Quest Of The Dragon Tamer (Book 1) (47 page)

“You can deny Choice today, you can deny Chance today, you can even deny your fate, but the truth is this …” Fate moved closer, her face fraught with concern. “There is only one way you should go. There is only one fate you should seek. There is only one spiral you should be on.

“Ren, in every choice there is a right one. In every chance there is an opportunity. If you deny the truth you will deny your fate, and that fate has a divine purpose. I pray you don’t stray from the path placed before you.”

Fate bowed her head. All of the spirals dissipated except for the one she had first drawn: his fate, the one true fate he was supposed to seek.

When Fate lifted her head, she had lost her compassion. Her face became as the others: cold, unfeeling, and commanding. She pointed to the lone spiral beside her.

“Follow your fate. Follow your destiny. Your belief will damn you or raise you. Heed my words and heed them with everything you have. You must destroy your soul.”

Ren watched as Fate walked back to her throne. She turned and looked at him one last time before she closed her eyes. As soon as her eyes shut the building began to shake. Fate crumbled until she was only a heap of white stone. Stones and pillars crashed around him. As Ren turned and ran three voices echoed through the destruction:
You must believe us or you will fail. You must heed us or you will fail. Have strength, have restraint, take heart
