Medusa (22 page)

The people of Louisiana in general, and the people of New Orleans as well as the Cajun and Creole peoples, have my eternal gratitude for their unequaled hospitality and unquestioning acceptance of a poor renegade Appalachian writer who thought he knew something of Southern politesse.

The idea of the Funhouse/Murder factory was inspired by the nefarious H.H. Holmes, who built a boarding house for an identically murderous purpose, mere blocks from the 1893 World Exposition.

The effects of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita upon New Orleans, as well as other parts of the South, have, sadly, not been fictionalized or exaggerated; nor has the brave and constant resolve of those people who work so hard to rebuild that fine city and the rest of the Gulf Coast.

Laissez les bon temps roullez toujour.

Timothy C. Phillips was born in a small town at the foot of the Appalachians. Youngest of seven children, he attended colleges in Alabama and Louisiana, and holds degrees in English, Forensics and Political Science. He lives in Alabama, where he writes and dabbles in music.
