Finding Promise (The Promise Series, A Small Town Romance) (27 page)

She moved towards him now, not taking her eyes off him and
gave him a gift. It was a ring, a simple silver band with the inscription on
the inside reading, ‘forever ours’. “Luke, will you become my partner in this
life? Will you marry me?”

Luke was momentarily stunned. After what had happened this
morning, he’d arrived at a decision to let go of his idea of marriage. He
understood why she was afraid of marriage and was content to just be with her.
He hadn’t expected such a heartfelt declaration in front of the entire town. And
he most certainly had not expected a proposal of marriage.

“Luke?” Caroline waited for his response, his silence making
her anxious. “What do you say? Want to get hitched?” The uncharacteristic
phrase had the crowd chuckling.

“I say… Hell yes!” And with that he kissed her thoroughly,
amidst the crowd and the deafening catcalls, he nearly didn’t hear her say, “I
found Promise.”
