Lakota Winds (Zebra Historical Romance) (48 page)

"A warrior and hunter's spirit no longer dwells within me, mihigna;
all I yearn to be is your wife and the mother of our children. Wakantanka
matched us better than twin fawns and we will remain together forever.
Our dark suns in the past no longer trouble us."

Wind Dancer gazed deeply into Chumani's dark brown eyes and saw
there her great love and desire for him. He smiled as his fingers reached
out to stroke her soft cheek. "I love and need you with all I am and
with all I will ever be, micante.

Chumani smiled in return as she gazed into his shiny eyes whose
gaze reflected the same emotions which flowed within her. "As I love
and need you in those same ways, mihigna. " She leaned over and
melded their mouths and caressed his bare chest as she savored and
heightened their passion for each other.

Soon they were lost in the wonder of their emotions and united their
bodies to seal their bond again. Each took and gave exquisite pleasure
and continued to kiss and embrace afterward as contentment blanketed
them.

Chumani looked at her beloved. The wild wind which had blown
across their lives and Lakota lands was now a gentle breeze, and the
only wind which affected her was the smiling and dancing one nearby.

Not far away, a gray-haired Dakota woman stood between her faithful
dog companion and a female sacred white buffalo. She stroked the heads
of both as she smiled and her eyes seemingly twinkled with joy as if she knew what was transpiring in the lover's tepee. "It is time to go,
my friends," she said. "Our work here is done for three circles of the
seasons and we are needed elsewhere." She looked overhead and gazed
at wispy white clouds approaching the moon's glowing face. Then she
spoke to one only she could see. "Chase her quickly and bravely, or
she and all you desire will escape your reach forever."

This is the first saga in my new four-book "Lakota Skies" series, about
the children of Chief Rising Bear and Winona. Each saga will feature
the chosen mate, romance, and adventures of one of their children as
the main characters, with the rest of the family playing minor roles as
they did in this story. I hope you enjoyed reading about Wind Dancer
and Dewdrops and learning about the Lakota People and other tribes.
I also hope you will look for Lakota Dawn, Lakota Flower, and Lakota
Nights in Kensington hardcovers and Zebra paperbacks.
