Sinful Magic (41 page)

I didn’t want to leave! I fought, and then Dyfyr caught my spirit and

She leaned her head back, looking into his face. “I saw our daughter’s spirit. She is perfect.” Then she felt a wave of panic. “Did she come back? Where—”

“Peace, witch, she is within you now, safe and secure.”

The voice rolled through her, shivered her chakras, and commanded her attention. Roxy turned and saw the golden brilliance of a god. “Wing Slayer.” She scrambled off Key’s lap, digging her knees into the grass. “I felt you, felt the electric touch of your god power bring us back to my body.” She bowed her head, humbled that Kieran’s god had done that. “Thank you.”

Key shifted to kneel by her side. “My thanks, too.” When he first arrived, his wings were dark bronze and his eyes flickered with red. Now he’s glowing gold.

Roxy reached out and clutched Kieran’s hand. Angry at us?

“I can hear you,” the god thundered.

Roxy fought to keep her balance as the ground shook. “Sorry.”

“I was not angry at you. You two fought with true hearts. Asmodeus is the one who brings out my anger. He tried to get that Tear to kill me and gain control of Earth.”

Roxy cringed as his anger crashed over them.

“Roxy.”

Her name from the god surprised her into looking up.

“You nearly lost your life to safeguard that Tear. I am not just Kieran’s god, but I am yours.” He was suddenly in front of her. “At the last moment, as you were dying, you forced open your chakras just enough for Dyfyr to use his dragon magic and take back the Tear. Only the chain remains.” He reached out and touched the silver chain. “Wear the wings of your dragon over your heart.”

A warm twang slid around her neck and pooled at the curve of her left breast. She looked down. The dress was no longer torn—either the witches or the god had repaired it. In the gap of the material, where the Tear once marked her, there was a pair of silver dragon wings embedded into her skin.

You wear my wings, marking you as our treasure, Kieran whispered in her mind.

How do you thank a god for something so precious? “I am honored.”

Wing Slayer said, “Kieran DeMicca, you have the heart and soul of a dragon. You have stood against evil all of your life. But it was your love for Roxy and your child that allowed Dyfyr and me to save them.”

“I am grateful.”

“Hunter, your knife.”

Key handed the blade to the god.

“Lift your joined hands.” Wing Slayer then looked at Roxy. “Roxanne, your Ancestors are here.”

She raised her head, her green eyes softening. “I see them. I wondered

the other witches have seen them, but I never did. They look like radiant stars gleaming in the night.” Like her mother had when she left Roxy.

She was able to project their beauty to him as Key raised their joined hands.

Wing Slayer smiled. “They were always there, Roxanne. But you gravitated to Dyfyr. And the dragon will tell you that he is so beautiful, you could see nothing but him. Dragons are singularly vain creatures, but when they love, they love for eternity.”

Then he turned to Key. “You and Dyfyr will never be without your witch again.”

Key saw the blur of his silver knife and looked down to see the twin rings appear around the base of their thumbs. “Immortality.”

Wing Slayer wrapped his large hand around theirs. “As true soul mirrors, may the two of you reflect the faith, courage, honor, strength, and cunning to fight the curse and protect the innocent. We give you the gift of time to aid you.”

With their minds joined, the touch of the god seared through them right down to their cells. Roxy felt them being redrawn, reshaped, a stronger life force emerging. Her long hair blew back behind her from the force, but Kieran’s thoughts stayed firmly linked with hers as the internal shifting crested, and then it was done.

Key said reverently, “Thank you.” He bowed his head. “For giving me back Roxy, my treasure, and safeguarding her with immortality.”

Wing Slayer began to fade from their view. “Guard her well, hunter.” And then he was gone.

Key swept her up in his arms. “For all eternity.”

Her mind was spinning, her body humming with magic and love. Kieran had fought for her, right to the death as he’d sworn. His love was a swirling silver light in her mind.

His face softened. “I love you, Roxy. I promised you I’d fight for you. You’re mine. I will fight for you and with you, but I will never walk away from you.”

Joy crowded her heart, and tears filled her eyes. “I’ve been looking for you so many lifetimes, to finally have found you

I’ve come home.”

A WEEK LATER

Roxy sat on the grass in the moonlight with her cousin, gazing at the graves of her parents. Key had drawn the image of her mother holding the tiny, brilliant light that was their daughter’s spirit on her mother’s headstone. And for her father, Key had drawn his hand reaching down from the heavens to touch his daughter, as he had touched Roxy when her mom gave her the message from him.

Her heart was at peace for her parents. It was Shayla she worried about. “Where will you go?”

Her cousin looked thinner, anxious. Roxy could feel only weak flickers of her magic.

Shayla shook her head. “I never wanted this, never wanted to Awaken. And now

I can’t be around people. At least not anyone who wants children.” Twisting her mouth, she said, “I could hire out to frat parties.”

Roxy squeezed Shayla’s hand, her heart breaking for her. “I have my high magic, maybe I can figure out what happened to cause infertility witches and find the answer.”

Shayla looked at her mounting frustration. “You can try, but before the curse, no one ever could find the cause or reason that an infertility witch is born once each generation. In the meantime, I can’t stay here, I can’t be near him. I’m

it’s building. The need, the restlessness and I

have to go. Get away.”

“Shayla, he could be your soul mirror. Maybe that would break this infertility thing, and free you.”

“This existed before the curse. You know that. And what man would want a woman who not only is infertile but would make him, and everyone around them, infertile?” She sucked in a breath, the old anger rising.

Roxy winced, knowing she had a point. “Still, the other soulmirror witches and I might be able to find an answer.”

Shayla pulled her hand from Roxy’s. “No. You trust them, I get that. I don’t. I can’t.”

She sighed. Shayla had her reasons, but this was tearing Roxy apart. She tried bribery. “I’m taking over my father’s production company, and I’m going to buy the rights to the Eternal Assassins. I want you to write the script.”

“Good try. I can write the script anywhere. I just need to leave.” She stood up.

It was inevitable. She hated letting her go, but Roxy had learned a truth; they each had their own journey. She rose and hugged her.

Shayla hugged her back and said, “How long do I have until you tell Ram?”

“I don’t know. What would I tell him? That wasn’t a supersized weapon you got zapped with in my apartment, that was my cousin. You’re her Awakening, and the jolt was just chemistry. Unless he was her soul mirror? But then there’s the whole infertility witch problem. And who knew how Ram, who ate, slept, and breathed discipline, would react.

Shayla’s eyes clouded. “He won’t come after me anyway. Tell him, I don’t care.” She turned to walk to her car in the parking lot. She hesitated and turned back, “You’ll be all right here?”

They’d come together in the same car. “Yes, Key’s on his way now.”

“I’ll call you.”

“Shayla, I love you, and I’ll always be here for you.”

Her cousin nodded, turned, and left.

Her heart ached. A few seconds later she felt the breeze behind her, and then Kieran’s wings wrapped around her. “We have to tell him, Roxy.”

Of course Kieran knew. She didn’t lie or hold secrets from him. “I know.” She turned and looked up at him. “How’s Tyler? Was he excited?”

His eyes caught the moonlight. “Oh yeah. The kid couldn’t believe it when I told him he was getting his own wall at Mural Maze. We spent an hour sketching out ideas. That boy has some big-ass talent going on.”

Tyler and his mom were moving into their own place next week and doing well. She lifted her face to Key. “You’re going to be a great dad.”

He traced his finger over her clavicle to the silver dragon wings woven into her skin. He loved that design, and Roxy cherished it as Wing Slayer’s gift. “You give me the strength to overcome my childhood to give our daughter the love and support she needs.”

Tremors of warm pleasure filled her heart while her magic streamed out to follow his touch. She studied him in the moonlight pouring over his face, shoulders, and his chest powerful enough to handle his incredible scaled wings spread out behind him. Kieran had fully merged the dragon and the man into this magnificent hunter she loved. He was fierce, lethal, and just. And hers.

He smiled at her, lifting his hand to her face. “You are my treasure, Roxy.”

Her schema warmed and fired her magic with desire.

Key groaned. “Damn, witch, you’re going to bring me to my knees.”

She felt him harden against her belly and loved it. “I don’t want you on your knees.”

His eyes took on blue heat. “Liar, you love me on my knees.” His voice dropped. “Your goddess adores my kiss.”

Her chakras shivered with pleasure. But she had something else in mind. “You drew me a picture, remember?”

His eyes gleamed and his mouth curved. “So I did.” He reached down and lifted her. “Put your legs around me.”

She linked her ankles behind him. Key turned and launched into a run, his wings pumping in powerful strokes. Soon they lifted off, rising higher and higher into the skies of Glassbreakers. She lay against his chest, listening to the dual heartbeats. The wind blew away her lingering worries about Shayla, leaving her filled with love and joy.

In the picture, we were naked, no? Key’s voice caressed her mind.

Roxy easily controlled her magic and made their clothes vanish. Then she looked up into his eyes.

He lifted her, until she felt the pressure of his erection pressing against her. Her body tightened with anticipation, her magic pooled in heavy need, and her nipples ached. Just when it became unbearable, Key slid home, driving into her until they were one. Then he moved a hand to the center of her back. Show me.

She leaned back against his hand supporting her.

He looked down at her breasts, and she knew he once more looked at the dragon wings spread out in fine, delicate silver. She saw the heat color his face as he began to thrust, somehow holding her at a slight incline, flying while plying her with deep, intimate strokes that made her body sing. Her power rushed up and down her spine, fifth chakra opened, sixth

Kieran

His voice was a deep purr in her head. Now, baby, let me watch. Let me see the magic take you. She was completely at his mercy as he flew them through the skies, thrusting into her body, her magic pulsing and spinning, while filling her head with love. The pleasure of such trust and love shattered through her, spinning her into a bliss of sensation while Kieran’s strong arms held her.

Her magic was winging through him, so freaking hot, he’d had to land before he lost control. He chose the maze by the waterfall. Her power pulsed and squeezed his cock buried inside her. With care, he laid her on the ground and followed her, never breaking their joining.

Roxy opened her eyes, and their green depths captivated him. He leaned down and kissed her, then said, “I believe that’s called a power surge.”

She lifted her hands to his face. “Entirely your fault,” she said softly and moved her hips. “Just the feel of you fires my magic and pleasure.” She lifted higher, taking him deeper.

Key’s control shattered. He took her mouth and filled her body, surrounding himself in Roxy. Losing himself in her. His heart pounded and his blood roared as hot, silky pleasure consumed them. Her scent, her taste, the feel of her skin, her body open and taking him, while her magic caressed him. Roxy had fearlessly chased out the darkness inside him and replaced it with love.

Key broke from her mouth, rising up on his hands, pumping into her, feeding her, giving her everything he had. He looked down into the eyes of his sweet, sinfully perfect witch and felt her body tightening around his.

She wrapped her arms around him. Together. We’ll fly together this time.

Her husky whisper in his mind sent him over the edge with her. They merged in souldeep pleasure and eternal love.
