Long Past Stopping (39 page)

A
LOT OF FOLKS WERE
involved in helping me put these memories on paper, but none more than Beth Lisick. Without Beth's inspiration and guidance from the very beginning, this book would still just be a title floating around in my head.

To my editors Cassie Jones and Johnathan Wilber at William Morrow, I owe a tremendous amount of thanks for their tireless and enthusiastic involvement in turning my initial drafts into a readable manuscript. I would also like to thank my editor Charlotte Cole at Ebury Press, both for her insights and for making sure I stayed on track.

Without my agents Loretta Barrett and Nick Mollendor at LBB, I wouldn't be thanking anyone, and I am extremely grateful to them for taking on this project.

Writing a memoir wasn't exactly the easiest thing I have ever done, but it was a lot easier knowing I had the love and support of my parents.

Countless others helped me through various stages of this process, whether to listen to me moan or to offer me their feedback, but of special note are J. C. Morrison, Josh Korda, Inga Canfield, Luke Calzonetti, and Tim Dahl.

Finally, I want to thank all the people who made appearances in this book, and those I was unable to include. It goes without saying (but I'm going to say it anyway) that this would have been a very different story without all of you.

Oran Canfield
was raised in Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Central America, New Mexico, Arizona, and the San Francisco Bay area. While attending the San Francisco Art Institute, Oran began his career as a drummer and became heavily involved in San Francisco's flourishing underground music and art communities. Along with his involvement as a drummer for numerous bands in the nineties, he also owned and operated a recording studio and cooperated a music venue featuring experimental and creative jazz music. He has also been a bike messenger, piano restorer, housecleaner, limo driver, and sex-toy maker. Early in 2001, after seven separate stints in rehab, he got clean after attending an experimental treatment center in the Caribbean islands. He lives in Brooklyn, New York, and works as a musician and freelance art handler.
