“Come here,” he tugs at her tiny waist, forcing her onto her back on the bed.
“I need to have you now.”
As Sadie falls into the comfort of the plush bedding, she can feel her eyes getting heavy. The severity and intensity of the evening is starting to catch up with her and she can feel a yawn coming on. It is quickly interrupted by Chris, who after tearing the sweatpants off of her, comes up on top of her, nearly pouncing as he does so.
He smiles and dives in for more, this time taking her nipples in his mouth one at a time and then blowing on them. He also fingers them gently once they are erect from his lapping tongue. As Chris is in control on top of her, kissing and licking her nipples, Sadie can feel his rock hard staff teasing her opening and having great difficulty getting any further than that, without substantial lubrication.
Chris tries harder at getting his wife aroused, only resulting in him looking even more desperate than before. He traces his hand between her legs again, feeling her barren body again and puffing frustrated air out of his mouth as he does so. “I’ll get the lube?”
There is nothing more that Sadie would love in this moment than the courage to reject his advances, to roll over and to go to sleep, but she can’t. For some reason, the thought of shattering Chris’ confidence is something she cannot fathom, so as always, she nods and smiles at him, giving him permission to walk over to the top dresser drawer and to grab the cherry-flavored lubricant. They got it in hopes that it would help her to want to go down on Chris more, but it was just another sad excuse she threw his way.
Chris dispenses a couple pumps of the lubricant into his hand before applying
it to his hardened shaft. Sadie watches his every move, saddened by the fact that this step in their lovemaking never had to take place before. It pains her to watch a man she used to love unconditionally, have to apply superficial moisture to himself in order to even enter her. The feeling of Chris’ lubricated fingers between her legs quickly interrupts her thoughts, the wetness leaving a trace where his fingers touch. “Much better.”
Sadie
smiles and prepares herself for her husband, spreading her legs a little farther apart for him to enter her. He reaches in front of him, lining up his lance to meet with her cavern and he slowly gains access into her body, inch by inch. “I should have used more lube maybe.”
She grimaces at the combination of his petty attempt at foreplay and now, his lack of realization that in order to get his wife going, it is going to take a lot more than the usual routine he has become so accustomed to.
Moments later, Chris is fully inside of his wife and allows his body to connect with hers, lying on top of her body and nearly suffocating her under his weight. Sadie applies her hands to his back, rubbing them robotically as she repositions her head near his, able to get some air.
In this position, Sadie
knows exactly how to get Chris off and how to make it happen immediately. After almost ten years of intimacy with same person, she has mastered every inch of his flesh. She just wishes the favor were reciprocated. She digs her nails in deep into his back and puts on her best Oscar worthy performance of the line “I want you to cum inside of me.”
For Chris, those are the only words he needs, as he buries his face deep into the pillow next to her, while his thrusting becomes more frequent. He is again, in his own little pleasure-induced coma, assuming that what he is doing is working and benefiting both of them.
Sadie knows what was about to come next – literally. A few seconds pass and she can feel Chris tighten up and then go completely limp inside of her. She can feel the rush of his ejaculate pour into her body. He lies on top of her for a moment, breathing heavily and trying to compose himself. Once he does, he kisses her on the neck before whispering into her ear, “Sorry baby. You just felt so good tonight. I couldn’t stop.”
Sadie
would believe this statement if it didn’t happen every single time they made love. She forces a smile and pats him on the back. “Don’t worry, I wanted you to,” the words even sound fake this time when she spews them from her lips.
Chris kisses her on the lips and then rises from the bed, removing his body from hers in the process.
Sadie can feel the warmth of the ejaculate leaving her body now and it runs down to her rear end. It feels warm and it only makes her want pleasure even more but Chris is done and off to the bathroom to follow his routine. He will clean himself off, grab something for her to use, brush his teeth and pass out.
It is the same routine that he has followed for as long as she can remember and as she lies there wanting more, Chris emerges with the roll of toilet paper in hand. He chucks it at her from across the room. “Heads up!”
Sadie is able to catch it without even looking, because she is so familiar with the situation. “Look at you go. Is there anything you can’t do?” He admires her reflexes, while brushing his teeth and slobbering a mixture of toothpaste and saliva down his softened body.
Sadie
half-heartedly smiles while she cleans up the mess from between her legs. “I guess not,” she replies to him, glancing up and giving him a brief stare.
“You’re so sexy,” he replies. “
I’m just going to finish up and then I’ll come cuddle up to you.”
Sadie
nods as she finishes cleaning herself with the last toilet paper bunch. She rises from the bed to toss them in the trashcan in the bathroom, where Chris stands to brush his teeth. She doesn’t acknowledge him and instead, walks to the enclosed toilet room, so she can get ready for bed.
As she sits in there, she ca
n feel emptiness inside of her only increase in volume and compound on itself. After years and years of the same sex routine, Sadie feels as though she is on the verge of reaching her breaking point. She sits on the toilet, still allowing Chris to flow from her body, while the emotions are getting the better of her. He never intends on making her feel used but she always ends up feeling this way in the end.
Sadie can hear Chris finish up in the bathroom and waits for him to exit, not wanting to have to put on a show or to pretend to be attracted to him for another moment. She emerges from the toilet, carefully; nearly tip toeing to the sink, where she can hear Chris rustle in the sheets. Once he settles, she lets out a deep breath and if he insists on following the same routine, she knows he’ll be asleep by the time she is finished.
Sadie allows the cool water from the tap to form a puddle in her hands, splashing it on her face moments later, as if to wake herself from a dream. When she is able to open her eyes against the frigid water forming droplets on her skin, she looks into the mirror and realizes her wish has not come true, yet again. She pats off a mixture of the water and salty tears from her face with a nearby towel and sets it down again in its place by memory.
As she steps forward to grab the toothbrush and toothpaste, she can feel her body ache with each motion. Having dry sex with Chris a few times a week takes its toll on her and leaves her body feeling raw.
She would much rather feel this way after passionate sex and hours of stimulation, rather than the hot three minutes it usually takes.
She finishes brushing her teeth and takes a long hard look at herself in the mirror.
Is this really where I wanted to be in my thirties?
Sadie can’t help but dwell over the question. She thought that having Ling in their lives would repair their broken marriage, but in reality, all the adoption has done has increased Sadie’s stress levels. She is thankful she is mother, and couldn’t be happier to have a wonderful daughter in her life, but she also thought along with that would come the perfect family. Her and Chris are far from that.
She ignores the overwhelming sensation to sob and instead, shuts off the bathroom light, stepping into the pure darkness of the bedroom. She slips into bed, again by memory and cozies up to Chris, who as expected, is fast asleep.
“Goodnight,” she whispers to him, her lips trembling as she does so.
He grunts a slur of inaudible words and rolls over further away from her. The motion is the last straw for Sadie, who rolls over onto her back and stares up at the vacant popcorn ceiling that dances above her, wondering where the past ten years have gone and what the next ten years have in store for her, especially given her current miserable state.
“Alright, honey,” Sadie says as she sits next to Ling in the SUV parked outside of the summer school recreation center in the downtown core of the city.
“I’ll be
here to pick you up when you’re done. Have a great day with your friends!” She pulls her daughter in close and tenderly kisses her on the cheek, still radiating with pride from last night, which is unfortunately clouded by haunting reminders of the vacant sex she had with Chris.
“Th
anks mom,” Ling replies. “See you later!”
She hops out of the car and dashes across the main entrance to the school. Plen
ty of kids line the front walkway, soaking up some morning rays and enjoying the weather before their instructors and supervisors come to greet them. The rain from last night has left the entire town looking much greener and richer than it usually does. Sadie keeps her eyes focused on Ling all the way until she is inside the school. At that moment, Sadie turns on her signal light to exit out of the parking area and back onto the busy main street.
Being a stay at home mom who does all of her work online,
Sadie is able to have some freedom during her day. Unlike the quintessential housewife, she is able to do whatever she wants and without any consequence, for the most part. With her daughter at busy at both summer school and regular school and her husband at the office, she can go and have a spa day, each and every day if she felt so inclined.
Although most of the time she likes to keep herself busy in front of her laptop in the comfort of her home, today seems like the kind of day that will bring her a new opportuni
ty or experience. The way the sun is casting its rays down on the downtown core gives Sadie a newfound sense of confidence to grab the bull by the horns and to manifest whatever she wants in this life. Today is also the day where she is meeting a few of her friends for brunch downtown.
As she swerves and navigates her way through the busy downtown rush hour, her cell phone rings within her car’s system. She pushes a button on the steering wheel and takes the call. The caller ID notifies her that it is Chris on the other line.
“Hello?”
“Hey babe, how are you?”
“I’m fine. Just dropped Ling off at summer school and now I’m meeting the girls for brunch. How are you?”
“I’m up to my ears in paperwork and the day hasn’t even really started yet.
We are trying to debrief the McKenzie case and the boss is on my ass today.”
“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that,”
Sadie says out loud as she shoulder checks to make a lane change. “So I guess you’ll be late tonight?”
“I will,” Chris replies. “Don’t bother making a big dinner. I’ll just grab something while I’m here. I’ll let you know when I will be on my way home.”
“Okay,” Sadie says. “Good luck.”
“Thanks,” he replies. “I love you.”
Sadie pauses momentarily, allowing dead air to fall between them. She doesn’t know why it falls over her, but it does. She quickly resumes into consciousness. “I love you too,” Sadie says quickly.
She ends the call before either of them can say another word
, silencing the tension between them for at least a few more hours. Sadie continues driving aggressively until she is outside of the café to meet the girls. As soon as her vehicle is in park, the valet boy walks up to greet her.
“Coming for brunch today, m
a’am?”
“I am, thank you,” Sadie nods as she grabs her belongings from the interior of the vehicle, stuffing them away into her bag neatly before stepping out of the door. “Here are my keys.”
He exchanges them for a token dangling on a key chain and flashes Sadie a warm smile before trading places with her, forcing her SUV into park and taking it to safety.
She pauses for a moment, allowing the warm sun to dance in her long locks and to take in deep breath of the crisp summer air.
It feels great to be out of the house that sometimes feels like a prison more than anything else and to be alone, at least for now.
Just as Sadie is about to turn to grab the handle to enter the café, she gets an overwhelming feeling that overpowers her. She feels as though someone is watching her.
It’s a feeling that has been haunting her for months now, and only affects her when she is out and about in her lonesome. When she is with her family, she feels fine. It’s only when she’s alone that she feels on edge.
After shaking off the temporary sense of paralysis that comes over her, she is able to turn around, slowly, noticing no one. She often trusts in her gut, especially when waves like this come over her.
It freezes her to her core and she knows that it is real; it’s not paranoia. When something like this feels so strong to her, she has to have faith in her intuition.
She continues to scan the busy streets, often catching the eyes of those who pass by, but never
revealing someone who is staring directly at her, their gaze never wavering. She feels free from the haunting sense and is able to regain her strength, heading inside to meet her friends.
Upon entering, the place is nearly stacked full with businessmen and women of the like,
all eating the finest breakfast cuisine. Even though the place is packed, it still is quiet and calm, as these groups of people are the richest in the whole town and they are always on their best behavior.
Sadie
scans the café in search of her friends and locates them at a table near the back. They wave discreetly to her, as to not make a scene and she catches them out of the corner of her eye. She walks steadfast over to them, feeling comfort and greets them, each with a short embrace and a kiss on the cheek.
“Come. Sit,” her friend, Valerie, instructs. She i
s the pack leader of the women and always takes the reigns on the situation. Valerie is the outspoken one of the group and has the fiery red hair to match.
Sadie
listens and takes a seat between her other friends, Jessica and Aubrey, who are subdued compared to Valerie in both mannerisms and appearance.
“Good morning ladies,”
Sadie says to them. “How are all of you?”
“Tired,” they all
say in near unison, spoken like true mothers.
“My boys are driving me nuts lately. I always knew a household full of men would be rough but I had no idea,” Jessica
says, twirling her brown locks between her perfectly manicured nails.
“I know the feeling,” Valerie reciprocates. “I thought a house hold full of men would be a dream come true, but that much testosterone, I feel like I’m growing hair on my chest.”
The women share a laugh, while being treated to morning mimosas, on the house, courtesy of Valerie and her many connections in this town.
“How’s Ling doing? Is she still transitioning?”
Aubrey asks.
“Ling is doing phenomenally well. She actually had a showcase last night at her performing arts class and she sang this opera song. I never knew the girl had it in her,”
Sadie cradles the cup of tea placed before her by the waiter in her hands as she speaks, not quite ready to dive into the alcohol this early in the morning.
“Ling is a singer? You never told u
s this,” Valerie replies, stunned.
“I never knew,”
Sadie retorts. “She is always so shy and I never knew she had such a powerful voice. It gave me a shock that is for sure. It also surprised a few others. So much so, she was even put on the roster at the Opera House in case another opera singer becomes ill. Ling is going to be a replacement.”
“And she’
s only almost six? Imagine the kind of star she is going to be in ten years from now,” Aubrey exclaims. “That’s great!”
“I should have adopted,” Jessica jokes, which causes the other women to giggle.
Even Sadie finds a smile curling on her lips. Her friends were always reliable for putting her in a better mood and she feels in good company with them.
The waiter approaches again and takes each of the women’s orders. Most of them
choose to feast on fresh fruit and crepes, while Valerie opts for a more lavish breakfast, complete with Eggs Benedict and steak. It’s her style, after all, to go big or go home.
As the girls wait for the food an
d continue sipping on coffee, tea or champagne, Valerie breaks the silence, unable to contain the juicy gossip brewing inside of her.
“
So, did you ladies here about what happened to Nicole?”
The girls around the table all stare at Valerie dumfounded, unsure about what she is referring to.
“So you didn’t?” Valerie says with a smirk. “Well have I got a story for you.”
It wouldn’t be a typical morning brunch without a little gossip. For Valerie, Jessica and Aubrey, these moments of the day are the most important to them. This time spent with the girls is their only form of escape for the day and they need to make the most out of it. Sadie is beginning t
o realize what that feels like and finding the same solace in these moments as they do.
“What happened?”
Sadie asks with a worried tone to her voice. “Is she okay?”
“Oh she’s fine, but her marriag
e isn’t,” Valerie states. “She has been having an affair.”
“Seriously?”
Aubrey shrieks inside of the café, causing a few other guests to turn and stare. Valerie gives her a dirty look, embarrassed that they might be deemed the rowdy bunch and that doesn’t sit well with her hierarchy lifestyle.
“Keep quiet and I’ll tell you the rest,” she threatens.
“Tell us,” Jessica replies, softly, so intrigued she can barely stand it.
“Well, you know how she has
been hosting that pottery class at the Y for the past few months? Well I guess she had this gorgeous exchange student named Jose from Brazil join her class and they started flirting pretty steady, which turned into them sleeping together. Greg caught them in the act a few weeks ago and now he’s kicking her out of the house. Isn’t that wild?”
The ladies around the table all stare at each other, unsure what to say. They are so surprised by the information that they don’t really know how to take it. Thankfully, breakfast arrives and they can start concentrating on their food, rather than the story that they just heard.
“Anyways, I guess her and Jose are getting along really well so they might move in together. Apparently he is just gorgeous. Twenty-three. Ripped. Well educated. Well cultured. I’m thinking it’s time for me to get one of those,” Valerie continues on her gossip crusade, all the while maintaining perfect table etiquette and elegantly cutting into her soft-boiled egg.
“Valerie!” Jessica shouts, trying to remain quiet. “Don’t say those kinds of things! Dale loves you so much. You shouldn’t do anything to sabotage that.”
“I agree,” Aubrey warns. “You shouldn’t say stuff like that. The Universe and Law of Attraction will pick up on it and soon you’ll be losing the love of your life.”
“Please,” Valerie says as she chews on a piece of
bloodied steak. “I don’t believe in any of that bullshit. Dale doesn’t know how to please me in bed anymore. I’ve been contemplating leaving him for years,” she bites into her breakfast, chewing and swallowing before speaking again.
She turns her attention to Sadie, who remains quiet as a mouse. “
What do you think, Sadie? What’s your take on me fucking some hot foreign man?”
Sadie
sits there in silence as she chews on a bite of her fruity crepe. She looks around the table as all of the women await her response to the story. She finishes chewing and swallows, all the while thinking of something to say. “Do whatever you want. It’s your life.”
“Thank you,” Valerie says as she eats more of her food. “
Sadie is on the right path. How are things with you and Chris anyways? I always thought he was super sexy until he got that gut of his. How are you managing getting around that in bed?”
“Valerie!”
Aubrey says as she playfully punches her in the arm. “He’s Sadie’s husband.”
“What? I can’t compliment him?”
“I don’t know if that was much of a compliment,” Jessica is quick to get on Valerie’s case. “You should apologize.”
Sadie smiles to herself, still tending to her breakfast, only this time, nervously and anxiously. Her cutlery trembles in her grasp and she does everything in her power to stop it, while the other women pick up on her change in demeanor.
“Is everything alright?” Aubrey asks, curious and worried at the same time. The other women all chime in silently, halting their progress at their meals, deciphering Sadie’s body language.
“Everything is fine,”
Sadie reassures them. “We are just having some problems in the bedroom. Otherwise, we couldn’t be happier.”
“Oh yeah? What kinds of problems?” Valerie asks, always snooping into other people’s business and wanting the latest gossip.
Sadie is careful around her and doesn’t say too much. “It’s nothing and it can be worked upon. I’m not too concerned about it.”
“Sou
nds like you could use a Jose as well,” Valerie teases as she takes a sip of her coffee. “Or a vibrator.”
