Not First Love (10 page)

Arthur wanted to go out and get the beast. But the way Jan leaned on him, he decided to wait. She needed him, he could see that she was frightened. Some more time passed like that. Arthur was now starting to feel Jan’s soft body against his. He looked at her bare skin on the shoulder covered only by a spaghetti strap. He was starting to feel enamoured. But he had to go out and kill the Bloodsucker before it went too far.

“Jan stay in the room. I will be back soon.”

“No Arthur!”She almost shouted. She turned on the lights and put the robe on. “It is too dangerous!”

The blue eyed man in the house could sense the creature through its body if he wanted to. He had the power to influence and manipulate it. It was almost his slave now in this earth plane. He had summoned the creature from the lower dimensions promising a lot of blood and energy of the humans. In return it will serve his will.

His will now was to get both of them alive. Bring the woman and the man or bring the woman and the man will follow him here.

It can have the blood of the man after he had finished his task with him. He couldn’t wait to have his victory. He had waited for a long time.

The package he had left under the window had started to emit a gray smoke as soon as the moon and stars reached at a particular position. The smoke started to take a form and gradually it solidified. The blue eyed Tantrik was waiting for the moment to arrive. He kind of tuned in his senses with the Bloodsucker. Now he would see what it saw and smell what it smelt.

The creature went searching for its prey looking around the building but it couldn’t find a place to enter without breaking anything. It wanted to break through the glass windows but it would have alerted the man. It flew around and found the window. It could enter through the window and find its way inside the building. He felt the woman nearby.

As the creature slid the window a little, a strong smell attacked it. It was not used to this smell. What was pure and sweet in this plane that did not exist in their plane. It was all dark, slimy and filthy. It took some time to adapt to the smell. It would not have got back in hadn’t the blue eyed man threatened him of severe punishments.

But the second time when he smelled from the bowl, the smell was stronger. It felt its insides burning. It flew out and rested on top of a tree. The blue eyed man was getting impatient. He was looking for a chance now.

The chance came soon. It heard voices and looked up. With voices also came on a light. It made its way up slyly towards the window.

“Come on Arthur, it has left. You don’t have to go after it.”

“It is going to come back again Jan. A Bloodsucker always gets its prey, and until it does it will keep on attacking.  Let me finish this today.”

Jan looked defeated with the logic. “I will come with you.”

“Don’t worry, I will be fine. Don’t forget I do these things.” Arthur assured her. “Now stay here. Keep the door closed from inside. Only when you hear my voice, open it. I will close the window. All right?”

“I will do it,” Jan said and walked towards it before Arthur could stop her. “Don’t!”

“The window will be open?” Jan looked at him surprised he was saying it. She had her back to it.

“Get away from the window!” Arthur shouted. Before he could pull her away he saw the dark figure come in from the window and catch hold of Jan’s right shoulder with its claws.

Things happened just too fast for Jan.  Worrying about Arthur, she had forgotten danger was still lurking in the dark. She felt a sharp grip on her shoulder and saw herself being pulled outside the window. Arthur jumped towards her and she managed to hold his wrist. The pull was getting stronger but she slipped her fingers in the strap of his watch. She felt a sharp pain as the pull got stronger.

She saw her satin robe slipping off from the creature’s claws. The robe had started to tear as the Bloodsucker’s talons dug in to it. She quickly took her right hand off it and with the pull, the right hand of the robe gave way and was only left in the creature’s claws.

She fell towards Arthur. He caught her. He looked at the window. The creature was trying to come at her again.

Arthur felt the kind of rage he had felt for Ron when he tried to hurt Jan. This time, it came stronger. He let it all come out. He let the knife out. No one will take Jan away from him.

Jan watched in horror.

The Bloodsucker tried a second attack, it was trying to coming through the window.

Arthur jumped on it.

She cried out and went to the window. Both of them were going down fast. The creature had lost its balance and was falling on its back.

Arthur was clinging on to it.

Jan ran downstairs.

She could never forgive herself if anything happened to Arthur.

She heard a thud and dashed towards it in the dark. She heard a growl. She prayed for Arthur.

Reaching a clearing she saw Arthur.

He was on the chest of the creature and was pushing the knife through its body in a maddening rage. Black liquid gushed out from its body. It had lost the fight to Arthur.

It had left its last breath but Arthur was oblivious. He kept attacking it because it had tried to take Jan away from her.

Jan saw Arthur was in need of help from her.

“Arthur.”

Arthur stopped knifing and looked around at her.

His eyes were red with anger. Jan came towards him, and he stepped away from the carcass.

She embraced him. Arthur feel his anger subsiding.

She was safe, she was here with him. It’s dead. He let the knife go.

They saw that the carcass was rapidly decomposing and within a few minutes, nothing was left of it except the soil with a dark patch.

They came inside. Jan and Arthur were surprised to see that they were both unhurt. There was not even a scratch on his body. It was unbelievable. But his watch was bore the impact of the fight. Its glass was broken and the strap full of tears. He took it off and Jan saw him throwing it in the dustbin.

Jan remembered she had got the watch for him. She went upstairs to her room and first shut off the window. She knew it was over but she was still in shock. She put cold water on her face and on her body. She sat on the bed and waited for Arthur.

Arthur washed himself. He switched off the camera and deleted the recording.  Then he came up to her room. Jan was still in shock, as he feared. He noticed that Jan was unaware that she was still wearing the torn robe.

Jan saw Arthur and felt relieved.

“Are you okay?” Arthur asked gently. He sat beside her.

She nodded. She said she was not scared but shocked of the new truth she had faced. Things are out there, ugly, violent and dangerous. She was still trying to absorb it all. She felt it was all hopeless. These creatures and so many others, no one knew how many, are out there. They are stronger than humans. She feared mankind was doomed.

Arthur waited for her to finish. Then he took her face in his hands.

“These ugly things had been here long before humanity. Did humans cease to survive?” He looked at Jan’s beautiful eyes. “No, man survived. They attacked you today but did anything happen to you? You survived, didn’t you?”

“Because you were there, Arthur,” Jan said to him.

“And I will always be there for you, I promise.”

“What about the other people?” Jan asked.

Arthur smiled, she was more concerned about the other people than her own safety.

“If there is bad, there is also good to balance in this world. Positive energies are a thousand times stronger than negative energies. There will always be beauty and love to replace ugliness and hate. You know that.”

Jan took a deep breath. He was right. She remembered something. She got up and got the watch.

“I had got this for you but forgotten to give you. God, it has been such a dramatic day.”

Arthur took the watch, it really looked great.

“Is this for saving your life?” He teased Jan.

“Yes, it is,” Jan teased him back.  She realized she was still wearing the torn robe. She took it off threw it away.

Arthur took a gulp, his heart skipped a beat.

She turned towards him and leaned to kiss him, but then stopped just as she was about to touch the skin.

“Oops. Sorry I forgot. I have to ‘think over’ tonight. As you said.”

She gave him her loveliest smile.

Arthur felt the desire getting stronger to touch her. Kiss her. Make love to her.

Here was the woman he was madly in love with. She looked more than lovely in the net dress. He could see her body behind it.  The only thing stopping from holding her was himself. But he had told her to wait. He can control his sexual urge, he said to himself breathlessly.

“Arthur,” Jan said sweetly. She played with her hair sitting beside him. “Can it happen that tomorrow morning ...my mind gets changed and I decided to go back to...Ron?” she said innocently.

“Damn!” Arthur murmured as he lost control of himself. She knew how to make him jealous.

His heart beat faster, he put his hand around. “You are not going anywhere Jan.”

Pulling her closer, he kissed her. His mind went blank.

Jan felt her passion rise as Arthur touched her. She let herself go in his arms. Arthur took the spaghetti straps off her shoulder. He put his hands inside her dress and felt her body. As his fingers touched her nipples, she let out a cry of ecstasy.

Jan had never felt lovemaking like this before. This felt, ethereal. She could not think why, the pleasure made everything go blank to a new level. Only Arthur and she existed in the whole world.

Arthur felt sexual sensations he never felt before. And they were only beginning.

He took off his belt and let go of his jeans. He took off Jan’s dress. She took off his underwear. Neither could wait any longer. The desire to be one was so strong that it felt painful to be two. Jan felt his naked body against hers. It felt so right, so natural. She parted her legs so that they could be one body.

He entered her. They became one.

When they got up next morning, they were still lying in each other’s arms. Both had slept dreamless.

Later, Jan packed up her things. She was leaving the tower building. Arthur was going to drop her to her house which she shared with her friend, Vinnie. She would have to get back to her normal life.

Arthur and she would meet every day and they had many things to talk about. She wanted to accompany him.

Arthur loaded her things in the car and opened the front door open for her to enter.

She took a last glance at the tower and entered the car. Arthur entered the driver’s seat.

“What is it?” he said her as Jan stared pensively at the tower.

“Life plays such games with us.” She was still looking at the tower. “Look at the irony. I believed in fairy tales before coming here. When I first saw this tower, my mind went back to the stories I had read in my childhood. These stories always had a Prince Charming and he was always her first love. I did get my Prince Charming in you. You freed me from my imprisonment that was in my mind.” She looked at Arthur.

“Life chose to teach me here that it’s not always the first love. They should put more practical sense in these old fairy tales,” she mused.

“I never read fairy tales Jan but if I see it your way, in a tower up there I did find a beautiful girl who was my first love.”

“What?”Jan looked surprised.

“But you have had many girlfriends...”

“ But I never let myself fall in love. Now I have. That makes you my first love.” Arthur started the car and drove it out the driveway. The lone tower stood still amongst the chirps of birds and the sounds of the wind.

“I WILL GET MY DUE! “

The blue eyed Tantrik shouted like a madman. Picking up a human skull, he drank from it.

Another Tantrik, 8000 miles away smiled at his defeat.

Arthur had a hundred questions racing across his mind. What were the answers? Were can he find them?

AUTHOR’S NOTE

They say fact is stranger than fiction. If you liked this book of fiction, imagine what how strange the facts would be.

I love to travel and read. I have been to strange lands, met stranger people, known the strangest things. Every experience had helped me expand my mental horizons. But there will always be things that will be beyond our comprehension. They will always be things that would scare us.  But if you see closely, there is nothing more powerful than love itself.

Arthur and Jan are not only the protagonists of this story – for me they are as alive as myself. In my imagination. They live in my heart. Their love gives me hope.
