Lost in the Moment (A Savioe Family Novel) (25 page)

Another angry shout sounded from the living room.
I took another unsteady step toward the stairs. I almost lost my balance and tumbled down them. With a sigh, I slipped my heels off and walked down to find out what was going on.

I stumbled into the living room and saw
that Scott, Payne and Hunter held back a mountain of a man as he yelled at Beau. My brow furrowed as I tried to place where I had seen him. His dark hair was shortly cropped and he wore jeans with a simple T-shirt.

“You fucking bastard! I’ll kill you.” The mountain screamed plowing through the three as he tackled Beau to the floor.
Payne bumped into me as he was tossed off causing me to stagger backward into someone.

They placed their hand on my bare arm. A ripple of energy from it let me know just who was there. I glanced back to see Drez
. His eyebrow was raised as he looked over my head at the scene. “What’s going on?” He asked Payne.

“That’s Teague. Beau
, um… dated his sister last year.” Payne scratched the back of his neck.

I gasped drawing their attention to me. “He blames Beau doesn’t he?”

Payne’s eyes were haunted as he nodded his head. I didn’t know exactly what had happened that November night but I knew one thing no one was going to kill my brother. I spun back around to the two of them grappling on the floor. Charles rushed inside the room saw what was happening and nodded to me.

He went one way as I started to go the other. Drez caught my arm before I could move and shook his head. “No. Stay here I’ll do it. Make sure she doesn’t intervene.” He instructed Payne before he walked over to the fray.

“Bastard.” I growled under my breath and turned around to Payne. “What exactly happened to cause this?”

His bottom lip quivered a second before he shook his head. “I don’t know all of it.
I just know that anytime those two are in a room that happens.”

“So it’s about Lacy and that night. What happened then?” I asked.

“Only Beau knows for sure. I just… after you know… she found out about things… next thing we know… well… hell… if your brother wants you to know he’ll tell you.”

“Get off me!” The mountain yelped. I spun around to see Drez holding him in a bear hug yanking him off Beau. His bi
ceps flexed with his exertion.

“Calm down, mate. No one is in the right state of mind to hash this out.” He grunted at the guy receiving a few elbows in the stomach.

Charles helped Beau up and handed him a napkin for his split lip. Beau looked at the blood and sighed in defeat. Someone laughed and shouted behind me. “Let him go and let him finish beating the asshole to a pulp. He fucking deserves it. That whole family does.”

My eyes narrowed as I slowly turned around to find the person behind the voice. Bus stood by the steps
, a beer in his hand and sauntered into the living room. He walked right past me. “Teague, I’ll even help you out. What, just the two of you and the grease monkey? You didn’t bring your other brother. That’s a shame I’d have loved to kick his ass.”

Payne placed a hand on my shoulder to keep me from going after him.

“I’d like to see that happen, Bus. We all know you wouldn’t last five minutes with Luke.” Someone yelled from the other side of the room.

“He doesn’t last five minutes with anyone!” Some girl shouted causing everyone to laugh. Bus flushed with anger.

“You can’t even catch a damn ball anymore!”

“Yeah, you never should have left second string.”

With all the attention on Bus, Teague chose that moment to stomp on Drez’s foot and headbutt him. Drez released his grip, blinking a few times shaking his head to gather his senses. He looked back up at Teague as a slow maniacal grin spread across his full lips. He balled up his fists in front of him and motioned for him to take a swing. Teague swung wildly allowing Drez to duck and hit him twice in the face with short rabbit punches. He tilted his head to the side popping his neck before he baited the bigger man again.

Teague lunged at him his fist making contact with Drez’s lips. Drez’s head snapped back his hand coming up to da
b at the blood. “Thanks, mate. This actually solves a few of my problems.” He then headbutted Teague dropping him to his knees before sending a knee across his face knocking the big man out.

Beau hugged his arm to his ribs as he approached Drez. He placed a hand on his shoulder whispering to him.
I turned my gaze away and spotted Bus by Jess, who had claimed her earlier post in the kitchen. She had her hand on her hip as her head moved side to side as she said something to him. I walked away from Payne to get closer just in case she needed my help.

“You know full damn well Roxy don’t want your sorry ass. So quit trying to get with her. I mean come on
… what girl in here would pass up a Savioe for you.” Jess poked him in the chest before he stormed out of the room.

A crowd of girls
standing by the refrigerator nodded their head in agreement. One spoke up. “I’d give away my mother if I could get with any of them, even the youngest.”

“Screw them I want their friend Drez. I mean did you see him with his shirt off earlier? Damn! The things I would do to that boy.” I narrowed my eyes at the bleach blonde. I thought I recognized her. It was that same girl that was trying to get up on him before… well
, I don’t want to think about that right now.

She kept on unaware of her perilous predicament. “I can’t wait for him to get rid of that twig and come looking for a real woman.” She ran her hands down her curvy body.

My jaw clenched and eyes narrowed at her. I dropped my shoes by the door, fueled by the copious amount of liquid courage I had earlier, I slowly made my way over to her. “A real woman? More like a straight up skank. Only ting real on ya is da case of herpes ya got from sucking off ya dad and his friends. Seriously, wha’ makes ya tink he’d give up a classic like me fo’ a ride on da town trick?”

I cornered her at the wall and got in her face growling. “
If ya so much as breathe on him, I’ll fuck ya up so bad ya pimp would ask me fo’ pointers.”

“Screw you.” She spat in my face.

I balled my fist slamming it into the wall beside her head. She shrieked ducking down in fear. I removed my hand from the drywall and shook off the dust. “Test me and see wha’ happens.”

I walked over to where I had dropped my shoes, picked them up and headed to my family.
I was done with this shit. I couldn’t take one more second of all this drama. I found Charles in the living room.

“Where dey at?” I asked speech still a bit slurred.

He raised his eyebrow at my disheveled state. “They went looking for you. Are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m jus’ done with dis.” I waved my hand in the air.

He pulled his phone out of his pocket and texted someone. “Here, let’s go to the car and get you back in your other clothes before Beau catches you wearing this.”

He wrapped his arm over my shoulder and helped me out of the house to the back of Grace.
I stumbled going down the steps and glared over my shoulder at them. “Charles, did you at least have fun tonight?”

He leaned me against the side of the car as he opened the
door. “Yeah, I did. You?”

I climbed into the backseat grunting. “Some of it was nice.” I pulled my jeans out of my bag and shoved them on. I grabbed the baggy
T-shirt, pulled it on before removing the dress. I crumpled up the red material and shoved it down in the bag. That was a waste. I mean yeah I got a reaction out of him but he didn’t follow through. Why didn’t he follow through?

Drez

My lip ached from my teeth gnashing against them by that punch. There was no way I’d be able to lose myself in any of her kisses now without feeling pain.
I can’t believe we almost…. I ran a hand over my face. Bloody hell, I’m an idiot for going that far with her and ten times the idiot for not finishing the job. She was so tight and responsive. Her skin so sweet, she was so ready for me. When I felt the tiny barrier inside her proving that she was as pure as I thought, there was no way I could take her there. She deserved something better. The whole hearts and flowers shit not a quick toss before rejoining a party.

I walked into the living room and saw the table where she did a shot off me and my body twitched. That was a horrible idea, but then again I knew it would be.
It took everything in me not to carry her off somewhere and have my way with her after that first tentative touch of her velvet soft tongue. I squeezed my eyes shut as my mobile vibrated in my pocket.

Beau: Charles found her. She’s out in Grace tore the fuck up.

I put it back in my pocket and headed for the door. That tarty blonde from earlier stood next to it, her heavily made up face brightened when she saw me and my stomach turned. I rolled my eyes trying to move pass her and her friends.

“Hey there.” She purred at me grabbing my arm pushing her overly endowed chest against me.

I shrugged her off. “No thank you. I have someone.”

“What does she have that I don’t?” She pouted at me obviously drunk.

I sighed not in the mood to deal with flattering someone’s hurt ego. “Self-respect. She has self-respect.”

She sucked in a gasp of shock. I turned away from her and continued down the steps to Grace. Charles was leaning against the opened passenger door talking with his brother. He nodded over to me
. Beau turned around just as I rounded the front of my baby. “Where’s Marie?”

Beau shook his head and nodded to the backseat. “Passed the hell out. I figure we need to sober her up before we get home or all of us will be grounded for life.
I already texted dad to let him know we’re going to go grab some food from Waffle House after the party. That should buy us a few more hours to get her coherent.” He patted his brother on the back. Charles looked at me and ducked in Grace closing the door. Beau walked over to his truck. “Just follow me and Drez…. We are going to have a long talk about the passion mark she has on her neck.”

A what? What was a pashin mawk? Oh a hickey.
I winced as I climbed in the driver side. Charles looked over at me and shook his head grinning. “Hell, don’t worry about it. Luke and I have your back.” His voice was a little slurred.

“Shit. You’ve been drinking haven’t you?”

Beau took us to a secluded field a mile away from the Point.
I parked Grace, turned her off and noticed that Charles had dozed off in the passenger seat. I turned around to check on Marie. Her mouth was slightly agape as she drooled on her bag. She had somehow managed to change back into her jeans and shirt. I looked down at her hand and frowned. When did she mess her knuckles up?

Beau tapped on my window. I opened my door and got out shoving my hands in my pockets.
He stood there with his arm still cradling his ribcage. “You really like her don’t you?”

“More than I should.” I started to lean against Grace
but he shook his head no and motioned for me to follow him. We walked to a clearing just in front of his truck. He reached in a red cooler and offered me a beer. I shook my head. “Promised your dad I wouldn’t drink tonight.”

He nodded his head and kicked the beer back. “
What exactly happened with you two tonight?”

I sighed rubbing the bridge of my nose with my finger and thumb. “She
wore this barely there dress, forced me to allow her to do a body shot off me then….” I took a deep breath and braced myself for his attack. “I almost had sex with her.”

He sat there for a moment lifted his
brow at me and started laughing. A set of dimples popped out on the corner of his mouth. He wiped the corner of his eye. “Forced you? How the hell did she force you?”

No mention of me almost stuffing his sister?
I released the breath I was holding and explained everything. “Jess suggested it to Scott. He enlisted the help of Payne and Hunter. There was no way I’d let her take a shot off Hunter so I volunteered.”

“I can’t believe you fell for that.” He laughed harder. “Scott
does that all the time.” He stopped laughing. “Did you two go to the bedroom on the left or right?”

“Left why?”

“Thank god. He has the room to the right wired up to record everything.” He took another swig of his beer. “What exactly do you mean by almost?”

“She’s still a virgin. Technically.” I rubbed the back of my neck. A
few more moments and she wouldn’t be.
God, she shouldn’t be.

“Did you stop it or her?”
He crushed the can and tossed it in the cooler switching over to a bottle of water.

“I did.” Unfortunately.

He hissed out a long breath. “If she remembers come morning you know she’ll be pissed right?”

I hung my head down and leaned on his truck. “I know.”

“Why did you stop?”

“She deserves better.”
Someone better than me.
I thought grimly.
