has traveled widely in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He graduated from high school in Egypt and completed college in Ghana. Several years after college he managed a bar on Spain’s Costa del Sol during the summers and ran a photo-safari service from London through Morocco and Algeria to the Spanish Sahara during the off-season. He has worked on the oil rigs in Kuwait and driven overland from Bulgaria to Afghanistan. He played guitar in a band for several years before starting work as a manager in local government. After working more than twenty years for the city of Oakland, California, he has recently taken a medical retirement.
He has been writing poetry and prose since he was eighteen years old. His first collection of poetry was published in 1982 in a book entitled
In the Wild Shadows
. He has also been included in the anthology of black male poets called
My Brother’s Keeper
. His poetry has been published in Essence magazine and in various poetry quarterlies. It is his desire to follow in the literary footsteps of his mother, Dr. Maya Angelou.
