ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

It takes a writer’s village for me to get a new book out into the world, and I love thanking everyone who so generously gives of their time and superior smarts in helping me. They’re there for me, no matter how busy they are in their own lives, and I’m so incredibly grateful. These people are AMAZING. Neither
Snow Angel
nor any of my other work would have seen the light of day without their direct influence.

In no particular order:

Jami Davenport, for convincing me to write a series. We’ve batted around a lot of ideas over the past year +, and I swore over and over that my brain just didn’t “think” in series, but when
Snow Angel
barged in the door, insisted I stop what I was working on to write it, and oh, by the way, informed me it was the beginning of a looong series, I knew lurking just behind the book’s beginnings stood Jami, grinning and saying, “I told you so.”

Laurie Temple. Where to begin? She is THE WOMAN when it comes to editing. She’s able to step back from a story and really grasp the big picture, then drill down to the fine details. She finds the character inconsistencies, the plot holes, the arcs that aren’t working, and she does it all kindly and with a smile on her face. Not to mention she’s very speedy, which is great for me, since I’m always running behind schedule.

Lydia M. Sheridan, for being the sole reason
Snow Angel
got done when it did. You, quite simply, ROCK.

Lori Lyn, Joan Satterlee, Lydia (again!), and Missy Blanchard, for being a shoulder to cry on when I need one, an ass kicker when I need that, and a friend all the time.

Joan Satterlee, again, for sharing her takeaways from a recent plot class and saying the magic thing that tripped the bell in my head and solidified the ultimate source of Melinda and Jacob’s conflict, making
Snow Angel
SO much stronger.

Anthea Lawson, for being the master of everything—business, craft, tech, whatever it is, she knows it! And miraculously, she shares it generously and repeatedly. For being an amazing friend and critique partner, even when she’s so insanely busy she barely has time to blink, much less take a breath.

Lavada Dee, for the gift of her time and a final, super-speedy beta/edit after I made all the changes recommended by Laurie and Anthea, and for finding the most amazing details to tweak, all of which made the manuscript stronger, better, and cleaner.

My college-girl, for being my first reader, and for loving the story and the characters, for being my cheerleader as I was writing, even when that meant spending so much time working while she was home for the summer from school. For snuggles and movie nights. For kicking around story ideas and giving me an honest critique. I love you, sweetie pea.

My oldest, for being the grownup. For keeping the family going, for bringing me endless bottles of Pepsi, for helping to give me a fresh perspective, and for geeking out with me on a regular basis. For giving me a final beta and strengthening the end of the book. For buying my books with her own money and reading them, even the sexy ones I said she couldn’t read, and for trying to leave me sweet reviews, even though Amazon won’t let her. I love you, kitten nose.

My baby boy, for talking writing craft and story with me, for sharing his own thoughts on that craft, for getting the whole creative process. For his amazing art, for helping me figure out the fine details on book cover creation, for always being supportive even though his mom writes “that sexy stuff.” For making me laugh, holding my hand, amazing hugs, and warm snuggles. I love you, Smiley Guy.

Last but definitely not least, my guy, my hubby, who loves and supports me every day, even when I spend every second of it inside a story instead of taking care of things around the house, who cooks and cleans and organizes even after a long day/week/lifetime at his “real” job, who still calls me beautiful and almost makes me believe it. I love you, Wolfie.

One final note: absolutely any errors still in the book are new ones I must have introduced after the above edits and feedback, which were flawless, and the blame for them rests solely on my shoulders. My team rocks!

I love you all, always,

Chantilly

AUTHOR’S NOTE

During the spring of 2014, I was busily writing a paranormal romance novella called
Remember Me
, which has been listed on my website as “Coming Soon!” for over a year. At least. I LOVE that story. I really do. And I intend to finish and publish it before the end of the year (still 2014—it may not be a great idea to put this in print in case something happens again, but…) As I was writing, as often happens with me, this new idea landed
BA-BLAM!
in my brain and simply refused to go wait quietly in its story-idea corner.

So I caved.

Yes, I gave in, thinking
Snow Angel
would be a 6,000-word short story, not too long or too much trouble to pound out, then I could get right back to
Remember Me
and continue on as though the little interruption had never happened.

Uh-huh.

One-hundred-twenty-eight-thousand words later…

Snow Angel
turned out to be the longest book I have ever written. It’s also the beginning of a whole new series,
High Desert Hearts
, and I’m so excited to keep writing in this world! I fell in love with these characters. I hope you did, too.

Eddie’s story is next, and I can’t wait to dive into it. I adore Eddie. Adore. But… Poor guy, he’s in for some trouble. Of the female persuasion.

But first, I swear I’m going to finish
Remember Me
no matter what. I also have a collection of stories from my college days to get out, but they are NOT romance! Not, not, not. They’re more literary, dark and gritty, social issues, all that sort of thing. Do not pick them up if you’re looking for more romance. You will be disappointed, and probably angry, and you’ll want to leave me all sorts of nasty reviews for putting you through those angst-filled, non-romance stories. Please don’t do that! Wait for
Remember Me
and Eddie’s story instead. We’ll all be happier.

Eddie’s story,
Desert Damsel
, will be out in Spring ~ 2015. Be sure to join my
