Zombie Elementary Kaelor's Perspective (5 page)

I grabbed her hand and shook my head.

“Anybody know the
way to the detention center?” Edmund asked.

“I do.” Blake said in a faint voice.

We all turned to look at him.

“I went to the detention center once, for stealing.

One day, they decided to teach me a lesson by making me spend a few nights there.  Trust me, I learned my lesson.
That’s not a place I really want to go to ever again.” Blake said while looking at the sky.

Could this be the Blake Taftertock that was put on the news for stealing?

“You’re Blake Taftertock?” Aoi asked as she lifted an eyebrow.

Blake nodded.

“You’re the Blake Taftertock, who stole from Jonathon Quilt?” asked Edmund.

“Yup” said Blake while nodding his head.

“The big shot gangster?” asked Paige.

“Yup-o” he said while kicking a pebble.

“Wow” I said ruffling his hair.

“It was still stealing.” Blake said while pressing his index fingers together.

“I’m surprised that cameras were actually able to help prove your explanation. I expected kids like you to lie all the time” Kaelinda said while looking at her nails.

“Well, anyway, let’s stop fooling around and Blake, please lead the way!” Edmund said.

Blake walked ahead as he gestured us to follow.

I pushed through everyone to be able to talk to Blake as he led us down the street.  There were a few walking corpses just wandering the streets.

Well I couldn’t talk to Blake now, it was so quiet if I so much as sighed, I could have attracted a zombie.
I think he was

leading us to that back road, which leads out of town. I can’t remember how many times I would see that road when I had to take the city bus somewhere around this area, or past it.

We were walking at a normal pace, until I heard a sniffing sound.
I turned to look down the road, and I saw a zombie standing still, sniffing the air.  I gulped.  Then the zombie looked in our direction on the sidewalk.  We all stopped moving.

I held my breath while my heart was beating ferociously inside of my chest.

The Zombie looked for a minute, and then turned to go about his business.

I wiped a drop of sweat off my face.

Blake continued walking and we all followed.

This is going to be a long walk. I thought to myself.

***

I was panting because we ended up having to outrun a pack of zombies.  If this were a race, Aoi and I would be tied.

I wiped the sweat off of my forehead.

Once Blake got back in front of us, he led us further down the dirt road.  We had to outrun the pack of zombies because Mari wouldn’t stop complaining about water, and her feet aching.  So after we grew tired of her complaining, we stopped at a gas station and picked up some water bottles and snacks. Then, like a dummy, Edmund yelled for us to come out, forgetting that

there were a large amount of zombies in that area.

I kissed my teeth, as I recalled all of that.  On the bright side, at least
Aoi’s clinch sack was able to hold the water and some of the snacks.

“Hurry up ladies! We have at least five miles left,” Blake said quietly yelling from where he was standing.

I began walking. “FIVE MILES!?!?!? HE
MUST
BE CRAZY!”

“Calm down, worry princess, the detention center can’t be THAT far away,” Aoi said patting my back in between my ranting.

She must have seen the expression on my face.

Edmund kissed his teeth and jogged next to Blake.

“Hold up!” Lequisha yelled.

I stopped walking and turned around and looked to Lequisha.

Lequisha was on the ground, panting hard while holding her chest.

“What’s wrong?” Hana-yon asked while patting her back.

“I-I, I have, I h-h-have, a-a-asthma” Lequisha panted out.

Suddenly, I saw a purple and navy blue color flash by me and stopped by Lequisha.

It was Kaelinda.

“Ok stand up for me please.” Kaelinda asked while helping Lequisha up.  She was struggling to stand up.

When Lequisha caught her balance, Kaelinda said, “Can you breathe?  Are you having trouble breathing?  Do you want someone to carry you?”

“I, I, I’m h-h-having tr-trouble breathing” Lequisha said while struggling to breathe.

“Ok, do you want someone to carry you; do you think you can make it to the detention hall?” Kaelinda asked.

“I don’t think, I can make it.  I-I think I want someone, t-to carry me” Lequisha said in a low whisper.

“Edmund, carry Lequisha!” Kaelinda said giving Edmund a very commanding look.

“Ugh! Fine, but the next person who falls out is not being carried by me!”

Edmund said while squatting down to let Lequisha climb on his back.

Lequisha climbed on to Edmund’s back.  Once she was on, he began walking on.

I turned back around to see Blake staring in Edmund’s direction.  I don’t know why but then he turned around and started walking again.

We followed behind him. After what seemed like hours, Blake yelled “That was one mile, four left to go!”

I shrugged and wiped some sweat off of my forehead and continued walking.  Aoi to my right with Kaelinda, while Edmund was to my left with Paige.

Mari, and Kohaku were next to Blake.

“Well, it’s the end of the world, so I’ll start a conversation. Who was your crush?  Mine was Roro, a.k.a. Ramón” Kaelinda said while staring at the sky not speaking to anyone in particular.

The sun was going to go down in a couple of hours.

“My crush was Nathaniel in Mr. Agi’s class. He was really nice to me, and he was so hot” Paige said still facing forward.

“My crush is Edmund, but you all know that already” I said smiling at Edmund.

“My crush was Tamaki. He was nice, a little daring, but hot” Aoi said.

“I don’t think he likes girls. He told Edmund that he liked him.” I said waving my finger in the air.

“He was?
Edmund he asked you out?” Aoi replied as she gave me and Edmund a confused look.

“Yup” Edmund said looking forward.

“Oh, and I thought he was into me.” Aoi said sadly.

“He was, but I guess as a friend.  I told her.

“My crush was Louie from Ms. Chuchia’s class.  He was always staring at me and after a while we started talking and hanging out together.   Plus, his mom knew my mom so, yeah” Hana-yon said while putting a tiny braid in her hair.

“My crush, my crush was… man, I had a lot of crushes that crumbled and then newly formed.
My first crush, was Silla. She was the prettiest girl I saw. Her long black hair was so shiny, and her eyes are a pretty blue, but she did have a little anger problem, so I kind of left her alone.

Then, I started to like Ari.  She had the prettiest face I had ever seen.  Her brown eyes were very mysterious.  Oh, and her hair was short, dark brown, and beautiful.  She was just annoying.  So, I slowly got over her.  But then I started to like Gianna. Her beautiful blonde hair, always swung around gracefully. I’m not going to lie, her hair really brought out her green eyes. She was too arrogant, so I just assumed she’d reject me. The last crush was Roxanna. Her black hair and brown highlights always looked nice with the size of her face and the color

of her eyes.  She dressed with a high fashion sense, and she had a neutral personality.  I never bought myself to ask her out because she started crushing on some other kid.  So now, I have no crushes, whatsoever” Edmund said like he was telling his life story.

“So whose class were they in?” I asked a little upset I wasn’t on his list.

“Oh, they were in Ms. Chuchia’s class” Edmund replied.

I punched him in his arm.

“That was another mile!” Blake said.

My feet were aching.

“Can I have water?” Mari rudely asked while still looking forward.

Aoi took off her clinch sack, opened it, and pulled out a water bottle.  She threw it toward the back of Mari’s head. It hit the back of Mari’s head.

We started to snicker.

Mari yelled.  “Ouch!”  Then she turned around with an angry face and snatched the water bottle off of the ground. She opened it and then took a sip.

“So, you didn’t have any hidden feelings for any of us?” Paige asked Edmund, breaking the silence.

“Nope.”  Edmund said while smiling.

“What are you smilin’ for?” Kaelinda said while turning to look at Edmund.

“Just had a memory” Edmund said while snickering.

“You had a memory of what?” Aoi said while bobbing her head in an inquisitive manner.

“When Kaelor asked me out. It was funny.” Edmund said while he nodded his head.

“What’s so funny about that?” I asked while frowning.

“Chillax Kaelor, it was just the way that I remember you saying it, and the look on your face was priceless!” Edmund replied while laughing in between words.

I frowned even harder. I remember when I asked him out. Was it really that bad?  Well, at least I know that I’m not very good at hiding embarrassment in my face.

“What was funny about it?” Aoi asked.

“Kaelor’s voice, her voice, was so funny. It was high pitched and squeaky when she said certain words. Her face, her face was very red, and she had her eyes facing every other direction, except me.” Edmund said before laughing.

“It was funny but, she’s the first girl who asked me out face to face.” Edmund said while calming his laughter.

“Another mile,” Blake said.

“Only two miles left?” Kohaku asked Blake.

“Yup, pretty much. When we outran those zombies, we pretty much ran a good three miles, and we already walked two miles.
So with the three miles we just walked, now we have two left. Or more, I

think
I forgot” Blake replied as if it was nothing new.

“What!?” all except Blake said.

“Calm the heck down!  I just can’t remember if the place was a little farther away” Blake said calmly.

“That’s still serious Blake.  If we walked all the way to the middle of nowhere, you just put us all in danger of starving or getting bit by a zombie!” Hana-yon said with a disapproving look.

“Well, that’s what I get for following a good for nothing fourth grader” Edmund said shaking his head.

“Hey!” Blake, Lequisha, Kohaku and Mari said.

“Well, he’s not lying. Fourth graders are good for nothing.” I said remembering the time I was in fourth grade and how excluded we were from everything.

“How?
How are fourth graders good for nothing?” Kohaku asked.

“When I was in fourth grade at my old school, we
NEVER
attended the assemblies, concerts, or any event.  Plus, the teachers always wanted volunteers below or above the fourth grade level” I said remembering when the teacher rejected my offer to help her.

“Oh, you us
ed to live in the U.S.A. Are the schools there like that?” Kaelinda asked.

“Oh…
,no. I replied.

“Wow, I wish
I went to fourth grade there.” Kaelinda said.

We all became silent again for a little while.
“So, anyone here know how to cook?” Blake asked.

“Me, I know how to cook” Kaelinda replied.

“Oh, so what dishes do you cook?” Mari asked while giving an evil grin.

“Oh, I cook things like niwatori curry towtows, butaniku pepper sticks, cakes and

other
things that have a simple and easy directions” Kaelinda replied.

Niwatori curry Towtow, is basically boneless chicken thighs grinded and cooked.  It’s covered with curry and tow seasoning from the Towtow plant, and served on a long toothpick. While butaniku pepper sticks is pork grinded, shaped up to look like sticks, while they are seasoned good, with pepper, and lightly seasoned with salt, Towtow plant, Teetee plant, and bread crumbs.
