A darkness filled the corners of my vision. I tasted filth. My hands shook uncontrollably and I had to set the phone down.
Was this whole weekend some kind of sick hazing?
I tried to focus my mind on the events of the weekend trying to tell myself to calm down. But the facts got in the way.
I thought back to the first night and Lizzy's reactions to Aiden's touches, to his presence in his kitchen. Her over dramatized moaning and over-the-top yearning for him. My eye twitched as I remembered that it was Lizzy who had brought him back into the private dining area and put me on the spot.
I thought back to the set up the night after. How Aiden had told me it was Peyton who had swung the dinner invite.
Why on earth would Aiden have invited us all over if he was throwing a dinner party for important guests?
I could only make sense of it when I threw it in the light of some cruel practical joke. Why hadn't I recognized the comfortable flirting between Aiden and Lizzy in the library? The kind of flirting that only couples can pull off.
What kind of sick relationship were they sharing that she might ask him to have sex with me just so she could get her kicks off as the mean girl?
Fear seeped into my mind grabbing a hold of the deepest part of my brain. It wandered into dark places filled with dark scenarios. I felt my heart fluttering from panic. I couldn't breathe. Memories of the weekend with Aiden suddenly took on a dark hue. The same dark hue that filtered out the worst parts of my life back in New York. All the times I teased him for using rehashed moves on multiple girls now became serious questions that he had shirked and sidestepped. They now became clues that led back to Lizzy.
That burlesque bitch.
I felt dirty. I wanted to take a shower and wash what we had just done down the drain forever. My body jumped from hot to cold and back again causing the room to spin.
I dropped to the floor and cried.
