In
a shadowy glade, a familiar-looking man awoke.  Groggy, a bit confused, he sat
up slowly, his head pounding.  Slightly dazed, he looked around him.  He
recognized plants, grasses, trees.  He was looking for something, some sort of
confirmation.  As he mused, an oversized, cicada-like insect alighted upon the
trunk of a nearby tree, then immediately took flight again, a resounding buzz
marking its passing.  The man stared after it in wonder.  “It worked.  By God,
it worked!”  He lay back down, contemplating his next move as he rested, trying
to regain strength.  After some time a dark mist drifted imperceptibly out of
the shadows and into the clearing, began to flow gently, inexorably toward the
man.  The mist surrounded and embraced this new arrival, and as the man inhaled
deeply, the mist seemed to be taken into him, to become a part of him.  The
mist seemed to him like a welcome friend.  The man was glad for the help; he
had a lot to learn, and so very much to do…
