"Alison." He looked into her eyes with love,
fear, and longing, all vying for expression. He took her hands and
led her inside, following the line of candles to the ring. He went
down on one knee before her.

"Alison, will you please do me the honor of
accepting this ring? Alison Myers, will you marry me?"

She took his rugged head into her hands and
drew him upwards.

"Oh yes." She said. "I will. For now and for
always."

They kissed for a brief eternity and then
fell down to the bed together, their passion beginning to rise.
Sebastian was unbuttoning her when she put her hands to his.

"Daniel." She said. "How did you know?"

"How did I know what?"

"How could you be so sure that I would
accept, that I would even be here today?"

He smiled. "Ally, I knew you would be my
wife from the first moment I saw you in the café. But I had no idea
when it would be. I’ve had this ring and these candles lighting
every day since the first day I moved into this suite two months
ago."

Alison’s eyes teared up again. How could
anyone show so much love? How could anyone be so sure about love?
How could anyone be so constant, so determined? She kissed him
passionately and fire raced through her. Howard and Melanie were
waiting, but she didn’t care. She wanted him now, at last, after
all they had been through and after all the time she had
waited.

"And don’t worry." He said. "You can keep
calling me Daniel. I never liked Sebastian anyway."

"You would change your name for me,
too?"

"Why not?" He paused. "I’m not that person
anymore. And I’d do anything for you Alison, you know that.
Anything."

Their hungry lips fell against each other
and the happy couple lost themselves in sweet, wonderful
desire.

Resisting the Billionaire Volume

Prologue

When she finally came to, she had no idea where she
was or whose arms encircled her with such love, protection and
care. A luxurious quilt covered her and a strong male body was
molded against her own. MJ couldn't remember a time in her life
when she had felt so happy, so relaxed, so at peace, and so in
love. She didn't know where she was and she didn't care. For all
she knew, the man behind her was just some loser mistake she had
made over one too many beers at McGinty's on the Green.

But then why did everything feel so right?

Something covered her eyes. A blindfold?

That’s right, the
blindfold
…she pulled it off and dropped it
to the floor beside her. The threads of her memory knitted slowly
together against her resistance.

Just a few seconds more of oblivion,
happiness, peace.

Please...

But it was no good. Those arms, she knew
them now; they were definitely his. There was no mistaking them.
They belonged to the man she had spent the last twelve months doing
everything in her power to avoid…

Chapter One

"What's in this?" Adam Hamilton asked his roommate
and landlord, Blake Murray. "I'm not your mule, am I?" He was
joking of course, but on the other hand, he also had no idea how
Blake really made his money.

"Mule?" The tall, dark and strikingly
good-looking man answered. "What the hell is a mule?" Adam was
surprised that Blake didn't know the terminology for a low-level
organized crime delivery boy. But then, Blake seemed to be of a
different social class to him, so maybe he really just didn't
know.

"What's in it?" Adam insisted, pushing back
a dangling lock of his long, floppy blonde hair. He was
good-looking in his own way, also tall and strong, but more in a
West Coast surfer kind of way than the more rugged and classical
Blake.

"None of your business. It's a gift is all.
But don't tell her who it's from."

"Is there some kind of like, romantic
situation going on here? Am I playing cupid or something?"

"If you're playing Cupid, then I’m warning
you, don't stick anything sharp in her. I wouldn't like her to get
infected with anything transmittable."

"Charming as always, dude. Whatever, I'll
deliver your top-secret gift. Any message you want me to give the
young lady while I’m there?"

"Nothing. Say as little as possible to her.
Better yet, say nothing at all. I trust you to deliver, okay?
That’s it. I want it to be anonymous, so that’s why I don't want to
send it by regular courier. I know I can trust you to keep your
mouth shut because if you don't, you'll be homeless before you can
peel those grungy cycle shorts off your skinny ass. Understand? Now
are you going to do this for me or not?"

He could hardly say no, not with how far
behind in rent he was.

Again.

Blake was an awesome guy and he was really
understanding of Adam’s current financial situation. However, it
was difficult to be in someone’s debt all the time, especially if
you shared an apartment with them. He couldn't wait for things to
change so he could pay his benefactor back in full.

He gave Blake a silent salute and took the
box from him.

"Don’t screw up, Adam. And I mean what I say
about not speaking to her. Not a word or Central Park is your new
home. Got it?"

No doubt about it, the guy was an awesome
landlord with a heart of gold, but he was also an asshole -- a
controlling, egocentric, uptight, and king-size asshole.

With bells on.

Seven exhausting hours later, Adam was on
the downtown leg of his itinerary and in the neighborhood of
Blake’s mystery girl.

He found the address. It was a small but
swanky law firm by name of Dewey, Milligan, and Goldberg. He looked
through the thick plate-glass windows of the entrance and stopped
dead in his tracks when he saw the girl he was looking for. There
were only two people in the reception lobby: a beautiful
African-American girl and a drop-dead gorgeous redhead. Blake had
mentioned the red hair, but he hadn’t mentioned what a looker the
girl was.

He watched in awe as she sealed the envelope
she was holding and then sat back in her chair.

Adam watched breathlessly as she pushed back
her long, shining, dark red hair. He caught a glimpse of her
striking green eyes, contrasting perfectly with her flawless pale
skin.

She was beautiful by any standard but to
Adam, she was off the scale.

Glad I wore my baggies
today.
He thought. He looked down at his
long shorts and felt his cock stiffen against his thigh.

"No wonder he has the hots for her." He
murmured.

The redhead turned to the woman opposite
her, the second receptionist on the other side of the lobby. He
could see their lips move, but couldn't hear a word. He didn't
care. He could watch those exquisite lips move silently all day
long.

God, what a mouth.
He thought.

Inside, the girl was asking her co-worker
for a favor.

"Alva, can you cover me for a few minutes
while I run to the post office? I really need to get this letter
mailed today."

"Say what, girl?" Her colleague was an
equally beautiful woman of Afro-Caribbean descent. She represented
everything desirable in a woman of the islands -- everything except
friendliness. She was MJ's new best enemy.

"You've been working here barely three wet
weeks honey, and you're asking me to cover your ass for you
already?"

Shouldn't have wasted my
breath.
The beautiful redhead
thought.

"I’m sorry Alva, I just left this until the
last minute and now it really needs to get done. I won’t be more
than fifteen minutes tops."

Alva gave her a disparaging look.

"Should have thought of that earlier, honey.
You leave reception and you're on your own."

She took a deep breath.

Maybe I need to get out of
New York City for a while.

She could risk leaving her desk but if she
was caught, or more likely if Alva ratted her out, then it would be
guaranteed dismissal. Her boss was anal as hell about what was
acceptable on company time.

But there was no way around this. She had
cut things way too close with her application form for pre-med
school, so now it absolutely had to be sent today before close of
business.

She held the envelope in her hands and
weighed the pros and cons, eyeing the door as she did so. Was the
outside chance of being accepted into a pre-medical program worth
losing a job she hated?

This was her third agency job in as many
months. If she messed this one up, they wouldn't find her any more
work. After years of being the most reliable of employees, she was
rapidly developing a bad reputation. At this point, she hardly even
recognized herself anymore.

MJ had always been so responsible and
capable, but then the crazy sequence of events with her best friend
Alison and the billionaire had thrown her whole world into
disorder. Not only had she had lost both of her best friends at the
same time, but she lost her job as well. She had been with the
Tête-á-Tête gourmet café chain for more than three years and was an
assistant manager in their flagship Midtown branch. Soon she would
have taken over from her immediate boss Don, who was tapped for
promotion to the role of area manager.

She had been working on Don as potential
boyfriend material as well. He was hardworking, ambitious,
good-looking, and single. He had finally been coming around,
noticing her more and more, and paying attention to her in all the
right ways, or so she thought.

But then he had fired her and her two best
friends, Olivia and Alison, because of all the things that went on
in that last insane week that they had all worked together.

All because of Sebastian
Drummond.
She thought. If she had even
known he was a billionaire in the beginning, there would never have
been a problem anyway.

God damn him.
She thought.

Outside, Adam shook his head and looked
again at the package he had to deliver. The last words Blake had
said came back to him now:

Not a word or Central
Park is your new home.’

He looked at the girl and
decided he didn’t give a damn. He would happily live in a cardboard
box if he could spend one night with... he checked the name on the
card:
'MJ O’Rourke.'

MJ.
He thought.
Perfect, sexy, and to
the point. Just like me. Sorry Blake old buddy, but all's fair in
love and war and I'll be damned if this ain't love.

He smoothed back his silky blonde hair,
cleared his throat, and marched through the double doors.

"I wish I'd never laid eyes on that Drummond
guy." MJ murmured to herself.

"You say something?" Her co-worker said.

"Sorry, just talking to myself." MJ replied.
The first sounds of her voice reached Adam’s ears. It was silky and
musical, but also a little sad.

"The first sign of insanity, honey." Alva
said. "You should watch yourself. Clients don't like receptionists
who talk to themselves, and for sure the boss won't like it
either."

MJ nodded her head. It felt like all the
fight had been taken out of her since the billionaire Romeo had
come along and prized her friend away from her. She put the
envelope down in front of her.

What the hell am I going
to do?
She thought.

Adam ignored Alva and stayed focused on his
alabaster angel. Neither of the women had noticed him yet.

He had always known that the girl of his
dreams would be a redhead. Adam swallowed hard.

He had no idea what he was going to say, but
he had to say something. He had always had an easy way with girls,
even as a little boy. But somehow, whenever he felt something
stronger about a woman he would lose his nerve.

He tried hard not to think of that as he got
closer to the marble reception desk and the alabaster beauty before
him.

Don't screw up Adam, not this time. Come on
dude, stay calm; smooth as silk.

"Hey there." He said,
followed by immediate regret.
Yeah,
pure genius.
He thought.
An unforgettable intro.
Smooth as a hog’s toothbrush.

MJ looked up without a hint of recognition.
He wasn’t one of their usual couriers.

Adam flashed a smile at her but she didn't
respond.

Even smiling seemed like an effort to her
these days. Her eyes drifted back down to her envelope and to her
problem.

Alva watched her, disapprovingly.

"I can help you with that." She said
loudly.
