Nephilim (15 page)

As Ada reached the kitchen Kade and Karla were walking in the backdoor. Ada looked up at the clock to see it was three thirty in the morning. Karla mustn’t sleep, Ada thought to herself. Kade looked Travis up and down and gave a sly smile before looking at Ada. She raised her eyebrow in a challenge and Kade wiped his hand over his mouth to hide his smile. Karla came forward and wrapped her arms around Ada.

“How are you feeling?” Karla asked.

Ada smiled and hugged Karla back.

“I’m doing well. So do we have a plan?” Ada asked pulling the chair out and sitting down at the table.

Kade, Karla and Travis all followed suit.

“We do. And it means we need you” Karla spoke.

Ada nodded.

“Ok what do you want me to do?” she asked.

Karla cleared her throat and opened the folder that she was holding.

“Word has it that Abaddon discovered Dane’s body this morning and he is furious” Karla spoke.

“Yes I imagine he would be” Ada replied with sadness in her voice.

She felt Travis stiffen beside her and she reached under the table to take his hand. She rubbed her thumb against his palm and sent a pleasure feeling to relax him. She felt his hand tighten and his fingers entwine with hers. Her stomach twisted. It felt right and brought her such comfort, but her feelings were still so twisted. He is human. Kade raised an eyebrow.

‘Don’t ask’ Ada said into his mind.

Kade nodded with a wicked smile. He loved nothing more than to torment his daughter. It was a Vampire trait it seemed.

“Ok so how do I fit into this?” Ada asked, turning her attention back to Karla.

“Well I don’t want to do this, but I’ve been assured that you will be fine. But we need to use you to bring him out. He is going to want revenge. He will work it out soon who killed Dane and he will come after you” Karla said.

“How will he know that Ada killed Dane?” Travis asked, his fingers tightening on her hand in a protective manner.

“We will tell him” Karla responded.

The response even shocked Ada, but the feeling she got from Travis and the sudden fury that seemed to flow from his hand into hers said that he wasn’t expecting that response either.

“Absolutely not, there is no way I’m going to send her like a lamb to slaughter” Travis roared as he stood up, knocking the chair backwards onto the floor.

Kade stood up and came to where Travis stood.  He put his hand on Travis’s shoulder.

“She will be fine. She is a strong Witch. I believe she can do this and you know that I would never send her if I thought she couldn’t handle it” Kade spoke gently.

“Yes and that’s why your wife and her Mother is dead” Travis spat.

Instantly Kade’s aura shot a deep red, his eyes narrowed and his face blushed with anger.

“You know nothing” Kade roared.

“I know more than you think I do” Travis said squaring up his shoulders to Kade.

Kade took a step back. Ada stood. She had never seen Travis so brazen, especially in front of Kade. He had previously cowered. But now something was overtaking him.

“Travis? What’s going on?” Ada spoke, reaching out to touch his arm.

Travis turned and took her shoulders in his hands.

“Ada I can’t let you do this. You heard your Aunt, we are soul mates. You may not believe it yet. But I know it. I know you know it. I can feel it. And I won’t lose you” he said, a single tear dripping from his eye.

Ada shook her head.

“Travis I believe what she said. But you need to understand if I don’t do this, I will never avenge my Mother’s death. Abaddon will never stay locked away. And if he isn’t destroyed he will do his best to destroy the human world. And that’s not something I can stand by and watch” she spoke.

Travis nodded and pulled her into his chest. She rested her head on his shoulder as he circled his arms around her waist. She closed her eyes; it felt so right to be in his arms. She didn’t want to leave. She didn’t want to fight Abaddon. But she knew she had to do it. She didn’t want to finally discover her soul mate to have him potentially ripped from her by her own death.

“We will all have her back Travis” Kade said.

Ada looked up to see Kade with his hand on Travis’s shoulder. His face had softened, all the anger had disappeared. Travis nodded and stepped back from Ada.

“I know you are strong. I know that you can do this. I just don’t want to lose you. Ada I need to come with you” he said.

“How? You are a human.” Ada said.

Travis nodded and seemed lost in thought.

“Ada I can help you, I’m sure of it. If we are soulmates doesn’t that mean that you should be able to feel my feeling’s too?” he asked.

“Yes she can” Morrigan said. “Sorry eavesdropping again”

The four of them turned to see Morrigan standing in the doorway of the kitchen. She stepped in and pulled the seat out next to Karla.

“Hello dear” she said to Karla smiling at her. “Ada you can feel Travis just as he feels you. The two of you are able to communicate just as you and your Father can. But for you and Travis it is on a higher level. You and your Dad can communicate with words and negative emotions. But Travis and you have a stronger connection. Your emotions will flow through one another; you have to consciously switch each other off.”

“So how come this is only new? Why didn’t we feel this as children?” Ada asked.

Morrigan reached out and took Ada’s hand as she sat back down beside her aunt.

“You could, it just wasn’t as strong. Don’t you remember telling me how you hated it whenever Travis went out with girls because you just knew they were being intimate and it hurt you?” Morrigan said.

Ada felt her face instantly blush as Travis and Kade both wore identical grins. She turned and looked between the two of them and shook her head.

“But I haven’t been able to feel him as an adult. He’s had other females in his life since then and I haven’t felt that same anger” Ada said.

Morrigan nodded her head.

“You blocked him.” She replied.

“So how do I unblock him then? How do we make it so we both are connected equally?” Ada asked.

“Well with a ceremony” Morrigan said.

“Oh like last night?” Karla asked her eyes twinkling with excitement.

“Not quite, this is a bit more intensive” Morrigan explained. “And it mostly involves Ada and Travis”

Karla slumped in the chair which bought a smile to Ada’s face, she must have really enjoyed the previous night, Ada thought.

“Ok so what is the ceremony?” Ada asked.

“Well it’s a joining ceremony” Morrigan replied.

Ada felt her face blush.

“Oh” Ada said.

“What is a joining ceremony?” Travis asked.

“You’re about to get lucky son” Kade replied with a snort, clapping Travis on the shoulder.

Travis’s eyes bulged and Ada blushed deeper again as the realisation suddenly hit him. She watched as Travis stood to his full height of over six foot and beam, he puffed his chest out like a rooster and Ada could see that he really liked the idea of this ceremony. Kade snorted another laugh and held his fist out for the inaugural men’s fist bump. Ada shook her head and ran her hand through her hair. Morrigan clucked her tongue with annoyance at the immature behaviour going on.

“Well I like the sound of that” Travis said with a big smile.

“I thought you might” Morrigan said with a laugh as she sat back in her chair. “I will call the coven and get things organised”

Morrigan stood and was quickly making it to the door to organise everything.

“Hang on a second. I haven’t agreed to it yet” Ada said.

Morrigan stopped in mid stride turning on her heel to look at Ada. Her face filled with frustration as she stood with her hands on her hips.

“Oh really child; like you have a choice” Morrigan said.

“Yes I have a choice. I can choose who I want to be joined with” Ada spat as she stood and stomped her foot like a spoilt child.

Morrigan waved her hand in the air and huffed.

“Fine have it your way. You go on into this war with Abaddon alone and end up just like your Mother” Morrigan said with a sniff.

“That’s unfair Aunt” Ada said sadly.

“Is it? Is it unfair to want to see the future Queen of this coven and all Witches to be alive and well? Is it unfair to want her to be with her soul mate and continue the line of Witches” Morrigan huffed.

“My children won’t be Witches if my soulmate is a human, you said that Mae isn’t a Witch” Ada responded.

“Just trust” Morrigan said.

Ada suddenly heard her Mother’s voice again. The same words she had heard the night before. Ada’s face paled as she looked between the four people in the kitchen staring at her. Ada felt tears begin to slip from her eyes.  Kade stepped forward and took her in his arms.

“Sweet girl you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. We can defeat Abaddon without you. I want you to do what you feel is right” Kade spoke.

Ada sniffed into his chest, her tears mixing with his shirt. She shrugged her shoulders.

“Let’s do it” she said.

Morrigan let out a cry of celebration. Travis looked at Ada with a frown.

“Are you sure?” he asked.

Ada nodded and took his hand squeezing it. He smiled gently leaning forward and kissing the top of her head. Morrigan instantly started her bustling again. She stopped and held her wrist up looking at her watch.

“Oh it is too late to do it now. We will have to make it for tomorrow night. We will meet here at midnight. Which is good it will give me time to gather everything” Morrigan said, dismissing the room like a school teacher.

Ada rolled her eyes and sighed stifling a yawn.

“You should probably head to bed you look exhausted” Kade said still with his arm around Ada’s shoulder.

Ada nodded and leaned into him further.

“If you’re going to bed” Morrigan called from the other room “sorry eavesdropping, but no sex”

“Damn it” Travis said under his breath.

“That’s enough out of you young man. I swear you’re as bad as Kade, if I didn’t know better I’d swear you were a Vampire” Morrigan laughed.

Travis’s head shot up and stared at Ada. She smiled and tugged on her ears.

“Witch hearing” Ada laughed.

She couldn’t hold back the yawns that continued on as Kade took Karla back to her home and Travis went to his house. She shuffled her way up to bed leaving Morrigan busily preparing for her joining ceremony.

Chapter Nineteen

“If God is my angel, the fucking devil’s the pistol. Better put your face behind safety glass when I load up the missile. Whistling past this infinite path, I limp when I drag my like a giant.” Yelawolf

It certainly wasn’t like she had imagined. Just like a human wedding, Witches dreamed of their joining ceremony with their future partners. First of all she had never thought she would be joining with a human, but having to go through the ceremony without her Mum just sent pain through her heart. Ada felt the tears begin to slip from her eyes, she longed for her Mum to be by her side.

“I’m here child” Ada heard.

Ada shot her head up and looked around the room.

“Mum?” she called.

There was silence. Ada turned her head slowly trying to pin point any noise. But there was nothing, she couldn’t even hear Morrigan fussing around anymore. Slowly Ada slipped off the bed and padded her way across to the door. She quietly opened the door and looked up and down the hallway. But there was not a soul there, the hall was dark and it appeared that even Morrigan may have given up and headed to bed. Ada rubbed her hand over her face. She must be really losing it, she thought. Ada turned and quietly closed the door before padding back to the big four poster bed and climbing under the blankets.

Movement caught Ada’s eye from beneath her door. Ada moved quickly to the edge of the bed and sprung towards the door swinging it open. Frankie let out an alarmed cry as his hand was poised ready to knock on her door.

“Oh Frankie you scared the daylights out of me” she said her heart beat slowing.

“You got scared? Imagine having the door reefed open in the dark” Frankie laughed.

Ada smiled and waved her hand into the room and allowed Frankie to step in. Ada climbed back onto the bed and patted it for Frankie to sit down.

“So what have you got for me?” she asked.

As Frankie sat down he looked Ada up and down with a slightly amused face.

“What ceremony are you being put through now?” he asked.

Ada laughed.

“You noticed Morrigan running around like a chicken without her head then?” Ada laughed as Frankie nodded. “Well a joining ceremony”

Frankie sat back and widened his eyes.

“A joining ceremony? With whom?” he asked.

“Travis” she said.

“A human? Are you fucking crazy?” Frankie practically shouted.
