Leela thought, taken aback by his question. “Are you always this direct?”

“Saves time,” Sam replied, taking a sip of his wine. “So, do you?”

Leela reached for her glass. “Depends on the situation. What makes you think I do?” She took another sip of the semi-dry wine appreciating the full-bodied taste as it coursed a warm path, smooth as silk to her stomach.

“You came over here ready to chew me out about the noise, but you changed your mind. You said you needed to go, but I know you really wanted to stay, and lastly you said no to wine, but I could see in your eyes you really wanted a glass.” Sam tilted his head in her direction. “Tell me I’m wrong.”

Leela put her fork down. “Wow. You’ve really put a lot of thought into your misguided observations.”

“Misguided, eh?” Sam chuckled as he took a sip of wine.

“You were friendly and apologetic when you came to the door so there was no reason to chew you out. And I hesitated when you offered me wine because it tends to give me a headache in the morning.”

“Tomorrow’s Saturday, you can sleep in.”

“Exactly, so I changed my mind,” she said, picking up her fork.

“And my guess that you really wanted to stay?”

Leela shrugged, twirling pasta around her utensil. “It’s just a guess.”
Like hell!
She wanted to stay the moment he opened the door. Lifting her glass, she took another sip, smiling as he laughed. “What?”

“You’re interesting, Leela. I’m glad we’re going to be neighbors.”

“Interesting?” she asked, finishing her plate.

“And beautiful. Do you want more?” he asked, already moving back into the kitchen.

“Umm…” She blinked, thrown off balance yet again by his directness. “I’m good. Thank you so much for dinner, Sam.” She stood, following his movements at the sink.

Her heart began to hammer in her chest when he turned to face her. She was seriously attracted to him, and she couldn’t remember the last time a man made her wet from simple conversation and friendly smiles.

“Are you sure?” he teased, pouring another glass of wine.

“What?” Leela asked distracted by her thoughts as she shot a curious glance in the direction of his bedroom. She met Sam’s gaze as he held up the bottle of wine. “Oh, no, I’m good, thanks again for dinner.”

“It was my pleasure. I always cook spaghetti and meatballs on Fridays, so keep that in mind,” he said, leading her back to the hallway.

“Fridays, right,” Leela repeated, following him to the door. She moved past him, stepping into the hall quickly. “Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Leela.”

Leela turned to meet his eyes, catching his knee-bending smile before he closed the door. She walked down the hall to her own door, smiling the whole way. Sam was a definite charmer and a damn good cook.

Images of his sexy grin and athletic body stayed with her as she undressed and slipped into bed. Could he kiss as well as he could cook? She couldn’t stop thinking about the passionate moans and soft cries of pleasure his lover had been unable to control the other night. No doubt, he knew exactly how to use his mouth on a woman’s body.

“Stop it,” Leela whispered, flipping on the television. She needed a mindless distraction and found one with a program all about home design, but her thoughts kept going back to Sam and her body’s smoldering reaction within his presence.
