Indignation (34 page)

I start to ponder on my own thoughts. How she has she escaped my trap? How can she be here in person and not trapped like the day I dug her out of her grave? Who has done this? Who dared send free my love into this tragic world that is not meant for us? I do not believe my half-brother has anything to do with it, he must be dead now. Or so that is what should be. I did kill him after all.

I will find the man who did this and I will take power that is rightfully mine. My mind is set on building an army of Demon Shadows to kill whoever is hurting my love. She will remember me and she will love me. She will not have a choice.

“Master!” My loyal pathetic mortal servant calls to me.

“What is it you need, human?” I spat. I have no mercy for the human population who has killed and hunt my kind down for many years. They are also too blinded to see the immortal realm within them. If they knew then there would be no humans. We would have killed them all.

The servant’s eyes glitter with amazement. “The Goddess is here.” He announces.

“She is not a goddess, she has only awakened me. Let her pass.” I order. I am quite frustrated with this human thinking that the woman who has awakened him is a Goddess. She is no Goddess which is an offence to the Hera herself.

“Yes, Master.” He bows his head in respect.

The despicable woman comes to his view. She’s wearing a long white gown that is as if she were a goddess, but her flaws show others she is not one of the higher beings. “Astator, I love what you have done with this place.” I kiss her hand in greeting. A tradition he will not let go of. Today is the day when she will tell me what help she would need from me. She has awakened him and he does know with his old age that no one does that for free.

“Just because I am a demon does not mean I have no sense of taste for my old times.”

“Yes, I see.” She smiles.

“Sit, Jacqueline. What is it you wish? I am in debt with you for awakening me.”

“I only have awakened you for one reason; because I know you are loyal. I want a human girl out of my way, once and for all. That is all I ask.”

“Do you have a name?”

“Cynthia Pastello Machiavelli.” What? What is this? My
amor’s
name mixed in with a human’s name? Jacqueline hands me a small picture of her and a human man, as it appears to be her father.

“Why do you desire this human’s death?” I am curious how the forces of nature can be so cruel in having someone wanting my lover’s death.

“Because I have come back to claim what is mine and she is standing in my way.”

I nod in thought. “I am sorry, Jacqueline. I will not kill this woman.”

She stands up in outrage, but I show no emotion. “And why not? I have awakened you. I command you to kill this insolent human girl who is ruining my plans of returning.”

“I cannot kill her for my reasons. But I can take her away far from wherever and whoever it is you want her away from.”

“I want her dead! I command you to kill her!”

I stand. I will not be treated like a slave. I grab her wrist and push her down on the Victorian chair. “You cannot command me like a slave. I am Astator the demon, not your poppet. Jacqueline, I have been very kind to helping you, but if you are looking for death I commit on this woman, I will not be granted. I am offering to take her far or I will just not help at all. It is your choice after all.”

“You will burn in hell for this, Astator.”  She threatens with fear in her eyes.

“Where do you believe I was in for four hundred years?” I stroke her pale skin. “Dear, Jacqueline, who is it specifically you want her away from?”

“From the De Castellos’.”

“Very well then, it is done. I will be sure to not have her in contact with the De Castellos’. Now, dear, Jacqueline, are you not satisfied?”

“I will believe it will happen soon?”

“This will take time, but sooner than you think it would be.”

“Then I will only be satisfied when she is away from my love.”

“Surely, from her picture she has amounts of beauty. Who would not dare fall in love with such flawless creature?”

Her eyes spike with rage, but I do not care. Jealousy leads no one anywhere.

“Goodbye, Astator.”

She leaves with anger in her veins, but it does nothing to me. I will not kill the woman I love. Cynthia Machiavelli is mine. I will not lose her again to anyone. Whichever man I find that is winning her heart I shall kill with my own two hands. I still have her note that breaks my heart.

I want you to come home soon, Arthur, my arms are waiting open for you, and for you only.

I have almost lost her to someone else once. This lifetime will be different. In order to win her back I must enter her dreams and place myself as the man who almost took her away, her love, my brother, Arthur.

Chapter 1

I catch a sight of a man; He’s no more than twenty five. I don’t know if I’m right, but I think he’s-he’s crying. I don’t know who this strange man is. His hair is cut short, it has a rich dark brown color almost black, with fair skin that is too pale to be normal, and his eyes are black with a hit of red. No blue.  No green. Amazing. His eyes change colors. My eyes wonder around him to observe him. His body is perfect; his arms look as strong as stone. He looks like one of the hot guys’ right out of a book of fantasies. The type of man that only exist in your dreams and nightmares. So perfect it’s untrue.

Where am I? The question that is haunting me. When I looked around to figure out exactly where I am I lose the sight of the man and sink down underneath until I can’t breathe anymore. My lungs are shrinking from the lack of oxygen and my screams are being filled with rich water. What’s going on? The darkness. I only see darkness! Water is all around me like if it’s eating me whole. I don’t know what to do. No! I can’t die like this. What can I do? Then before anything else happened I suddenly felt arms wrap around my waist, those same arms are pulling me up to rescue. I feel as weak as if I’m dying slowly. There’s no pain, just shallow breathes. In an instant the man that I saw earlier had me in his hands, crying, and talking to me. All I want to ask is what the reason for his tears is, but my voice doesn’t appear. The water and my lungs made me half dead and now I cannot speak. As must as I would have loved to talk to this beautiful man before me.

“No you can’t leave me. Fight! Fight damn it! I believe in you, I love you, stay with me my angel.” He whispers to me.

I love you? My Angel? I tried to talk, or force myself to, but as much as I want to I can’t. I don’t remember anything; all I know is that even though he’s a stranger I feel like I know him and there’s something more. I can’t put my finger on it. I feel that the way he called me his Angel and tells me he loves me just feels right. I don’t know how to explain it to myself, but I sort of feel like I love him right back. Weird. When I couldn’t force myself to stay awake with my eyes locking his, I fainted.
