Chapter Nine

Fiona rushed into the dining room just in time for breakfast, feeling on top of the world. She planted a quick kiss on Merokk’s cheek before taking her seat across from him. Breakfast was already spread on the table, an assortment of Kall fruit and, to her surprise, some traditional American breakfast food. “Pancakes, bacon, eggs? Really?” The cooks hadn’t served Earth food in this house once, not even when President Carson had visited.

“I’ve decided to make some changes around here.” He smiled and reluctantly placed a pancake on his plate, grimacing at it like a child staring down a plate of spinach.

Laughing, Fiona eagerly reached for the eggs and bacon. “It’s not so bad, I promise. A lot of your Kall food tastes quite similar to our native fair.” She winked and took a bite of bacon, and the crisp, burned meat suddenly reminded her of home—of her mother. She hoped Merokk would permit her to visit Janie, but she was nervous about broaching the subject. Two days had passed since he’d forgiven her for her part in the deception against him, and everything between them seemed perfect—almost like a fairy tale. Almost.

“Tell me what you’re thinking about.” Merokk stared at her expectantly.

“Nothing,” she said, grinning across the table at him. Dammit. She glanced down, avoiding his gaze and played with the food on her plate. To her relief, he didn’t press her for information. Hmm…maybe her acting skills were better than she realized. She almost smiled at the thought.

Breakfast was delicious, and Fiona savored every bite. The only times she’d eaten Earth food since leaving the horrible settlement had been at awkward White House dinners and the occasional lunch out with Layla. She took a sip of coffee and peered through her lashes at her husband. He cleared his throat and she placed her mug down, waiting for him to speak.

“I’m expecting a family member of mine to arrive this evening. Can you oversee the servant’s preparation of one of the guest rooms on the second floor? I want everything to be perfect.”

Her heart sank a little, but Fiona tried her best not to let it show. After all that had happened of late, she’d hoped for time alone with her husband. “How long will your relative stay with us?”

“Indefinitely. Is that a problem?”

She shook her head. “No, no, not a problem at all.” She forced a smile. “I’ll make sure everything’s ready.”

“Good. I have to leave now, but I’ll be home in time for dinner.” He stood and walked to her side of the table. Fiona accepted his gentle good-bye kiss and watched him leave.

She should’ve asked who the relative was. How stupid. Frustrated, she ran a hand through her hair and headed for the second floor. No sense bothering the servants. She was capable of preparing a guest bedroom without any help. After choosing the largest of the available rooms, she set about opening the heavy curtains at each window. Bright beams of sunlight spilled across the bedroom, and it was obvious no one had dusted here in quite a while. After fetching some cleaning supplies from the storage closet in the hallway, she set to work, happily humming and lost in thoughts of Merokk.

Hours later, an exhausted Fiona stripped her clothes off in the master bathroom on the third floor. She drew a bath and soaked her aching muscles for a good half hour. Everything was perfect with the guest room, just as Merokk had requested, but man oh man was she tired. She swirled her hands through the bubbles and wished a certain Kall warrior was in the tub with her. Aching muscles or not, she’d be all over him right now. Smiling, she drained the water and dried off. The Kall was insatiable, and nighttime was fast approaching.

She chose a simple long, silky gray dress. If a relative of Merokk’s was visiting, she wanted to show respect in traditional Kall colors, even if she wasn’t entirely in favor of the visit. After brushing out her hair and leaving it to its natural waves, she headed to the great room to await the imminent arrival of the guest but sincerely hoped her husband returned home first. She passed the time by daydreaming, letting her mind fall into memories both good and bad, and imagining how the circumstances of her life could’ve turned out otherwise if she’d made a different decision at this point or that point in her life. And what if her father hadn’t turned into a drunk? What would her life have been like if he’d helped her mother instead of blaming her for a disease she had no control over?

She sighed and stood up, pacing the room. It didn’t matter. He was likely dead. Even if he wasn’t and she knew his location, she wouldn’t make the faintest effort to contact him.

Glancing out the window into the garden, she smiled at the rose bushes growing among the plants native to the Kall homeworld. Another one of the changes Merokk had decided to make around here. All the pain, all the hard decisions in her life leading up to this point suddenly seemed worth it. The path of her life followed a road to Merokk. It didn’t bother her anymore that she was considered his property. Quite the opposite, in fact. She was proud to call herself his wife.

A noise behind her caught her attention. Praying it was Merokk, Fiona spun around. Her heart almost stopped beating. It couldn’t be
.
“Mom?”

Janie Lockhart beamed at her from across the room and rushed toward her with open arms. “Fiona, my dear.”

“Mom!” Fiona wrapped her arms around her mother. After so many months of worry, the woman she’d sacrificed much to protect was right here in her home.

She lifted her eyes, searching the room. There, by the door, stood her husband. She mouthed “thank you,” and he nodded before slipping into the hallway. As much as she wished he’d stay, she was grateful for the alone time with Janie. The two of them had much to talk about.

“You’re all right? The doctors treated you well at the hospital?” Fiona asked as they sank down on one of the couches.

Janie laughed and waved her hand dismissively in the air. “A hospital? Are you serious? The place I stayed at was like a five-star hotel—and it was right next to the beach. I hardly noticed the medical staff at all to tell you the truth. I spent most of my time worrying about you, though. I wish you could’ve told me where you were going.” The older woman squeezed her daughter’s hand.

A rush of guilt and sadness swept through Fiona. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t allowed to tell anyone where I was going. Did Merokk fill you in on the ride here?”

“Oh yes, dear. He’s a charming fellow. So polite—and handsome!” Her face grew somber. “He told me you did it for me. You didn’t have to do that, Fiona. We could’ve found a way to survive in the settlement. But I suppose it worked out for the best. All’s well that ends well.” She sighed and looked up at the ceiling and mumbled a few incoherent words followed by an “amen.”

Fiona almost laughed. She’d forgotten how dramatic her mother could be sometimes. “Come on, Mom, I’ll show you to your room. I think you’ll love it.”

* * *

“Is she all settled in her room?” Merokk met Fiona on the stairs as she emerged from the second -floor hallway. The light from the massive chandelier above the staircase caused her dress to shimmer like a silver sea reflecting the sun as she moved toward him. His gaze dropped appreciatively to the swell of her breasts and swept back to her eyes. His pulse quickened in anticipation of the night to come.

“Yes, she’s already asleep.”

“I was told she would be all right as long as she took her medicine and saw a doctor regularly. And I can summon my doctor if there are any emergencies. She should get along just as well here as in the medical resort.” He reached for Fiona’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. If he’d known her real name, he would’ve brought her mother here months ago
.
He didn’t voice this thought out loud—no sense scolding her again.

“I think she’ll get along better here. I have you to thank for that.” She slipped her fingers through his and closed their hands together. She grinned, the smile touching her eyes so they sparkled gorgeous and blue—completely happy for the first time since they’d met. His insides warmed knowing he was responsible for it, and he hoped it was a good omen for the days to come.

“So, a family member of yours, eh?” Playfully, she put her hand on her hip and raised one eyebrow. “You tricked me.”

“I only wanted to surprise you. You deserve to be happy.” His expression grew serious. “I want you to be happy, Fiona.”

“I am happy, Merokk.” She feigned the fakest yawn he’d ever seen and batted her eyelashes. “I’m also very, very tired.”

“Ready for bed, little one?”

Her smile faded, and her cheeks flushed bright pink as if on cue. She stared up at him, her eyes burning with a need only he could fulfill. Pulling at his hand, she tried to lead him up the stairs, but Merokk didn’t budge. “Hey, let’s go!”

“Such a needy little thing,” he mused, yanking her against his body so her back was pressed hard against his chest. Brushing her hair to the side, he nipped at her nape, drawing his teeth all the way around to her ear. “What do you think is going to happen when we get in the bedroom?”

She whimpered and rolled her head to the side, giving him better access to her neck as he continued his trail of love bites. His cock stiffened, and he ground it against her ass. He cupped her breasts in his hands, kneading them through the silky fabric of her dress. Breathing in the flowery scent of her hair, he slid one hand down her flat stomach and rubbed his palm against her pussy.

“Oh!” she gasped, and gyrated her hips against him. Her arousal reached his sensitive nose, causing his mouth to water. He would taste her soon, splay her perfect folds apart and lick her smooth insides.

“Upstairs, now,” he growled in her ear. He scooped her up in his arms and ascended the steps to the third floor. Once inside their bedroom, he made quick work of removing her clothing and restraining her arms and legs to the bed. He wanted to take his time playing with her pussy, especially the little nub hidden between those pretty folds. He loved to suck, bite, slap, and rub her clit until it became dark and swollen and she begged for release.

Merokk hurriedly undressed, tossing his clothes across the room. He straddled her waist and leaned down to capture her lips, his stiff cock pressing against the smooth flesh of her stomach. He fisted his hands in her hair, pulling her up to meet him as he thrust his tongue in to meet hers. She moaned delicately into his mouth, humming her desire and urging him to give her more. He broke away and stared into her eyes for a long moment, stroking his fingers through her silky hair. Bending down, his lips kissed a trail along her neck, all the way to her breasts. He teased her nipples until they became hard pebbles crowning her soft mounds, biting and flicking with his tongue until she thrashed her head about and pulled futilely at the restraints. He pushed two fingers into her wet cunt and pumped fast as his mouth descended on her clit.

“Oh!” she yelled, squirming beneath him.

Her breathing came in ragged gasps. The scent of her arousal beckoned him to continue the sweet torture of her pussy. He added a third finger and suctioned his mouth over her clit, forcing extra blood to rush into the hardened nub. She was beside herself, moaning and pleading for permission to come. He drew back, pulled his fingers out, and splayed her folds apart.
So fucking perfect.

“I love your pussy, Fiona.” He gathered juices from her core and brushed his wet fingers over her engorged clit. It pulsed under his touch, and he knew she was one calculated rub away from a mind-blowing release.

Positioning his hugely erect cock at her sopping wet entrance, Merokk pushed inside. He gave her a few quick thrusts before stilling and waiting for her to open her eyes. When she did, he swirled a digit around her clit until he felt her pussy clamping down on him as she came hard on his cock. Her hands twisted in the restraints, and a light sheen of sweat glistened on her body. A blissful expression crossed her face, and her eyes shut again as she fought to catch her breath. Wasting no time, he gripped her hips and began pumping with fast and deep strokes.

He glanced down and one look at her swollen clit protruding from the top of her folds was all it took to send him shooting over the edge. His cock jerked inside her as he spilled his seed, filling her up as electric jolts of pleasure sizzled between their bodies. He cursed in his own tongue as the last wave of his powerful release receded.

After taking a moment to recover, Merokk freed her from the restraints. He rubbed her wrists and ankles and hoped they didn’t bruise. She’d pulled against them hard enough to leave rings of red marring her pretty flesh. He kissed the marks and pulled her into his lap. Her eyes fluttered open, and she smiled.

“I love you,” she said, snuggling her head against his chest.

He stroked her hair and hugged her close. “I love you too, little one. You’re such a good girl.”
