Billionaire Vince Buchanan is all about his wife, Emma, but when the last few weeks of pregnancy has Emma on edge, and the East Coast Buchanans are a constant source of irritation, Vince has to find a way to remind his pretty wife that she’s the love of his life.

But sometimes things never go quite as planned.

And that’s the best part.

Dear Reader,

I really love the Buchanans and it’s so easy to slip back into their world even though it’s changed from its original incarnation. The West Coast Buchanans are family men, devoted to their women and children (my, how things change!) but I think they’re even sexier than before. Vince is my favorite and I think a fan favorite as well. I was happy to write a small companion piece for the Buchanan series to kick off the new Buchanan novellas coming soon.

If you’re a fan of the series, I hope you enjoy catching up with Emma and Vince; if you’re new to the series, I invite you to check out the preceding books in the series.

Either way, enjoy!

Warmly,

Alexx Andria

“I’m as big as a house.”

Vince grinned at the plaintive comment made by his majorly pregnant wife, Emma, and pulled her into his arms, even as she protested about being bigger than the sun and likely to crush him.

He didn’t know what she was talking about — his wife was hot. “What’s not to like about bigger tits?” he asked, nonplussed as he squeezed her ass, filling his hands with that beautiful, plump flesh.

Everything about his wife was round and lush, which he found incredibly erotic. “And this ass…God damn woman, you’re killing me. I can’t keep my hands off you.”

Emma blushed but smiled as she allowed his hands to roam. “Well, there’s definitely more of me to love,” she admitted with a bit of exasperation. “But this baby is killing my bladder.” And then with a groan, she broke away to walk to the bathroom.

“I hate to see you leave but I love to watch you go,” he called out with an unabashed leer as she gasped and shut the door behind her.

At nine months pregnant, Emma was ready to be done but Vince loved everything about her pregnancy, including the bonus of watching her boobs grow twice their regular size.

She emerged from the bathroom with an unhappy frown and he wished he could do something to make her smile.

“Are you okay, sweetheart?” he asked as she sat beside him on their bed. “You truly are beautiful to me, you know that, right?”

“I do,” she answered with a sigh. “I just feel frumpy and ugly. It’s not you, it’s me. They should tell you that third trimester is no picnic.” She stared down at her belly. “My body is never going to be the same.”

“You’re right,” he agreed and she swung a wounded gaze his way and he brushed a kiss across her lips. “It’s ten times better than before. That’s my baby in there. That’s the hottest thing I’ve ever known. At this rate, I might keep you barefoot and pregnant for the rest of our lives.”

Emma gasped and swatted at him. “Don’t even joke like that! By the way I feel, this might be our
only
child.”

“Not a chance, hot stuff,” he growled, pulling her back on the bed. She fell, laughing, as he rained kisses down her neck, hitting her secret spots without mercy.

She squealed, her delighted giggles like raindrops on his heart. He reluctantly stopped, sighing when he realized the time. Sometimes this ‘responsible adult’ gig was a real buzzkill. “Dillon’s expecting me at the office,” he said, helping her sit up. “You going to be okay by yourself?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I be? I’m not suddenly made from spun sugar. I’ll be fine. Besides, according to the doc, I’ve got four more weeks, at least,” she said, groaning. “I really don’t know how that’s possible. There is nowhere else for this baby to go and my back has been killing me for days.”

He hated leaving her alone, though. Added to the fact that he was nervous about her going into labor when he wasn’t around, his cousin Sutton was still in town and he didn’t trust Sutton with the care of a potted plant, much less his pregnant wife.

Emma, on the other hand, hated when he hovered and reacted with a growl when he tried. “I won’t be long,” he promised, still dragging his feet even as his watch told him he was already late. “Make sure you have your cell with you at all times, no matter where you are in the house.”

Emma graced him with a look that said,
you’re doing it again
, and he shut up. “Don’t worry about me,” she said with a yawn. “I think a nap is on my agenda today.”

“A nap is a great idea,” he agreed. “Take a rest. Maybe read a book. Do you need anything while I’m out?”

Emma paused to think then brightened, saying, “Can you get me some of those pecan chocolatey things that you brought home the other night? I might’ve eaten the whole can already. Don’t judge me,” she tacked on with a faint scowl.

“You can eat a can a day if that’s what you want,” he assured her. “Anything else?”

She shook her head and rubbed her belly, suddenly changing her mind with a resolute shake of her head.

“Nope. Not the pecans. If I eat more of those I won’t be able to get through the door. How about some strawberries? Or grapes! Yes, grapes. But not the green ones, the big purple ones.”

The ones that were out of season and incredibly hard to find? “You got it. Grapes and strawberries.”

“Thank you,” she purred with pure happiness and he melted a little. He’d do anything for his woman.

There wasn’t anything she could ask for that he wouldn’t jump to get for her, even if it meant flying fresh fruit in from the tropics.

Nothing was too good for his lady. And that precious little bundle currently giving Emma perpetual heartburn.

He lowered to kiss her soundly and then, because Dillon would have his balls if he didn’t show up in the next half hour, grudgingly left for the office.

Emma waited for the sound of the front door closing and then waited another five minutes after that.

She thought he’d never leave!

Slowly swinging her legs over the bed, she slipped into her boots and threw on a coat. She hadn’t lied — a nap was surely on her agenda — but she had other things to do first.

It was hard keeping secrets from a husband who refused to give her a moment of private time!

Vince was the most attentive husband — too attentive sometimes — and his heart was in the right place but he was driving her nuts.

She wasn’t accustomed to being treated like a vase teetering on the edge of total destruction. But in Vince’s mind, being pregnant meant Emma had to be wrapped in bubble wrap and tucked away in a closet for safe keeping.

And she was going out of her mind.

She grabbed her cell and called her sister, Lana. “Are you ready? I can be there in ten minutes,” she said, forgoing the usual pleasantries. She only had so much time before Vince hurried his fine ass home and she wasn’t about to get caught.

“Are you sure you want to do this? Seems a little reckless,” Lana worried and Emma wanted to groan. Was everyone conspiring against her? “I mean, you are about to pop.”

“I’m well aware of that fact,” she ground out. “Just be ready.”

Lana sighed, clearly not a fan of Emma’s idea but resigned to helping her. “Okay, but if this blows up in your face, I’m going to relish telling you I told you so.”

“Fine. Oh, and one more thing, do not under any circumstances tell Laird. He’ll just run straight to Vince. Those two are worse than a bunch of girls.”

Lana chuckled. “Okay. See you in a few.”

Emma clicked off and stuffed her phone in her purse, sudden glee in her heart. Today was going to be awesome.

True to her word, within ten minutes Emma was pulling up to Lana and Laird’s place and Lana was waiting for her outside, shivering in the cold and wearing a displeased frown.

Emma waved her over. “Come on, let’s go. Time’s wasting!”

Lana hustled over to the car and climbed in. “I think this baby has addled your brain.”

“Maybe,” Emma agreed with good cheer. “But sometimes the best ideas are formed in a moment of lunacy. Kinda like when I went undercover at Malvagio. That was pure craziness and look how that ended up?”

“You mean the part where you got the shit beaten out of you and nearly raped? Yeah, good times,” Lana recalled with a snort of derision. “You have a whacked sense of adventure if that’s what you’re pulling as an example.”

“Yeah, but if all that bad stuff hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have met Vince and you know, yadda yadda, happy bliss, etc.”

“True but heckuva price, don’t you think?”

Emma refused to let Lana’s dour attitude ruin the day. “Okay, party pooper. Enough with the buzzkill. Vince is going to the office for a few hours and between now and then, I’m going to learn how to dance on that pole.”

Yes, she was take pole dancing lessons nine months pregnant.

Yes, it was crazy! Yes, she was probably going to look like an idiot but she couldn’t chase the idea from her head.

It was just something she had to do. Something sexy before she became consumed with another human being.

As if channeling her inner desperation, Lana said, “I’m still a little confused about why you’re doing this…”

“Once this baby gets here, my life will never be the same. Will I ever feel sexy again? I don’t know. Maybe not. I want to do something really sexy while I still can.”

“But your belly is in the way! You’re not even going to be able to reach the damn pole.”

Emma scowled. “A little encouragement would be nice,” she told Lana with a sniff. “Okay, so maybe I won’t be tipping upside down or anything but I can learn some moves!”

Lana sighed and graced Emma with a look that plainly said
you’ve lost your mind
before tentatively asking, “Is there something else going on? Are you and Vince okay?”

“We’re fine,” Emma reassured Lana but maybe there was a part of her that worried Vince wouldn’t find her sexy any longer after she’d pushed out his kid.

There were men who changed after seeing that. What if, after she gave birth, no longer saw her downstairs department as something desirable? She blushed, hating her own thoughts.

Was she being pathetic?

“I’m doing this for me.” And she was but there was the tiniest sliver of insecurity in her reasoning, too.

Lana smiled. “Okay. Just checking because by the looks of things Vince is more in love with you than ever before, not that I thought that was even possible,” she said dryly. “I mean, when the man looks at you, I’m not sure if he wants to love you or eat you.”

Vince had a way with his mouth, for sure
. Emma wisely kept her comment to herself.

“The problem isn’t Vince. He loves my pregnant body. It’s me. I just don’t feel sexy any more. I’ve always wanted to take a pole dancing class and I figure now is the time to do it before I lose my nerve. Admittedly, I probably could’ve picked better timing.”

“All right, as long as you know what you’re doing is a little borked I’ll go along for the ride. Besides, someone needs to be there to drive your ass to the hospital when you put yourself into labor trying to do the splits.”

Emma laughed, saying, “Don’t worry. I’ve been doing preggo yoga since the beginning so I’m pretty limber.”

“Oh goody.”

Heart light, Emma jumped onto the freeway.

This was not the best of news.

“What happened?” Vince asked, rubbing at his brows. “Everything was set to close.”

Dillon, irritated at the setback, tossed his pen to the desk. “Fucker pulled out at the last minute. Seems he had a change of heart about owning an underground sex club. Go figure.”
