“You have your hands full with those two,” he said.

“You can say that again. But we’ll manage. Right, Chris?”

“Exactly. Anyway, at least we won’t die of boredom.”

“Have you been married long?”

“No. Just five days, to be precise.”

“Look…” Terence searched for words. “When you called me on the radio, at first I thought you were joking. It made no sense that two crazy motorcyclists were going to zero in on us, or that we should let them in if they did. And they were two women, to boot! At first, I wasn’t sure if you’d been pulling my leg, but the blood on your wife’s knife convinced me otherwise. They do the same work we used to do, am I right?”

“Exactly. They just do it a little more crazily.” Chris sighed.

“I believe you about the crazy part. When they started listing how many men they’d thrown to the wolves, I thought my boys might crap their pants. Were the two joking? They had to have been exaggerating, right?”

“They weren’t. They said it like it was a joke, but it’s definitely not. They even left out two,” Gray said.

“You mean the two that got shot in the head?” Chris asked.

“Exactly.”

Terence stared openmouthed at his friend, who nodded.

“Wow! And you’re in charge of their assignments? It must take a lot out of you to see the kind of danger they face and not be able to do anything about it.”

Chris grew pale, remembering the parachute incident. Gray nudged him with his elbow, encouragingly. Chris just nodded and smiled a little.

“How would you two feel about retreating to my quarters for some coffee and telling me the story of how you married these unusual women? As angry as they were, they could use the time to calm down.” A sly smile appeared on Terence’s face. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they were angry with you for weeks.”

Weeks? Hardly! Liz could yell at him all she wanted. Gray was determined, however, not to let her crabbiness last for an extended period of time. Hours, okay. Maybe even one or two days. But definitely not weeks.
Never
weeks…
