Heat Wave (California Bears #1) (2 page)

Callie heard the soft beep of her cell phone. Is it Marlow? She wondered. Marlow usually left around this time to do a shift at her waitressing job.

She received a text. And read it.

Callie,

Let me make it up to you. I'm sorry you had to see that side of me. Come with me to the fair tonight.

—Rogue

Does he
really
think taking me to ride on a Ferris wheel is really going to make me forget the fact that he's a FREAKIN' BEAR! Callie asked herself. She may have been a bit naive, but she wasn't stupid enough to put herself at risk again. Rogue could have gotten them both killed, because he liked to chase the thrill of an adrenaline rush.

Callie's cell buzzed again.

"Don't call me again, Rogue. After last night, I don't trust myself with you..."

"Last night, I saved your life. Doesn't that count for something?"

Callie wasn't convinced.

"What are you? What do you want with me?" She asked slightly raising her voice.

"I'm a were-bear, I was raised in clan up in the valley. But I didn't want to follow in my father's footsteps and become the next alpha. That's when I packed everything I owned and came to L.A. I prefer city life to living wild in the forest. That's the truth. There's are
a lot
of shifters working here in Hollywood."

All of this sounded crazy to Callie. It's no question she had feelings for Rogue,
but should she give him another shot?

"Fine, but I want to hear more about what's going on with you..." Callie insisted. If Rogue could see past her obvious imperfections, Callie figured she should at least try to see past his.

"Alright, I'll see you tonight. Wear something hot and sexy," Rogue growled.

Wha?
Callie thought. She wanted to say something but Rogue had already hung up.

C
allie wore cowboy boots and a flowy crochet dress. Rogue showed up with his thick hair slicked back, wearing a tight white t-shirt and of course his white leather jacket. Callie loved the smell of freshly popped popcorn and cotton candy right at her fingertips. Rogue bought her some cotton candy and handed it to her.

"Why are you always wearing that thing?" Callie asked, eyeing the outline of his abs through his shirt.

"It's my brother's. Thrash gave the jacket to me before he died," Rogue answered plainly. Rogue wasn't the type to have any airs about him. He lived by a simple code and placed loyalty and honor above most everything else.

Callie reeled back. "I'm sorry to hear about your brother. What happened? how did he die?"

"Like me, he liked to push the limits...he rode his motorcycle over Death Gorge and never made it to the other side."

Callie didn't understand. "If you're brother died of a motorcycle crash, why would you dare be a stuntman for a living?"

Rogue shrugged. "I think it's how I keep the memory of my brother, Thrash alive. He inspired me to become a stuntman. He inspired me to live on the edge. Haven't you ever taken a risk, even though you knew it was crazy?"

Rogue had a strong sense that Callie had been mostly sheltered her whole life. Callie never considered it before. She hadn't had anything tragic happen to her like losing her family.

"Enough talking let's go ride some rides," Rogue grinned, taking Callie's hand.

She and Rogue scrambled on the bumper cars, jumped on the Ferris wheel and did a few loops on the merry-go-round. Callie saw the fun house not far away from them.

"I'll race you!" she shouted, speeding a head.

"
You're crazy!
You can't beat a bear in a foot race..." Rogue roared at her back. Callie laughed hysterically as the two of them entered the fun house together. Large mirrors surrounded them from every angle.

Callie swiveled around and saw a mirror and stared at herself in it. Rogue could tell she was looking at her imperfections.

"What could you possibly see in me?" Callie asked half aloud.

Rogue got tired of talking, instead he wanted to quench his aching need. He pulled Callie close to him and took her in his mouth, sucking on her lower lip.

"Wait. Wait. This is just moving way too fast," Callie breathed, feeling Rogue's rough hands grope her hips.

"I've seen the way you look at me, Callie. You practically undress me with your eyes..." Rogue growled, letting his hands drift up to the bottom of her shirt and ripping it off of her body. Callie hitched a breath, as Rogue forced her down on the hay covered floor.

He pinned her underneath his weight while he slunk each arm out of his leather jacket. With both hands, Rogue eased out of his tight white shirt. Callie could fully see his abs in the warm lighting.

"What if someone walks in, we've got to
stop
this..." Callie pushed against Rogue's hard abs. She then let her fingers drift down his hard curves.

"Well, we better give them a damn good show," Rogue grinned then kissed her again. He wore a small crucifix around his neck and it pressed into Callie's skin when he started, kissing down her neck.

"I'm serious, Rogue."

Rogue grunted, annoyed wishing Callie would unleash her wild side.

"Callie, stop being so afraid of what other people think...be a daredevil for once in your life..."

The hay on the floor started itching her back, and Callie giggled. Rogue's cocky smile disappeared from his face when he, unhooked Callie's bra. Callie arched up her back, feeling the sweaty heat of Rogue's chest. Rogue briskly took Callie's hard nipples in his mouth, urging her to unbutton his pants. Callie felt an ecstasy of the kind she never had before. She let goes of all her fears and worries and simply let Rogue roughly take her. With all of his strength, Rogue flipped her on her elbows and knees so he could get a better look at her luscious curvy ass.

Callie tried to relax, but was terrified he'd see all of her cellulite. Rogue groped her ass again, plunging his face into her pussy and deeply inhaling the scent of her sex.

Callie desperately wanted Rogue to touch her. Control her.
Fuck her.

Rogue drew out his cock and slid it against her pussy, teasing her for as long as she could stand.

"Please..." Callie begged.

Rogue sat on his knees, forcing Callie to sit on him. Callie moaned when she felt his thick cock easing inside her. Callie slid her heat up and down Rogue's pulsing shaft. Callie clenched her eyes shut when he shamelessly ravished her breasts. Callie felt the soothing heat of Rogues sweat pooling down her back. Rogue groaned as he forged his cock inside her as if he were trying to rut a claimed mate.

Callie's heart beat rapidly, nervously like any second it would stop. Rogue groaned louder, bending her forward and coming deeply inside her. Callie's hips rocked back on Rogue's thick cock as she came kneeling in front of him.

Voices echoed from outside the fun house.

"
Shit!
" Callie cried.

Sweat poured down both of their bodies, Callie weakly tried to wrangle on her clothes. Rogue haphazardly wrapped her shoulders with his leather jacket. Callie broke into a fit of giggles as they both ran out of the exit. Rogue held her against him, like he'd never let go.

Chapter Five

R
ogue cleaned himself in a nearby lake in the morning. He and Callie had fallen asleep outdoors—in the deserted L.A. valley. Callie fluttered her eyes open, eyeing Rogue in his hulky and shaggy werebear form. He twisted the bulk of his wet body to shake off the excess water. Callie pulled Rogue's lucky leather jacket closed as she carefully approached the wild amber-eyed beast.

Rogue veered around, shifting his weight. Callie could feel his hot breath as he nuzzled his snout into her tangled curly hair. Rogue was almost puddy in Callie's arms. No more dangerous than a gentle giant. He licked Callie's face with his wide flat tongue.

"Uh...okay," she laughed. "Rogue if you're in there, I need to talk to you...seriously." Callie summoned.

The first thing to vanish was the bear's thick shaggy fur until all that stood before Callie was a naked muscular man.

Callie released a sharp breath when Rogue placed his rough hand on her cheek.

"What's the matter? You ready for me to
rut
you again?"

Callie blushed a little embarrassed. "No, it's not that. I want to talk about your stunts. Why can't you just stop and try something else?"

Rogue fell silent, twisting his naked back to Callie. He'd been working too hard to break his brother's record. There was no way in hell he'd dare stop now.

"
We've been over this.
I'm not gonna stop not until I make the same jump my brother did and succeed."

"You've got nothing to prove. Not to me—not to
anyone
. Why can't you just let it go?" Callie begged, she feared that Rogue wouldn't stop making death defying jumps at Death Gorge. She knew that rush of adrenaline is too addictive to just stop cold turkey.

"I don't know if I can let myself fall in love with a man that puts his life at risk day after day..." Callie expressed.

Rogue started to get dressed, pulling his snug jeans on one pant leg at a time.

"So, what are you trying to say? You want to end this before it just began?" Rogue just came out and said.

"I can't, Rogue. I can't stay," she said picking up her things and walking off.

Rogue still stood there his body exposed to wild, watching Callie walk off in the distance until he could no longer see her.

Chapter Six

A
udition after audition, Callie still wasn't able to snag even the smallest parts. She and Marlow had lunch at a sushi place on the Los Angeles pier.

"So, where's this hot n' sexy boyfriend, I've been hearing so much about? You haven't brought him over to our place. What is he some kind of werewolf or a vampire?" Marlow joked, not realizing how close she was to getting it right.

"Yeah sorta..." Callie mumbled. "We kinda broke up..."

Marlow squinted her eyes, not sure if Callie was just joking.

"You guys just got together and you're already headed towards
splitsville
? What the heck happened?" Marlowe asked.

"Rogue wants to treat his life like a toy, and expects me to stand there and watch it."

"But you knew when you two started banging... that he was a stuntman."

Callie hit Marlow in her arm. Marlow always had to be so crass.

"Yeah, so?" Callie replied.

"So—" Marlow repeated. "You fell in love with a dark and dangerous bad boy and now you're upset that he's
actually
a dark and dangerous bad boy?"

Callie never thought of it that way. Sure, when she met Rogue the bad boy thing attracted her, but his good heart is what made her stick around.

"Rogue Stockton can do anything, so why does he have to do the one thing that puts his life in danger, huh?" Callie declared, slapping her hands on the side of the table. Her heart raced uncontrollably with the idea she could ever be accused of being a hypocrite.

"Because, Callie. It's his life to do as he pleases. Isn't that also the reason you came looking for fame in Cali?" Marlow pointed out.

Callie turned her head to the side and pretended she wasn't listening. She knew that in a few days he'd have his big jump stunt over Death Gorge and didn't know how to stop it.

Marlow ate the last piece of sushi on the plate.

"All I'm saying is, don't give up so easily. I haven't seen you this happy in I don't know how long. Happiness is a good look on you," Marlow said.

Callie only shrugged not sure what to say. She knew Rogue was going to have his big rehearsal for his stunt tomorrow.
But was she going to be there?

Chapter Seven

C
allie woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of a motor rumbling outside her loft door. The first thing she saw when she peered through her window is a white leather jacket. Rogue's eyes glowed red in the dark. Callie pulled on her favorite t-shirt and slipped on a pair of flip flops before marching outside.

"You
couldn't
call?" Callie asked arching a brow. But she guessed she couldn't expect a werebear to know much about common decency.

"It's not like you would have picked up anyways," Rogue grunted, getting off of his bike and standing close to Callie.

Before she could say anything. Rogue grabbed her face with both hands and sucked her tongue in his mouth. Callie felt her skin getting hot, starved to feel Rogue's heat again.

She shoved him away, knowing that if things got too intense the ache she felt would become too unbearable.

"Nothing's changed, Rogue. You made it perfectly clear that you care more about jumping the gorge than you care about me..." Callie sassed, folding her arms across her chest.

Rogue could hardly keep down his craving to inhale Callie's scent and taste the warmth of her heat. Callie wasn't wearing a bra underneath her t-shirt, and to Rogue, the sight of her breasts were undeniably tantalizing.

Rogue grabbed the back of Callie's hair, tilted her head back and parted her lips for his tongue. Callie's nipples pressed up against Rogue's hard chest. His eyes yearned to take it much further, but Callie's sense told her to stop.

She squeezed past him, unraveling from Rogue's hot-blooded embrace.

"You can't just show up here in the middle of the night expecting to use me as your booty call..." Callie rolled her eyes, dashing back up the stairs.

Rogue charged after her and grabbed her curvy hips as Callie braced herself on the railing. He then slipped one finger into her moist panties and started massaging her clit. Callie moaned arching her back up against Rogue's chest as he slowly plunged one finger, then two, into Callie's wet pussy. The two of them fucked each other right where any of Callie's neighbors could see her.

Rogue didn't care. As a werebear, he possessed zero shame about when and where he wanted to claim his mate. Callie hitched a breath when he slipped his fingers out of her. No matter how pissed off she got at him, Rogue drove her literally insane whenever he got too close to her. Rogue shoved down his jeans his insatiable need urging him to fuck. Pre-cum dribbled down the head of his cock before he drove his shaft inside Callie's eager heat.
