking legacy that will impact deeply on all their lives and, in doing so, will take them around the world.

Ken Fry
has travelled extensively around the world. He attempts to share the places he’d seen, and his experiences, in the pages of his novels. He has held a lot of jobs, ranging from a gravedigger to a publisher in a prestigious Anglo-American corporation. He had his own publishing business before deciding to follow his first loves and interests - writing and reading.
He now lives alone in the UK, and shares his home with ‘Dickens’, his Shetland Sheepdog.
He holds a university Master’s degree in Literature.
