Micah's Mate (Dark Sky) (13 page)

“I was going to go grab a drink.” Katlyn smiled at him, “You don’t need to wait on me Micah.”

Micah leaned over and kissed her, “Sit, I will get it; it will allow me to escape with some shred of my dignity.” He hopped up and walked toward the kitchen.

Stochi leaned over to her, “So, are you going to tell me what you were doing at the clinic today?”

“It’s none of your business Stochi.” Katlyn smiled at him, “You’re too nosey for your own good. Thank you, however, for the call to Roslyn.”

“Sweet dear sister. I know what you are cooking up in the clinic already, or I have a pretty good guess.” Stochi leaned closer, “You do realize that he is going to be very mad when he finds out.”

Katlyn smiled, “I’m going to tell him this evening, but yes I know he is going to be angry.”

Stochi laughed softly, “Good, keeping secrets is never a good thing. So what happens if this little project does not work?”

Katlyn turned more fully to him, “Then we are back to square one, no harm no foul. So tell me, how did you find out what we were doing?”

“Sweetheart, I listen. People around here whisper but they don’t think of how sound travels. It also doesn’t hurt that everyone forgets I’m around when I’m quiet. Micah would know too if he would pull his head out of the clouds long enough to pay attention.” Stochi leaned back against the couch smugly.

Katlyn looked up to watch Micah come back into the room and smiled. How in the world did she ever get so lucky? Micah almost looked like a Viking warrior with his height and build but he was sensitive to her needs, and kind and generous to everyone around him. He was her soul mate; there was no doubt about it. Even now he was worried about her but he was trying not to ask about the clinic again, accepting her request that he not pry. She was one very lucky woman.

A
nd the abilities she had around him! This power she now had was amazing, all she had to do was open her mind and feel around her and she could tell where he was, what he was feeling, and sometimes she could feel what he was thinking. She wanted to work with him to see how far they could push the limits.

If they worked at it could they speak back and forth? Although the idea felt very strange she thought it could be done.
But she thought of what he had said about the people of his world striving to get ahead. They had wondered if they could do it, not once did they think whether they should do it. Once they got through this issue about the clinic she was going to have to see what he thought of the idea. It had many possibilities that were good but there were so many ways it could go bad.

Breaking into her thoughts Stochi stood,
“Telling him is a good choice little one, this is not something that should be hidden.” He then stood and walked out to the garden.

Micah sat where Stochi had just been and looked at Katlyn, “He has taken quite a liking to you over the last few days.”

“I like him also. He is already like a brother to me. Micah, we need to talk.” Katlyn smiled up at him.

“What do you need sweetheart?” Micah handed her the drink he had gone for.

“Would you mind coming upstairs?” Katlyn didn’t want his family to intrude on this conversation.

Micah pulled her up off the couch and smiled, “Of course.”

Once in their quarters Katlyn moved to the couch in the middle of the room and sat waving him to the seat next to hers.

“Micah, you know I love you.”

“Of course my Niflet; I know everything you feel.” Micah cupped her jaw looking into her eyes. “What has you worried?”

“It is about today at the clinic.” Katlyn took a deep breath and let it out. “Maria and I have been talking about egg donation.”

“Egg donation? I don’t understand.” Micah ran his hand over hers and sat back to listen.

“On Earth we have the ability to donate eggs. Meaning that one woman is born with hundreds of thousands of eggs. Obviously we are not going to come close to using them all so sometimes we donate them to infertile couples.” Katlyn took a second for him to digest this.

Leaning forward Micah looked at her intently, “This is what you and Maria have been speaking of since you had arrived.”

“Yes. The idea occurred to me when you were speaking of Sophia right before we got here and what a wonderful mother she would be. Once I had the idea in my head I spoke with Maria to see if the idea was even feasible here; if your scientists had ever done this.” Katlyn ran her fingers across the top of his hand. “When Maria looked into it she told me that it had been done a very long time ago but not for centuries. Since the sterility had set in there had been no need for this type of science. She has looked over the old information and has consulted with some of the older doctors that she knows. Together we went over the risks and decided to see what would come of it.”

Micah stood and walked to the window, “And you chose to donate to other women so that they could have a chance of having children of their own.”

The idea was a good one, it would help multiple women at one time but, as with any good idea it had consequences.

“Yes.” Katlyn could feel him tensing in aggravation. He was mad or getting there anyway.

“And you did not feel the need to share this with me.” Micah turned back to her his face unreadable. How could she risk herself like this? Anything could have gone wrong during the process, this was inexcusable.

“You would have stopped me.” Katlyn rose to move next to him. “I love you but this was my choice.”

“I would have stopped you because taking your eggs by using science that has not been used in centuries put you in danger.” Micah said this softly but there was a wealth of feeling in those softly spoken words.

“Micah, I know you are angry and I am sorry for that. But if I can help just one woman have a child here, just one, then it was worth the risk.” Katlyn looked up into his very angry eyes.

“Who is going to get the eggs that you have donated?” Micah needed to know, he wanted to know who would be having a child that was half of his Niflet.

Katlyn put her hand on his arm, “First Sophia then Roslyn if they take. We do not even know if it will work yet, it will be days. If it does then the rest will be donated to other families further away.”

Micah stopped and looked at her, “You risked not only yourself with old sciences but you also risked yourself with no assurance that this would even work?” She was insane to have gone through this.

“There was no way to know for sure until it was tried Micah and it was something I had to do. I am sorry if you do not understand.” Katlyn left him looking out the window and walked out of the house and across the hill. She needed a little bit of private time. He was very angry with her; she should have waited a few days to tell him. Finding her at the clinic had been too fresh in his memory.

“Katlyn?”  Stochi moved to her side as she walked through the trees. “I guess he did not take it so well?”

“No. He is very angry.” Katlyn looked into the grey eyes so much like Micah’s. “He just needs a little time to digest the information. He’ll be okay.”

He wove his arm through hers and continued walking, “He does, then he will realize he is being a complete and utter ass and beg your forgiveness. He will also be in awe of your generosity to the women of this family.” Stochi stopped walking and turned her to him, “Like I am. Thank you little sister for everything that you have done and are trying to do. You are an amazing woman with so many gifts, my brother will realize that when he pulls his head out of his ass.”

Katlyn laughed at Stochi’s rude tirade. “Thank you. I needed that.”

Winking at her Stochi spun her around and pulled her back toward the house, “Come, it is almost dinner time and I am hungry.”

Katlyn took his arm and began walking back toward the house, “Why are you here, Stochi?”

“You do not like my company?” he stuck out his bottom lip, in a phony pout. “And here I thought you liked me.”

“That’s not what I meant. I was told by a little bird that you have only now begun hanging around the house; that you had not been here for a long while. Why did you come back and stay?” Katlyn looked up at him and found him thinking about his answer before he spoke.

“I love my family, but sometimes they are a tad bit overwhelming. As much as I wish it were different they do not understand me. They wish for me to pick a mate and become part of the happy family.” Stochi sighed and smiled down at Katlyn, “It is not that I do not wish for a mate but I do not wish for a door mat. I want someone that is my equal not my servant. Does that make any sense? I guess I am looking for someone who wants, how did you put it? Wild screaming sweaty sex?” he chuckled under his breath, “I want someone with that kind of passion for me, not someone after my family status. Your being here has given them a different direction to focus on; they are not on to me about finding a mate constantly. Plus, I like your company.”

“My brother and I are a lot alike. Micah got lucky when found you; you are an amazing woman.” Stochi looked down at her, “I have been told I can petition the law to go to Earth and look for a mate there. I am considering the idea, what would you think of that?”

“I think that you should do what makes you happy, but I don’t think that you need to travel to Earth to find a mate. Women everywhere are different and we are ever changing. If you want a woman that is strong then you have to let that be known. If you want a woman that tells you what she wants, then you have to ask her and push for her answers until she is comfortable telling you without being prompted. You can’t sit back and let her be the person she is, encourage her to become the person she should be.”

Stochi stopped outside of the house, “You think that women can change?”

“I think that women are constantly changing. And I know that human nature tends to make us try to please others. If you give it a little bit of time the five other new comers and I are going to make a huge difference in the women around here.” Katlyn smiled, “Once the women here see that it is not a bad thing to be outspoken, that it is not a bad thing to argue with their mate and it is never a bad thing to have passion for the one that they are with they will change. Never underestimate a woman.”

“Hmm, I will think on this.” He hugged her to him, “And now, here is my ass of a brother come to collect his stubborn woman. Thank you for talking with me, as always it has been a pleasure and I will think on what you have said.” Stochi turned and walked away as Katlyn looked after him hoping that he would find someone to fill the emptiness he was hiding.

“My brother is okay?” Micah put his arm around Katlyn pulling her against his body.

“He will be fine.” Katlyn smiled up at Micah, “Forgive me?”

Micah leaned down and took her mouth with his, “Only if you forgive me for my stubborn stupidity.”

Katlyn kissed him and opened her feelings to him. “There is nothing to forgive.”

Together they moved back into the house to prepare for dinner.

Chapter 8

“So, what is the verdict?” Katlyn asked Maria a month later in the clinic.

“Well, there is good news and bad news.” Maria was glued to the microscope in the corner.

“What is the good news?” Katlyn had been waiting for weeks for the results of Maria’s tests.

“I have finally gotten the egg to fertilize.” Maria looked up smiling, “And before you ask; no, there wasn’t anything wrong with it. It is just that it hasn’t been a part of our science in a very long time. It took a little practice for me to get it right.” Mariah frowned, “I didn’t think asking one of the older doctors for help with this was a good idea. So far I have been able to pass it off as idle curiosity; the less people that know about this the better I think.”

Katlyn smiled, “You’re absolutely right. What is the bad news?”

“We still don’t know if it will take hold yet. I implanted them today in both Roslyn and Sophia so and we should be able to tell if they are pregnant in a couple of days but it will be a month or so before we know if it will stick.” Maria frowned, “It is such a huge idea that I hate the wait.”

Katlyn reached over and touched her shoulder, “Half the battle is done. Now we wait and pray.” Katlyn paused and looked at her intently, “I need you to look at something for me if you don’t mind.” Maria was going to have a fit with this information.

Maria stilled instantly worried, “What is it? Are you ill?”

Katlyn smiled, “No I am not ill. But, I think I’m pregnant.” She tried to control the giddiness that she was feeling but only succeeded in holding in the giggle that formed in her chest.

Maria jumped up, “Really? This soon? This is wonderful! Come on, come on let’s see what we can find.” Maria pulled out a needle to draw some blood.

“I am hoping it is not just nerves, lord knows it could be after everything that has happened. I wonder how Micah will feel about it, it is awfully soon. We are just getting used to each other.” Katlyn had not said anything to him as of yet about this. She didn’t want to get his hopes up over nothing.

“Are you kidding? He will be over the moon, and mom and dad? It will be wonderful news, for everyone.” Once the blood was drawn Maria began the process to analyze it. “It will be just a few minutes.”

Katlyn could almost feel Maria’s excitement. If she was right this would be the first child born in almost eleven years. It would be a new experience for everyone. Katlyn and Maria sat in silence waiting for the test to finish. After about ten minutes Maria began to study the test.

“Well?” Katlyn felt like she was waiting on pins and needles.

“You are definitely pregnant.” Maria smiled and hugged her. “Congratulations!”

“I’m pregnant?” Katlyn felt the breath rush out of her body. She was going to have a baby; she was going to have Micah’s baby. “Please don’t say anything to anyone; I want to tell Micah first.”

“Of course.” Maria was practically bouncing in her seat, “Can you please tell him before dinner? I really want to see mom and dad’s face for this. They will be so happy.”

Katlyn hugged her close one more time, “Thank you Maria. I am headed back home now to tell him.”

Katlyn walked home slowly trying to get a grip on her thoughts. This was big news in the best of circumstances; in this world it was huge.

Katlyn walked around the side of the house and ran directly into Micah as he trained with Stochi. They were training with spear throwing. After a minute of watching Katlyn realized that it wasn’t just spear throwing, they were using their energy to push the spears farther and faster then they would have gone without it.

“Katlyn, what is wrong?” Micah could feel her confusion, happiness, excitement, and worry all merged together. She was thinking of something that she wanted to say pretty badly.

“Micah can we go upstairs and talk please? It is important.” Katlyn smiled at Stochi.

Micah took one look at her face and put down his spear. If it was this important he needed to hear it. “Stochi I will see you a little later.” He took her hand and walked with her upstairs to their room.

“What is wrong Niflet?” Micah moved over to the couch and sat with her; holding her hands with his. She was worrying him with her quietness. His Niflet was many things but she was never quiet.

“Micah, I’m pregnant.” Katlyn blurted out smiling.

Micah felt all of the blood drain from him, “Pregnant? With a child?”

“I hope it’s a child, otherwise I will have some explaining to do won’t I.” Katlyn laughed at his question.

Micah placed his hand over her stomach in wonder, “Our child?” Standing up he lifted her with him and took her over to the bed. Gently he lay her down and slid down beside her. Once next to her he placed his hand on her stomach again. “Our child.”

Katlyn covered his hand with hers, “Our child. Micah, I love you.”

Micah rose up to kiss her slowly, deeply. “I love you Niflet.” Slowly he kissed her running his hand down her neck to her chest and untied the ties keeping her shirt together. He needed to feel her against him; he needed to hold her, to make love to her. As he ran his roughened hands across her nipples he felt the familiar rush of need that he always got from touching her.

“Micah.” Katlyn loved when he touched her, loved feeling the ache she got every time his skin was against hers. She groaned as his hands moved lower skimming her stomach.

Micah ran his lips over her neck slowly kissing every exposed inch. Moving lower he took her breast into his mouth and bit her. As she gasped he suckled there causing her to arch against him, straining for more.

“Niflet, you are my very soul.”

Micah needed her bare against him, he needed to feel her skin against his. Sitting up he pulled his clothing off in record time then moved to hers.

“Katlyn, I need you.”

Katlyn smiled up at him, “What do you need sweetheart?” She reached up and pulled his lips back down to hers knowing without him saying. “Come here.”

Micah lay over her looking into her eyes, “My Niflet.” He ran his mouth down her neck again causing her to arch against him. He loved her responsiveness to his touch, how she let the feeling completely overwhelm her, how she radiated her need to him. Slowly he licked her hard nipples and sucked greedily causing her to gasp and thread her fingers through his hair holding him against her breast harder.

Katlyn moaned deeply, “Don’t stop. Please.”

“Never baby.” He moved to the other breast doing the same. “I love how you burn for me, I can feel it. I can feel your need; I can feel how you ache. I never want this to end my Niflet.” Micah moved further down her body running his mouth over every inch of her.

“You are mine baby.”
Groaning he pushed her legs apart and took her into his mouth. Growling, Micah began to tease her slowly running his tongue over her gently loving the moan it elicited from her. He sucked gently and felt her leg muscles tighten. Glancing up he was struck by her beauty at that moment. She had clutched the pillow with both hands had her head thrown back and her back arched. But most of all, it was the look of pure abandonment that had him pause.

H
e continued to suck and slowly lick her until he felt her legs begin to shake. Watching the pleasure move across her face was almost his undoing, he needed her.

Panting Katlyn tangled her hands in his hair and pulled him over her sealing her mouth to his. “Make love to me Micah.”

Opening her eyes she looked into his as he pushed inside of her, melding her soul with his. At that moment she could feel him, could feel his love, his need, his restraint all mix and combine with hers. Gasping at the need coursing through her body she clutched him to her raking her nails across his back.

“Yes Micah. Oh God.”

Micah slowly moved inside of her, gentle but deep; slowly taking everything she was offering. Kissing her softly he looked into her eyes as she tightened around him, “Yes baby, Come for me.”

He wrapped his arm around her waist pulling her closer to him, pushing h
imself deeper, “Come for me.”

He could feel her on the edge, almost there. Slowly, aching to feel her clench around him he fused his mouth to hers and opened his mind to hers.

Katlyn felt the intrusion of his thoughts and moaned against his mouth, it was too much; it wasn’t enough. She was on the edge needing, wanting. Somehow in the seconds that followed he was one with her. She melded to him and gasped at the overwhelming sensation of being herself and being completely merged with him at the same time.

Screaming his name she crashed over the edge taking him with her. Micah felt her clench around him and pumped harder feeling himself grow within her and pushed deep then stilled. She was still clenching around him, draining him as he came hard inside of her. He simply held on, he couldn’t stop, couldn’t pull away.

Slowly Katlyn felt herself separate slowly from Micah, mentally and physically. Every time they made love it was more intense than the last.

“Micah?” That had been amazing, but scary. Never had she lost all control like that before.

Micah looked up at her and pushed the hair off of her face, “I didn’t hurt you did I?”

“No. You wouldn’t hurt me.” Katlyn smiled and held him close to her. They were still tangled closely together and she did not want to come out and into the real world just yet.

Turning to his side Micah pulled her against him slowly running his hand over her body. His Niflet had become so much a part of him in such a short time. Looking back he thought of how it could have all changed as quickly as it had.

W
hen planning his trip he had only been looking for a mate. He had never assumed he would find a woman that would capture his soul the way she had. He had planned on finding a woman that could have children, one that he was compatible with, but he never thought it would affect his soul the way that it had. Looking into her eyes he smiled, “I am so glad I have found you Niflet.”
Katlyn smiled at him, “I am glad you did too. I can’t imagine a life without you.” Kissing him softly she pulled back slightly.

“Micah, w
hen I went to the clinic I found out that Maria has found a way to fertilize the donated eggs.”

Micah ran a hand down her arm and laced his fingers with hers, “What does that mean?”

Katlyn grasped his hand, “It means that she has now implanted the eggs into your sisters. It will take a month or so to see if they take but you may also become an Uncle in the next few months. But, please don’t tell your family. We need time to see if it will take.”

Micah pulled her hand up to his mouth kissing her hand. “I will not breathe a word, it is their story to tell. You have made all of this possible. You have been such a blessing, not only to me but to the family.”

“Micah, I am simply sharing what I have with the people I love; nothing more. Don’t make me into a saint.” Katlyn cupped his jaw and smiled into his beautiful grey eyes.

Micah rolled her onto her back and gave her a sexy come hither look, “Oh sweetheart, I know you are not a saint.”

Katlyn laughed outright, “You are incorrigible.”

Kissing her softly Micah leaned up, “Are you ready to face the family? They are going to want to celebrate once we tell them.”

“Is it already dinner time? We have been up here awhile.” Katlyn chuckled, “I need to stop dragging you away for play time. I think we are the private joke of the family.”

Micah chuckled, “They are very confused by us.”

Katlyn ran her fingers over his bicep loving the feel of his skin against hers. “Why are they confused?”
