Abby stared at his serious face. “Are you kidding me Jon?”

“Yes.”

She blushed. “I’m sorry. It’s none of my business, is it?”

He shook his head. “No, baby, it’s not. I never ask you about your past. Since you’re full of curiosity tonight, I wonder how many boyfriends you had?”

Her hands froze mid-air, the burger forgotten. “I, uh, well, I was a bit of a -”

His eyes bore in to hers as understanding hit him like an ocean wave that crashed against a rock.

“Loner.”

Jon put the half eaten burger down. He turned to Abby, his arms resting on his thighs. “Baby, there’s nothing to worry about.”

A tear slid down Abby’s cheek. He knew. She should know he could read her like a book. This man, the one who saved her the night Cari took a gun and bounced a bullet off her shoulder in a crowd of people at a bar in Key West, loved her no matter what. She didn’t have to worry if she were good enough. “I’m so sorry,” she cried out as she flung the plate aside. Her hands covered her face. This emotional thing was so unlike her. She was independent and strong. She didn’t cave in to bits of emotional turmoil.

Jon reached out and pulled away her hands. “Look at me Abby.” He pulled her from the chair and placed her on his lap. She flung her arms around his neck and buried her face in his chest.

“I’m embarrassed,” she whispered.

“There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I’m going to make your first time so good, I promise.”

“Jon, I don’t know what to say or do.”

“It all comes natural,” he said. He lifted her up in his arms and began to carry her to the steps of the bus.

“How did you know?” she muttered in his chest. Excitement ran through her but the fear was still there. He was so amazing, so understanding.

“I didn’t know for sure. It hit me when you started asking questions about who I was with. I realized you need reassurance.” Jon put her down inside the bus and called for Penny. She looked reluctant to get back inside, so he made a long tie out and connected it to the picnic table. Even though they both knew Penny wouldn’t run off, rules stated they had to keep her tied.

Abby pulled Pete’s cage outside and set it on the picnic table so Pete could enjoy some weather. “This is it,” she said under her breath. She took a step up in to the bus and turned. Jon stood in front of her, his hand held out.

She closed her eyes. It shouldn’t be a big deal. No one stays a virgin forever. She was too old to be one.

“Abby,” he urged. “Open your eyes, it won’t hurt. If it does, it won’t last.”

“Am I that obvious?”

“Yes.”

She sighed.

“We can do this another time, you know, when you feel ready.” She watched Jon’s face. He wanted her right now, so bad. He sent her silent messages all day with a look in his eyes that frightened yet excited her.

She moved one foot in front of the other. “I’m ready. Right now.” She wanted him to be the first. Abby walked to him and this time she let her hand fall in to his. She began to pull him towards the bedroom.

Slow, steady steps followed her. He took a hold of her other hand as she walked backwards until the oversized bed stopped her from going any further. She swallowed.

He dipped his head the moment his arm swung around her waist and pulled her up against his chest. She did close her eyes then as his warm breath fluttered over her face. His mouth found hers and forced open her own as he began a sweet dance inside. She reached up to grab the back of his head and took a clump of his hair in her fists. He groaned in her mouth.

Abby began to melt in his arms. Her fears began to fade with each sweet kiss. “You make me want to know what it’s like, Jon,” she told him.

Jon answered by lifting her soft cotton top and sliding his hands up her body, taking the shirt with. She raised her arms in the air as he pulled it off. She felt the warm evening air rustled through their open window and shivered.

“You won’t be cold long, I promise.” Jon’s arms closed in on her, pulling her even closer. She could feel his shirt through her bra and wanted to be free of the material so she could rub herself against his flesh. It was as if a need burned so bright she couldn’t help herself.

“I want you naked,” Abby told him and began to strip him of his shirt. He held his arms up and she slid the shirt over muscles that rippled against her hands. She flicked the shirt on the floor and placed both hands back on his chest. Her hands stilled, the flesh beneath her hard and hot to the touch. She leaned in to him and placed a soft, gentle kiss in the crease of his neck. Jon stood still and let her explore. “Don’t move, please.”

With each teasing kiss, his chest moved a little higher as he sucked in more air. A strong, steady pulse beat below her fingertips, it’s thump becoming louder with each move she made. Abby felt powerful, like a warrior princess who was about to stake her claim on the man who stood before her.
Why did she wait so long for this?

“I need this,” she told him.

He gritted his teeth. Her hands moved lower over his hard, flat stomach. She felt his body jerk at first then stilled. His body shifted as it leaned in to her hands. She slid her hands around his waist to the hard muscles of his back, then back to his belt, where she took her time running her hands across the leather and then unclasped the buckle. She slid the jeans over his hips until she heard a soft thump as they fell to the floor.

Her heart began to pound ninety miles an hour.
What do I do now?
Abby squeezed her eyes closed and decided to continue on and go with the moment. Her hands went around his waist again and she lay the palms of her hands on his buttocks. He moaned out loud.

“Enough,” he groaned and picked her up in one swift movement. His mouth crushed hers as he laid her on the bed, their mouths still together. Jon was like a wild man, his heart hammered against her chest and his hands began to touch her as he claimed her flesh. She shivered in spite of herself.

His mouth nipped at her skin, her neck and his fingers pulled away the straps of her bra as he took bits of her flesh in his mouth and pulled. His mouth placed gentle bites in to her flesh that caused her hips to rock against him without thought. He leaned back, his eyes on her breasts as she lay there still in her jeans and in a sheer bra that exposed her to him.

Abby watched him. He peeled her bra off and smiled. She shivered, tiny goosebumps covering her skin. “What are you going to do?” she asked, fearful and yet so hot for him she didn’t know what to do with all the pent up emotion.

“Watch,” he murmured, then lowered his mouth to her nipple. His tongue circled the tip before he took it in his mouth, kissing, pulling and tugging. He moved to the other one and she could feel the warmth spread below.

“Jon,” she cried out. Abby grabbed his shoulders and flung her head back, no longer able to watch him devour her flesh. She dug her nails in to his arms as he moved from one to the other and then began a frantic trail down her belly.

She felt him unsnap her jeans. The cool air drifted across her skin when he moved back to remove them. He hovered over her, looked down. Abby felt lost, she wanted him on her, his hot skin against hers. “I need you,” she told him.

Jon reached out and removed her panties, dragging them down her leg in a movement so slow Abby wanted to cry out. Her pulse raced. Her chest moved higher as he continued to gaze at her body. “You’re beautiful.”

Abby felt a tremor in her heart way beyond the sex part. Her love for him escalated as he admired her body. Then his hand slipped between her thighs and he began to move his fingers against her. Abby sucked in a breath so loud, Jon’s head swiveled towards her.

“Okay?”

She nodded because she couldn’t speak. He pushed a finger inside and moved it in a slow, steady rhythm. His thumb caressed her sensitive part, and she began to move, her eyes still on his face as he watched her hips begin to rock. His other hand reached up to her breast. She placed her hand over his as it moved across her nipple, tugging and caressing. She clung on to his hand and cried out his name.

It overcame her before she realized what happened. She arched her back when it hit her so fast and sudden, Abby let out a moan so loud, Penny let out a series of woofs from outside.

When Abby opened her eyes, Jon smiled down at her, his eyes intense, his intentions written in those dark orbs. It wasn’t over yet, she knew there was more. He ran his hands down her arm, across her chest again and along her belly. He lowered his mouth over hers in a gentle kiss, his tongue exploring her until she began to answer back with her own.

The fire in Abby still scorched her flesh. Her body stirred to life as he lowered himself to her. “I don’t think you have to be gentle anymore, Jon. I want to make you as happy as I feel right now.”

“You’re about to.” His mouth against her ear, he plunged in to her and she stiffened because she didn’t realize it would hurt. But it was fast and quick and in a few strokes the pain was over. Jon knew what he was doing.

Then he began to move his hips. The initial pain disappeared, replaced by a slow moving urge to move against him. Her hips began to rock and her hands began to explore his flesh. She grasped his butt as he exploded inside of her with a mind boggling orgasm that took her with him. Abby clung to him in awe as he cried out, his voice hoarse.

First time in her life she was speechless.

Chapter 2

“I doubt I can move,” Abby told him. She snuggled in to his chest. Jon smiled, his chin resting on her head.

“I better bring Penny in. She’s still whining a bit. She heard you and thinks there’s something wrong.” He still didn’t want to get up. He knew sex with her would be great, but never expected the mind shattering love they shared in these last few hourws. “I’ll be right back.”

Jon stood and slid on the jeans he found slung on the floor in a heap. Stepping off the bus, he took a moment to breathe in the evening air. It was late, almost dark. As dusk began to fall, strings of glowing lights covered a few camper’s porches. A street light or two began to buzz and then pop on, its dim light would get stronger and brighter as the night took over.

The half-eaten burgers on paper plates long forgotten, Jon threw them in the covered tin trash can the camp provided at each site. He didn’t know if any wild animals lurked in Memphis, but he wasn’t about to chance a bear or wolf entering their camp. They were along the tree-line which gave easy access to wild animals.

His head twisted towards the RV when he heard Abby’s voice call out his name. He grinned. “Come on Penny. Time to go in for the night.” Jon untied Penny and carried the bird cage back inside, securing Pete’s cage. Penny settled down in front of the door when he locked it as if it were her job to protect them. He patted her head and began to head back to bed.

He stopped dead in his tracks when he heard her soft cries. A moment of terror hit him. Did she regret making love with him? Did he hurt her? He ran a hand through his hair unsure how to approach this.

Jon took a step in her direction then stilled. It wasn’t a cry he heard, she was laughing. He marched to the bed and stood there above her as she became quite hysterical. Tears streamed down her cheeks and her fits of laughter caught on. He soon began to chuckle. “What’s so funny?”

She shook her head back and forth. “I don’t. I. I can’t stop.” Fits of laughter began again. Jon stripped off his jeans before he crawled under the covers. He pulled her in to his arms while she shook from her head to her feet. Jon began to rub her shoulders and back in gentle strokes. He heard of this kind of behavior before. Had he traumatized her with their lovemaking? She’d been through quite a bit in the last few months. A gunshot grazed her shoulder, finding out her parents were still alive and then a wild and crazy stake out were enough to put someone over the edge. He wasn’t sure why she reacted this way, but you’d think their lovemaking would have the opposite effect.

She began to settle down in his arms. His hand worked its way further down as he began to caress her backside. If she wanted to get hysterical after making love, he would have to reverse the damage. His hand found her naked breast and her body began to stir. “What are you doing?” she whispered before she raised her face to him. The gentle strumming of a lone guitar and soft voices filled up the night from far away but all he cared about in that moment was pleasing her.

“Damage control.”

“Today we go to the Children’s hospital. I’m so excited. We have to go through an orientation process, which is fine by me. I can’t wait. They said Penny must be a certified therapy dog, which she is and they have this program called Doggie Daze where she can spend time with the patients. I am so excited to begin.”

Jon grinned. He leaned over and silenced her with a kiss.

“The thing is the contract is for a year.”

“What?”

She nodded. “Yes, I have to commit myself for a year if I want to volunteer there.”

Jon sighed. She never said a word about this on the way here. They drove over 18 hours and now have to stay for a year. “I can’t leave my practice that long.”

Abby turned to him. “It’s one year.”

“There’s no way Abby. It’s too long. You’ll have to talk to them. See what else we can do.”
