I squirmed, my flesh burning at the touch.
Brett’s eyes darkened. “Drink this.”
He gave me a bottle of water and I downed half of it in one gulp, the cool liquid soothing my aching throat.
“Lay on your stomach,” he said, lifting me off of his lap.
I moved to lay down when my muscles twitched. “How long was I sleeping for?” I asked as I stretched out on the couch.
“About a half an hour.”
I looked back at him over my shoulder, watching him rummage through something in his desk. “What did you do during that time?”
His gaze met mine, his blue eyes twinkling. “I held you.”
“Oh…isn’t that boring?”
Brett chuckled. “Holding you is never boring, my sweet Evvie.” He knelt at my side before opening a metal tin. “This will make your beautiful ass feel better.” He dipped his fingers into the white salve and placed a kiss on the flesh of my rear before rubbing the ointment onto my skin.
I moaned. The cooling sensation easing the sting from his belt. His belt. His leather belt that I had practically begged him to use on me. And he did. Oh God. What did he think of me?
“Evvie,” he said, placing a soft peck on my mouth. “Stop thinking so much.”
My cheeks heated. “I’m just worri—”
“Are you ashamed of what we did?”
I thought a moment. “No. It’s just…”
Brett lifted me and wrapped the blanket around me, holding me tight. “Then what’s the problem?”
I brushed my thumb over the back of his hand. “I was worried that you would think something was wrong with me.”
Brett pinched my chin and turned my head. “Just because you like pain, doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you.”
“Yeah, but I had no idea I liked it
that
much.”
He smirked. “Oh, I knew you did.”
I frowned. “How?”
“From the first moment I spanked you, I knew. The way you moaned, the way your pussy dripped for me. I bet if I would have looked into your eyes, they would have been dilated.”
He had a point. “Does it make you happy…”
“Of course I’m happy.”
“I mean—”
“I know what you mean, lover. I like giving pain. You clearly like receiving it. Yes, that makes me happy but even if you didn’t like it, I would never force it on you,” he said, kissing my shoulder.
A breath left me on a whoosh and I rubbed a hand down my face. “I’m sorry for the things I said earlier. I didn’t mean them.”
“I know and I’m sorry for not telling Anna about you,” he said brushing a hand down my arm.
I thought a moment. “As much as I try, I can’t hate her.”
He smiled. “I want you to be friends. She…it’s not my place to say but she needs someone like you in her life.”
I nodded and sat up, wincing as the flesh of my ass throbbed.
Brett’s gaze heated, a smug grin spreading on his handsome face. “Seeing my marks on your pale skin, Evvie, makes me feel very satisfied.”
My skin tingled. “I can feel you every time I move,” I said softly.
“I know.” He handed me my dress.
I put it on and shivered when his knuckles brushed down the cheek of my ass.
“Pure perfection.”
My pulse raced.
“As much as I don’t want you to, you should go clean yourself up,” Brett suggested.
I nodded and headed into the bathroom, doing as he said. A couple of minutes later, I headed back to the couch and giggled when he pulled me onto his lap.
Brett brushed his hand up my inner thigh. “I’ll just fill you with my come later.”
If we had it our way, he would be inside of me forever. I loved knowing where he had been, the way my body swelled, ready and aching for him. I could never get enough and I didn’t want to.
Brett cleared his throat and turned me in his arms. “Before I lose control and do what I really want…” His gaze raked over my face. “I have a present for you.”
My heart skipped a beat. “Oh, what is it?”
He laughed and reached behind him before bringing out a small black velvet box. “Now this is not an engagement ring.”
“Oh…okay.” I couldn’t hide the disappointment in my voice. Why was I shocked? It was way too soon. Wasn’t it?
“Evvie,” he said, pinching my chin. His eyes softened. “When I propose, I want to make sure that we’re both ready because I don’t want a long engagement.”
I smiled. “Neither do I.”
Brett winked. “If I had it my way, I would pop the question and then marry you that same day.”
I liked that idea. Just him, me, a minister, two witnesses. It would be small. Intimate. Brett and I didn’t do well around other people…clearly, so a small ceremony would be perfect.
“I can see the wheels turning in your beautiful head, Evvie. Do
you
like that idea?”
“Yes,” I said, cupping his cheek.
“Good but first…” He opened the small box.
I gasped as a gold band lined with diamonds shone up at me. It was simple but breathtaking, much like the person who was giving it to me.
He took it out of the box and grabbed my left hand. “My Evvie, my lover and my best friend. This ring is my promise to you that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want to give you children, even if it’s just one. To see something that we both created would be the happiest day of my life…besides marrying you, of course.”
I laughed and wiped the unexpected tears that were flowing down my cheeks. We had never talked about children. We never even talked about marriage really. I knew we were going to spend the rest of our lives together. He didn’t have to tell me that. It was etched deep inside of me. His love, his heart, his soul, it was all mine.
“This is my promise to you as well that I
will
marry you. In time. When we are both ready.” He kissed my forehead. “Look inside the band.”
I took the ring from him and gasped.
I love you deep
was engraved on the inside.
He slipped the ring onto my finger and kissed it before placing a soft kiss on my mouth. “I do. I love you deep. Deeper than ever before.”
A sob of happiness escaped my lips and I threw my arms around his neck. “I love you,” I whispered.
I couldn’t help but stare at the ring on my finger. It fit perfectly, the small diamonds sparkling in the light.
I covered his face in kisses. “Thank you.”
He chuckled and grabbed my hands, brushing a thumb over the ring. “This ring also lets you know that no matter what shit is thrown at us, we’ll find our way back to each other. As long as we have each other, we can make it through anything, my sweet Evvie.”
I swallowed past the hard lump in my throat.
Brett smiled but not before I noticed something flash in his eyes.
“Are you okay?” I asked and kissed the back of his hand.
He cleared his throat. “The ring was my stepmom’s.”
My heart thudded and I stared at the ring. “It’s beautiful.”
He nodded once. “And so are you.”
My cheeks heated. “Thank you. For everything.” I rose to my feet. The fabric of my dress brushing against my ass made me wince as a slight burn spread over my skin.
Brett kissed my neck. “It will be very hard for me to get any work done, knowing what I just did to you.” He put his belt back on and did up the buckle.
My eyes followed the movement, memories of it touching me, making me have the hardest orgasm ever, reined full force in my mind.
Brett cleared his throat. “Something you like, lover?”
I smiled and licked my lips. “We can always do it again,” I offered.
He chuckled and nipped just under my ear. “It’s too soon. Don’t want to do any damage to that hot little body of yours.”
My stomach flipped. I loved when he called me
little
. I was short and curvy but compared to him, anyone would be small.
“I do enjoy knowing that the sweet juices from your body are on my belt,” he purred. “I can smell you on me and it makes me
hard
.”
A hot shiver ran down my back. God, I would never get over the way he spoke. Desire unfurled deep inside of me. Usually it was
his
scent on me but knowing that mine was on him, did something new to me. It was like I had claimed my territory without even knowing it. I pictured him walking into his club, his head held high knowing that both of us had been scented by each other.
His fingers brushed down my arms, the tiny hairs tingling under his touch. So much was said without him even needing to say any words. His communication through touch left me panting, wanting.
His large hand curled around my throat, tilting my head back against his chest. His dark blue eyes stared into me and I fell. Deep.
He leaned down and licked up the side of my neck to my jaw before delving into my mouth. The kiss was hard, slow and demanding. A reminder of who I belonged to. I didn’t need reminding. I knew. I knew from the very first kiss, the first touch. I was his from the very start.
I opened to him, taking him all the way in as he held me restrained. My body relaxed, turning to mush at the gentle but commanding hold he had on me.
Every time he touched my throat, my body submitted to him before I could even process what he was doing. To trust that he wouldn’t hurt me and give in completely made my heart flutter but I craved it. Needed it on a whole other level. As each day passed, I learned more and more about myself and him.
Brett nipped my bottom lip, sucking it into his mouth before licking down the other side of my neck. He inhaled, his hot breath scorching my skin. “I can feel your heart beat,” he husked, grazing his finger back and forth against my pulse point.
My stomach tumbled and all I could do was stare into his depths.
He kissed my forehead. “Don’t ever forget who you belong to,” he whispered.
I shook my head. “Never.”
Brett grabbed hold of my hand and kissed my ring finger before placing a soft peck on my lips. “I love you,” he breathed against my mouth.
A light knock on the door sounded. “Boss?”
Brett opened the door to a pissed off looking Kane. “What’s up?”
He huffed and ran a hand over his bald head. “A woman is here to see you. I told her you were in a meeting.” His gaze flicked to mine before looking back at Brett. “but she refuses to leave.”
“Thanks, my man,” Brett grumbled.
My stomach twisted. A woman? Oh please God, don’t let be another one like Claire.
Kane nodded once and left us alone.
Brett kissed my forehead. “Go grab a drink but only one. I need you sober for what I plan on doing to you later,” he said, before landing a light swat on my ass.
I yelped, the tender flesh of my rear heating against the sting of his hand.
He winked. “Sensitive, lover?”
I shook my head and headed to the bar, the sound of his deep chuckle following me down the hallway.
Pulling my dress down as far as possible, my cheeks heated when I came into view of the customers and staff milling about. Jake Chan nodded at me from the bar and Tatiana Sweet winked as she walked by me. She usually smacked my ass in fun but her hands were filled with a drink tray and thank God for that.
Each step I took, the material of my clothing brushed against the sensitive skin. Did I have marks? Bruises? Welts even? The salve Brett had put on me earlier made the stinging go away some but it didn’t help completely.
My stomach fluttered. What was I even thinking in asking him to spank me with his belt? Was it in the heat of the moment? Is that why I wanted it?
Once reaching the bar, I slid onto the stool and bit back a gasp. Images of not too long ago and what Brett and I did, invaded my mind. My heart thudded. Brett was right. Every time I moved, I thought of him.
“Hey Evvie.”
I turned to Anna coming up beside me. “Hi.”
She smiled. “Everything good between you and Brett?”
I nodded and looked down at my hands. The gold band flashed in the dim lighting. My heart flipped. A promise ring. After everything that had happened in the last hour or so, everything was very good. I couldn’t believe how much things had changed in the past couple of weeks.
“Evvie?”
“Hmm?” I looked up at Anna smiling.
Her grin widened. “Distracted?”
My cheeks heated. “You could say that.”
She laughed and then her smile faltered, her gaze landing on my left hand. “I like the ring.”
“Thank you.” I didn’t know why but I felt kind of guilty, like I was waving it in her face that Brett was definitely no longer available.
My gaze caught sight of my oldest brother, Evan, approaching the bar. I gave a little wave and motioned for him to join us.
He smiled and then his face paled when his blue eyes landed on Anna.
I frowned and looked back at her. “Anna?”
She stopped twirling the olive in her vodka martini and met my gaze. “Wha…” Her eyes went cold as Evan closed the distance between us.
“Hello Anna,” he grumbled, his eyes darkening. He shoved a hand through his short blonde hair, his stance hard and tense.
“Hi.” She looked away, her back stiffening.
“Do you know each other?” I asked, frowning.
Anna scoffed. “No.”
Confusion coursed through me. “Then what—”
“That’s not my fault, baby,” Evan sneered.
Okay, this was weird. “Evan…”
“I’ll see you later, sis.” He stormed off and headed towards Brett that I now noticed was standing against the wall.
My skin hummed, the flesh of my ass tingling as memories poured in over what we did just a moment ago.
Brett winked at me.
I blew him a kiss.
He captured it and cupped himself over his pants.
I coughed, choking back a gasp and laughed. Shaking my head, I turned back to Anna.
Her eyes flashed before she looked away.
Clearing my throat, my stomach clenched as guilt settled deep inside of me. I wasn’t trying to rub what Brett and I had in her face. God, what was wrong with me? “I’m sorry.”
She let out a deep breath. “It’s fine.” A small smile splayed on her face.
“What’s going on with Evan?” I asked softly, remembering what Brett had said about her needing a friend.
Her cheeks reddened. “Um…”
“You slept with him, didn’t you?” I mentally smacked myself.
Way to be gentle, Evvie.
