Boston Cream Killer: Book 8 in The INNcredibly Sweet Series (18 page)

Chas swallowed hard and looked down for a moment. He’d grown quite close to the overprotective Marine, and had never even considered the possibility that he might be reassigned. He cleared his throat and spoke.

“I see,” he nodded briefly.

“I’ll be stationed at the mansion,” Paddy offered, feeling extremely out of place.

Kel stood, uncharacteristically quiet. He raised his glass and looked around the room with great affection and a great measure of sadness.

“I’d like to propose a toast. To the kindest, most generous and loving people I’ve ever had the joy of encountering. Missy and Chas—” the artist swallowed, took a deep breath to maintain his composure, and continued. “Missy and Chas are beacons of warmth and love in a world filled with far too much darkness. They have touched my life profoundly, and I will never be the same. Cheers.”

He raised his glass to Chas, among the despondent chorus of “cheers” and the detective stood to embrace him.
