“Hill!” she screamed and rushed to his side. “Oh my god, you’re alive,” she said, cradling his head in her arms, kissing his face, her tears dropping on his cheeks.

“Hey darlin’,” he said weakly. “I told you I wouldn’t leave you.”

ONE MONTH LATER

“So how’d you know to come back?” Hill asked.

When Hill had sent Samantha to meet with Lowell, before she got too far, she realized Hill was trying to get rid of her. And she knew why. Either he was going to find Caitlin, or he was going to lure Caitlin to him. She made a quick U-turn and sped back to the warehouse, pulling the gun Bill had bought her from the glove compartment as she parked in front of the warehouse. Hill needed her, and she wanted to be ready. But Lowell had called her cell phone. She answered so she could tell him to send help. And that’s what he did, sent help.

“I’m sorry I didn’t support you when you wanted to find the truth. Now I realize how much that meant to you.”

“No, you’re more important to me,” he said, caressing her arm.

The guard announced they had five more minutes. Both Hill and Samantha looked at the clock and then at each other.

“When will you come back to see me?”

“I’ll come back next weekend . . . to pick you up.”

“What?”

“Lowell just texted me on my way here. You’re being released next week. Lowell got the charges against you dropped.”

Hill was overcome with emotion. He’d get to go home to Samantha and Hillary. He’d get to start his life all over.

Agent Reeves arrested Rosemary as an accessory to murder. Gabe continued living in the mansion, patiently awaiting Rosemary’s release in another seven years.

Hill finally proposed to Samantha after her divorce from Bill was finalized. They never told Hillary that Hill was her daddy—Hill was happy to be stepdad instead. They didn’t want to take away the only man Hillary had known as her father, Bill.

Hill petitioned the State Bar to reacquire his license, since he’d been exonerated, and after a year-long fight, he was finally given permission to practice law once again. He and Sam started a small private practice representing people who had been wrongfully convicted.
