And then the music changed again, and she knew it was her turn. She stood straight, held her flowers in front of her, and walked to her man.
At first, she was blinded by the décor. Sophie had told her she was going to plan the wedding of the century—Julie just hadn’t realized it would mean

It was like a wedding store puked in the ballroom. There were rose petals on the floor, elaborate flower sculptures, bows on the chairs, and streamers hanging from the ceiling. At the end of the room, Scott, KT (who was his best “man”), Sophie, and the officiate waited for her under a gazebo sort of thing that was pretty much a canopy of flowers.
She looked at her fiancé, who shrugged. She could hear what he was thinking loud and clear:
as long as I get to marry you
.
Yes. She walked down the aisle straight to him.
He came out to meet her, taking her hand and drawing her under the umbrella of flowers.
Julie looked up. “This is amazing.”
“Your new friend did it,” Scott whispered, nodding to the side where Amy from the flower competition looked on with a dreamy expression on her face.
“It’s kind of—” Julie searched for the right word.
“Overkill,” Scott offered, as the procession music ended.
She snickered.
Grinning, he lifted her chin. “It suits us, because we’re both over the top.”
“Yes, Prescott, we
so
are.” She rolled her eyes.
He kissed her, softly, looking into her eyes the whole time. “I love you, Julie.”
“Guys.” KT popped her head between them. Her hair was pulled back in a simple knot, emphasizing her sharp cheekbones. “The official dude hasn’t said you can do that yet.”
“I haven’t,” the officiate agreed.
“Sorry,” Scott said. “My wife is stubborn.”
“She’s not your wife yet,” KT whispered, giving a nervous look at the staring crowd. “I don’t know about you, but I’m dying up here in this coat.”
Sophie leaned in. “I said you should have worn that tux without the shirt. You’d have looked hot wearing it with only a bow tie around your neck.”
KT blushed bright red. “And I said
hell no
. It’s bad enough that I’m standing up here.” She glared at Scott.
Who looked at Julie with an amused grin. “KT doesn’t like being in public.”
The officiate cleared his throat. “Maybe we can get on with this? The guests are waiting.”
KT tugged at her collar. “Which means you have to try to keep your lips off each other for a few minutes, till the husband-and-wife-forever part.”
“We already have forever,” Julie said with a smile. And then she kissed her man again, impatient guests be damned.
