My Most Precious One (4 page)

We walked into the place the music was electric and made the space seem alive. It was posh and high class. There were three large crystal chandeliers that hung low from the ceiling. The dimmed lights added to the effect of the radiant purple lit bar. There were small round plush leather couches like the ones from the 30’s that had small round tables in the middle. The bar had to be the focal point seeing how it glowed purple with its own tinier versions of the chandeliers that hung from the ceiling. Small black leather stools surrounded the bar with little candles that lit your seating area.

I could see a small corner near the end of bar, marked reserved. Both Kaci and I looked over at Roxi, who nodded.

“Yes!” We cried. It felt good walking in my new extremely high heels making that tapping noise on the black stone floor. It made me feel like a real woman, sexy and alive, my confidence finally coming back from this afternoon’s fiasco with the Suit.

Once we sat down Roxi called over the barman, “Hey Jaks.” He smiled. “These are my girls, Lexi and Kaci and we are here to get loaded!” We laughed at her.

“Do you guys want to have wine?” He asked, all three of us looked at each other and shook are heads no.

“VODKA!” We cried in unison.

“Alright girls.” He laughed “One bottle of Grey Goose coming up.” I don’t think so.

“Sorry Jaks make it Belvedere.” He nodded. Both girls looked at me. “What? I hate Grey Goose.” The music was amazing. The bar had a live dj that was mixing together Nu and acid jazz.

We finally got our bottle with all the trimmings.

Kaci did the first pour, “So you know, the moment you left he ran after you.” Roxi started.

“What?” I looked at her.

“Yeah when you waved goodbye and didn’t even look at him, he lost his mind. He grabbed his jacket and ran right after you.” Kaci added.

“He asked me why you didn’t serve him and I said you weren’t feeling well, so you reduced your tables by giving one to me.” Kaci said as she lifted her drink to her lips.

“Look guys, seriously he has a girlfriend and I’m not interesting in getting involved with that. Plus have you seen him? He’s way out of my league, like crazy stupid out of my league.” Roxi hit me once in the back of the head.

“Bitch, have you seen yourself clearly? No correction have you seen the amount of men in this room right now who are thinking about diving in and eating out your pussy?” She said bluntly. I grabbed my drink and took a long swig.

“It’s not her fault, guys don’t always approach her.” Kaci coming to my rescue “She looks like she’s a man eater. Like a female prey mantis that rips the head of her lover when she done.” Screw you Kaci.

“Guys I’m right here, you mind leaving me what little dignity I have left?” I waved at both of them.

Roxi put her drink down. “Are you going to shut up now?” She asked.

I knew that look. “Roxi don’t fuck around and do something to embarrass me, I’m going to walk all over you with my heels!” I threatened. She stopped and looked at me.

“Niccce, grrrr!” She growled clawing at me. Kaci and I started to laugh, “Seriously stop!” I begged still laughing.

“But you just gave me an incentive.” She pouted giving me the puppy eyes again, she then started to whimper.

“Ah listen! That face and those sounds belong to Peter, your husband, so stop looking at me like that, I’m not him” I put my hands up to her. We all laughed and began drinking again.

I grabbed my drink letting the vodka slowly trickle down my throat burning as it went along, damn that’s good.

“So why are we here today?”

“Apparently, there’s a new landlord who bought all the properties around here. My sister saw him and told me to tell you guys and I quote he’s ‘Dickilicious.’. He’s coming here tonight to meet my bro-in-law, so who knows maybe one of you can score big.” She smiled devilishly.

“He bought all these properties?” I circled my finger in the air.

“Yeah he did. I don’t know much about him, just that he’s some big wig and that he’s super loaded and is big into buying property everywhere.”

Kaci and I shrugged as Roxi was pulled into a bear hug from her brother-in-law. He was a nice guy, her sister was seriously lucky to have found him.

“So ladies what are we drinking?” He asked.

“VODKA!” We screamed again and laughed. I was starting to feel light headed, so I knew it was time to slow down. I called Jaks over and ordered a bottle of water.

“So who’s this guy?” Roxi asked her brother-in-law.

“You’ll know when you see him, the guy is a magnet. Even I’m attracted to him!” We laughed hysterically at his comment.

“Bathroom?” I stood off my barstool.

“Down the hall.” Roxi pointed and continued her conversation with her brother-in-law.

Kaci grabbed my arm “Do you want me to go with you? Crowds.” She nudged her head to the back of her.

I smiled reassuring her “It’s ok, it’s not too bad.” It really wasn’t it was a sit down bar nothing to wild or crazy but Roxi and Kaci always made sure I was comfortable where ever I was.

I started to head towards the bathroom to freshen up, when a slimy little guy who was shorter than me blocked my way. You have to be kidding me. He had black hair that was gelled back, but was hard like a helmet. He wore a thick gold chain, his outfit screamed rip off of the Night at the Roxbury.

“Hey there pretty lady?” Oh Jesus. I thought that these places had bouncers for these types of guys.

“No comprendo!” I said in the little Spanish I knew from college.

“Good.” He murmured.

Great! I’m going to have to get into a fight with a loser at my friend’s brother-in-law’s bar in my awesome dress and my fuck me high heels. This was so not the type of guy I was hoping to get. I tried to move but he blocked me again, making me extremely angry.

When I finally passed him, he grabbed my arm and pulled me to him. “Where are you going baby? I’m not done talking to you.”

I truly hate it when a man calls me baby and it’s for this exact reason. I turned to twist my arm to get it free and punch the fucker out but all I heard was a hard shove against the wall. My body moved with him since he still held onto me. I hit the wall hard and almost fell over when he finally let go of me.

He was being held off the floor by at least four inches.

“Apologize to her!” That voice, it was Lukas. He had on a form fitted white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and a pair of jeans.

“Apologize or I’ll rip your fucken head off!” He roared so loudly that I’m sure the whole place heard him. Roxi and Kaci were now at the other end of the hall, watching all this unfold. The guy finally spit out a sorry and Lukas let him hit the floor, hard. The bouncers showed up and yanked him quickly out the door.

I straightened my dress before passing by Lukas. He didn’t bother to move as I walked by him.

“Could you be more careful next time?” He asked, well more like demanded. He stood with his hand on his waist again, breathing heavy.

“Have you any idea the kinds of things these stupid men think about when they see you wearing something like that?” He strained his words, trying to keep calm.

“I know exactly what men think, that’s why I wore it!” I snapped back.

Lukas and I were back at our staring match. A silent calm stood between us as we glared at each other.

“Okay time to get back to drinking!” I heard Roxi sing to Kaci. I knew they would be watching this non verbal match between us.

“You stupid girl, you came dressed like this for what?” He pointed at me. Oh no he didn’t. Keep calm and cool, the less angry you get the better you control the argument, this was my mantra right now.

“I came dressed like this to prowl, Sir Lukas. I’m here to find someone to fuck and last time I checked you were a customer at the bistro I work for, not my father, not my lover and most certainly not my husband.” I said in low hushed voice. So you know. No man would tell me how I should dress, but I needed him to know there was no relationship between us for him to act this way. His jaw locked making the muscles of his seething sexy face move, his eyes were crystal blue, the colour was so sharp it could cut me.

“To fuck?” It almost came out as a whisper.

“To fuck?” He said again.

I knew I wasn’t going anywhere with this conservation, I took a deep breath and exhaled trying to calm myself down.

I turned to leave but Lukas had other plans. He walked passed me to the stool I sat at taking my small black clutch that matched my shoes. I stared at him as he came at me. In one fluid motion he lowered himself and threw me over his shoulder and proceeded to walk out.

“Ah hello?!” I was calling to my girls but all I saw was Roxi reach over to Kaci to stop her from helping me.

Roxi then yelled “HAVE FUN!”

Hateful bitches.

He walked with me over his shoulder for what seemed like a good two blocks. I tried fighting but all he kept saying was .“Don’t bother.” The streets were filled with people starting to enjoy the early summer we were having, terraces were open and people were outside smoking and drinking and everyone was staring at us. I could seriously kill someone now and I wouldn’t be convicted.

The night had a gentle warm breeze and the moon was full and low, lighting up the sky. If he had picked me up any other way, I would have considered it romantic but right now I just felt dumb and stupid. I could feel my anger rising and my sense of self dignity falling, stupid treacherous tears began to fall. Fuck I was so pissed.

“Neanderthal!” I cried out trying to reign in some sort of control.

“Only when it comes to you.” He said in calm manner.

“Screw you Lukas” I cried out again, with that I got a slap right on the ass.

We finally reached a building, he punched in a code and a middle age man came running up to us.

“Monsieur Lukas!” He said in broken English.

“Good night Jacque.” He passed the security guard and walked over to the elevator doors, they opened and he stepped in with me still on his shoulder.

“Lukas put me down.” I hissed.

He ignored me “Lukas?” He punched in a code and slid in a key and the elevator came alive moving us up until we reached the top floor.

The doors opened and he walked in taking off his shoes and leaving my clutch on the small table along the entry way. He walked through the hall not turning any lights on. We reached the middle of the loft like room. From what I could see, there were ceiling to floor windows overlooking the downtown core.

He slowly eased me down, holding me just in case I made a run for it.

“Listen asshole, I don’t like being man handled!” I roared as I pointed at his chest. I felt fury burning through me. I was humiliated in front of countless people including my soon to be ex friends.

“Really?” He asked. I can feel him seething just below the surface. “When it comes to you I will decide how I will handle you.” He said in a slow controlled manner, which made me see red.

“You will decide? You will decide NOTHING when it comes to me!” I yelled. I pushed him off me and began to walk away from him.

“Where are you going?” He cried after me.

“I’m leaving!” I yelled back.

“What did you expect that I would fall into your arms like some heroine from a cheap tawdry romance novel? I am a living breathing person, you can’t man handle me.” I stopped what I was saying and shook my head.

“Why am I even bothering explaining myself to you?” I stalked over to the little side table and picked up my clutch. I pressed the button that called the elevator and waited for the doors to open but nothing happened.

“Fuck!” I yelled.

I turned to see him all smug with his arms crossed waiting for me to walk back over to him, like I was some kind of dog he was training. I just wanted to scream out all of my frustrations right now, I didn’t give a fuck if my body wanted him so bad that it ached being near him. I wanted to be home in my bed right now forgetting his stupid behaviour.

“You said you wanted someone to fuck, so here I am.” He still stood where he was, his arms still crossed, waiting.

I don’t know why I started to cry. Oh right, he basically insinuated that I was some kind of cheap whore. I wiped the slow tears that began to fall and walked over to him, he watched me with his piercing blue eyes. I reached slowly for the bottom of my sweater dress. His face began to change.

“What are you doing?” He asked.

“What you asked!” I screamed.

I began to remove my dress when he stopped me. He lowered the dress back down, realizing he might have gone too far. I pulled my hand back and slapped him hard across the face, the sound echoed through his expensive penthouse.

“I know I’m not much too look at, I know I don’t have much too offer, but I am me and that is enough to make me happy. If I choose to go to a bar to look for a man, that’s my choice. If I want to feel the warmth of a man’s body on mine, to feel desired and to feel like a woman, that’s my choice but today you made me feel like I was a cheap whore. Today you made me feel horrid about myself. Had you been just a little kinder to me I would have given into you. Yes I felt it, the feeling you so vehemently spoke of before, but right now you took it all away.”

He stood still, I could see the angry lines of my slap across his face.

“Call back the elevator Lukas, I want to go home.” I said it so calmly that I scared myself. He waited for what I don’t know, nor did I care. I dropped my shoulders.

“I’ll take you home.” He said quietly.

“No you won’t, you’ve done enough for me today.” He insisted and I just gave in, I was too tired to care. “Fine Lukas, do whatever you want.”

I took off my shoes as we stood in the elevators, my feet were killing me and looking sexy was not my top priority right now. When the doors opened to the garage he stayed back until I walked out first. When I did I looked around to see if I could find his Vanquish. He came slowly from behind me and let out a soft sigh, without asking me he picked me up and began to carry me to his car. I didn’t make an effort to fight. All my fight was gone now. I wanted to lean into his broad chest and cry but I knew better. He had his keys ready in his hand and beeped to unlock the car door. He slowly lowered me down, like I was some kind of precious package that he might break. Well guess what Lukas? You already did that. He opened the door for me and I slid into the seat. He reached for the seatbelt but I grabbed it from him. He gave me the ‘I’m sorry’ look but I just shook it off, ignoring him. He walked around the car I couldn’t help but look. It had become a habit of mine for the last two months to follow his every move. I was going to change that starting tomorrow.
