pulled him closer, moaning as Tad settled deep inside him.

“Damn, Nick. I need this. You.”

“That’s right.” Nick took a couple of quick breaths, and Tad

wiped a sweaty lock of hair back from his forehead. Nick continued,

“I’m going to make sure you think of me all the time. You’re not

going to want to go back to the closet.”

“I’m already realizing that.” Tad lowered himself over Nick,

waiting for Nick to rock his hips, silently demanding he move. Tad

eased back and then thrust hard, watching Nick for pain and pleasure.

Nick hissed, but dug his heels into Tad’s back, encouraging him

deeper.

“More,” Nick said.

Tad did as he was told. He pulled back slowly, but slammed back

into Nick hard and fast. Nick cried out. Fingers dug grooves into

Tad’s back, but Nick’s expression was pleasure and joy.

“Again?” Tad asked. He grinned, enjoying the tease as much as

the warm, tight heat threatening to shorten the lifespan of his hard on.

“What are you waiting for,” Nick said. He lifted his hips, trying to

force Tad into action.

Giving up on slow, Tad set a quick, sharp pace, pounding into

Nick with each moan from his handsome man spurring him on,

inspiring him to fuck harder, and faster. He shifted his weight,

pressing Nick into the mattress and slipping his arms around Nick’s

shoulders, clutching the man to him as they fucked.

“More,” Nick whispered fiercely against Tad’s ear. “More.”

“You’re going to make me come,” Tad said. Nick moaned and

cried out with each stroke, his noises vibrating through Tad’s cock

and forcing his balls to draw up, demanding release.

“That’s the point.” Nick’s words were panted out and punctuated

with keening moans that sharpened Tad’s cock until he felt like he’d

break if he didn’t come. His orgasm burst free without conscious

decision to give in to the need. Tad grunted and kept thrusting through

his little death, spurting into the condom as he buried his face in

Nick’s thick, dark hair.

Once his heart slowed and he could breathe and move again, Tad

moaned and turned his head to kiss Nick’s ear. “Sorry, Handsome,” he

whispered.

“For what?” Nick tightened his embrace with arms and legs. He

turned his face to Tad and kissed him tenderly.

“Give me a sec and I’ll finish you off.”

Nick chuckled and rubbed Tad’s shoulders. “Baby, I did finish.

Really? You didn’t notice?”

With a chuckle, Tad said, “I confess to being a bit self-absorbed.

That was one hell of an orgasm.”

“Hooked.” Nick grinned and stole another sweet, gentle kiss.

“Definitely,” Tad said. “And I’m taking you home with me. Best

souvenir ever.”

The knife plunged in when Brandon added,

“Mom cried and moaned a bit about what the

neighbors might say and how I’d never give her

grandkids, and Dad kept me glued to the couch

for an hour, listening to his ranting and raving,

but eventually he calmed down. Overall, I don’t

think it went too bad.”

How could the man be smiling at a time like

this and calmly munching a burger? It sounded

like he’d been through hell. A hell Max should

have joined him in, but didn’t.

Max’s own burger sat untouched on his

plate. He toyed with a French fry, more to have

something to do with his hands than hunger.

“What did you do?” he ventured, keeping

his voice low so as not to be overheard by other

diners at their favorite neighborhood café. He

clearly pictured the scene in his mind: Bran’s

dad exceeding “You boys better not stay out

past curfew again!” mode, face purpling and finger shaking in

Brandon’s face.

Winning a scholarship to State gave Bran the distinct advantage of

somewhere to go if the worse case scenario played out, and he didn’t

have to rely on parents for funds. Unlike Max, who remained very

much dependant on parental support to realize his dreams of

becoming a teacher.

Brandon swallowed a mouthful of milkshake. “I reminded her that

our neighbors included a man who cheated on his wife, several

gossips, a half-dozen slackers, a handful of drunks, and a few

teenagers that both she and dad have told me not to hang out with for

very good reason.”

In spite of it all, Max cracked a half smile. “And she said…”

“She didn’t exactly say anything, just stood with her mouth

hanging open. Then my sister came home. When Dad dropped the

‘fag’ bomb, she calmly told him it wasn’t any big deal since she has

plenty of gay friends, and that I was the same son he’d bragged about

for winning a baseball scholarship the day before.”

He paused long enough for a waitress to ask if they needed

anything, then resumed the conversation once she’d walked away.

“Where was I? Oh, yeah, Cindy told Dad that the only difference in

then and now was them finding out, ‘cause I certainly hadn’t changed.

In the smoothest move ever, she conveniently switched the subject by

launching into the latest news from the hospital, though I think she

made half of it up. She started clinicals this week. I think I owe her

big time for the diversion.

“Oh, and I also think I better warn you that my mom called your

mom, so…” Brandon flashed a sheepish grin. “Sometimes it’s not a

good thing that they’re so close. I guess the cat’s out of the bag, and

your family knows about me, if you didn’t already tell them. At least

our folks can commiserate with each other. How’d things go at your

house? I was surprised your mom didn’t say anything to mine. You’re

here so I’m guessing they didn’t kill you. Unless you’re a ghost.” His

wary gaze darted right and left to ensure no one was watching before

he leaned in and exaggerated a leer, softly whispering, “Although if

you are, you make one sexy ghost.”

Max cringed, ducking away from the hand that reached out to…

playfully swat his shoulder. For a minute there he’d thought Bran

intended to cup his cheek, as so often happened when they were alone.

“Is something wrong?” Brandon asked, cocking his head in

question.

Here goes confession time. Max studied his French fry, a nearly

unrecognizable pile of goop now. He couldn’t bear seeing all that

unwarranted trust in his lover’s eyes. “I… I didn’t tell them.”

“You what? Why not?” A brief glance up showed that at least

Brandon didn’t look hurt — yet — only confused. “We agreed to do it

last night. We’ve been talking about this ever since I found out I was

up for the scholarship. Once we graduated high school we’d stop

hiding.”

Taking a deep breath and letting it out in a forceful huff, Max

asked, “Why do I have to tell them at all? Why can’t we keep on like

we have been?”

That warm, steady hand did brush his cheek then, under the guise

of adjusting the curtain to block the sun from their table. Brandon’s

focus honed in on Max. “I can’t keep hiding who I am and what you

mean to me. I want a life with you, and we deserve the same rights my

sister has when she dates a guy. I love you, Maxxie, and I don’t give a

shit who knows it or what they have to say about it.”

Max stared in horror at the next table, but the family of four

continued eating and chatting amongst themselves, which he took to

mean they hadn’t listened. His chest tightened and tears clogged his

throat at Brandon’s open declaration. More than the words, the

adoration shining in his boyfriend’s big brown eyes ripped his heart in

two. They stared at each other as if across an insurmountable chasm,

physically separated by only a few feet that might as well have been a

thousand miles.

The weight of the world and both of their futures rested on Max’s

shoulders, narrow things that they were. Not like big, strong

Brandon’s. No, in contrast to his fearless, athletic best friend and

lover, Max couldn’t help feeling small and weak. Especially when,

suffocated by a world closing in, he opened his mouth and out came,

“I’m sorry, Bran. My… my folks. They’d…” He hung his head in

defeat. “I just can’t do it.”

“But I’m leaving for State soon. And since your folks insist you

attend college locally, how will we see each other? They won’t believe

‘just friends’ are driving four hours one way to spend every weekend

together. They’re bound to figure it out on their own.”

Then he dropped the accusation Max had feared the most. “You

promised.” And there it was, the hurt that he knew his cold feet would

cause. Let down. He’d let down the one person in the world he’d

sworn never to disappoint.

Panic clutched at Max’s insides, squeezing hard as Brandon’s

warning hit home.
Oh shit, he’s right!
Dad may seem oblivious at

times, more interested in the latest headlines than what went on in his

own house, but Mom? She’d figure it out by the second visit. When

they’d talked about this while making college plans, it’d sounded so

easy.

It was one thing talking about coming out months ago, reality was
