Drawn To You (Paloma's Edge) (30 page)

Epilogue

Two months later

Chase

I
licked the cute little birthmark on Beth’s right shoulder. Jumping, she seized my wrists and pressed her backside against me. After football practice was over, I’d taken a shower at the gym and drove over to my new apartment to take another one. The best part about arriving at my new place was that Beth had already been there.

“I
didn’t get a chance to see how beautiful the view was the first time you brought me here,” Beth said playfully.

“I just think that’s because you were in a state of undress and you lowered my defenses.”

A grin graced her face.

She
pressed her lips together as my cell rang inside the hotel room. I let go of Beth and went inside. I picked a call from a number I didn’t recognize.

“Chase.”

“Mom?”

When I slid my gaze to the side, Beth was beside me.

“Your father will be home soon but, uh,” she whispered in her cultured voice, “a-are you situated?”

Yes, Mother,” I answered, surprised by the question. “Have you been the one calling me?”

“I
didn’t know what to say.” She sounded nervous.

I sucked in a shrill breath and
Beth squeezed my hand. “Something happen?”

My mom audibly swallowed. “Has Hunter found you?”

“Yes.”

“Is he well?”

“You found me, so I am sure you know how Hunter’s doing.”

“I-I just…”

“He’s doing okay,” I told her.

“Do you have what you need?”

I eyed the worry that flickered over Beth’s beautiful face. I sent her a reassuring smile.

“I have everything I need.”

Mom ended the call. I pulled Beth into my arms. I had everything I needed and more.
