To my three incredible loves, you are the reason my heart beats. Our love is magical; our love is infinite. My dreams come true through you.

“Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness. Know that, like life, things sometimes must fade before they can bloom again.”

"Even if love is full of thorns, I'd still embrace it for I know that in between those thorns, there is a rose that's worth all the pain."

Skylar

“Are you sure you’re feeling up to this?” Connie speaks in a soft voice as she holds my trembling hand.

“Yes, I’m sure.” I manage to speak through my sobs.

Even if it’s too late, I owe him this much.

Connie squeezes my hand as she steadies me, helping me walk closer to him.

“I’m going to let you have some time alone with him.” She releases my hand and leaves.

I’m not sure I can stand on my trembling legs for long, so I grab the rail of his bed.

Shock overtakes me and paralyzes me at the sight of him lying in front of me.
His handsome face looks so peaceful, even with the tubes still attached to him.

I’m dying now. My soul is officially broken.

When I touch his hand, the intense coldness of it sickens me. My tears trickle down and soak his hospital gown. Grief overtakes me. I fling myself down on top of him and break down. Every emotion rushes over me: shock, denial, and then anger. I scream through my tears at him. I scream at God for doing this to me. I scream at the thought of being left here without him.

“Oh God! Sebastian! How can I do this on my own? I love you! I need you! Our baby needs you,” I yell at his lifeless body before collapsing onto his chest.

The doors fly open. They will try to make me leave, but they’re going to have to force me. I look up over my shoulder and Lucas’ horrified emerald eyes lock onto mine. The pain in them flashes at me, and it hurts me to see it. All I have ever wanted was to fall in love and be loved, but instead, I do nothing but devastate people, hurt them. I close my eyes before dropping my head back down on Sebastian. When I glance up, warm amber eyes flutter open and stare at me.

“Skylar,” he whispers, his voice hoarse.

Sebastian

Everything hurts. Beeping noises grow louder and louder around me. God, they’re so relentless!
Wait!
If I can
hear
beeps, then I’m alive.

No! I don’t want to be here! I don’t want to feel anything.

“Oh, God, Sebastian! How can I do this on my own? I love you! I need you! Our baby needs you!” Her beautiful voice fills my ears.

Skylar is here?

What did she just say? Something about doing something on her own?

It takes everything in me, but I manage to open my eyes. The light is so damn bright, but the moment I blink, I lock eyes with her.

Sweet Jesus! Those fucking eyes!

“Skylar?” I manage to speak, and at my words, her face lights up.

“Oh, thank God!” She crashes her lips to mine.

For a moment, I am convinced I’m truly in heaven, but then intense pain radiates through my body, reminding me I am obviously in Hell. After I release an involuntary yelp, my beautiful girl pulls away from me and begins to apologize.

“Oh, I’m so sorry! Did I hurt you?”

“It’s okay,” I whisper, and then I witness those startling eyes fill again with tears. It takes every bit of energy I have to raise my hand and wipe them away.

“Don’t cry, Skylar. I’ll be all right.”

“Oh, Sebastian, I am so sorry for everything.” Sobbing, she drops her head back onto my chest. Her soft waves caress my chin, and I inhale her intoxicating cotton candy scent.

Goddamn! How I have missed this.

“I should have never lied to you!”

Her confession leaves me confused as shit. Maybe it’s the medicine or the pain in my head, but this girl isn’t making any sense right now.

“What are you talking about?”

She draws in a deep, shaky breath of air and then pushes off of me, locking eyes with me once more.

“The baby. I should have never lied to you about the baby, Sebastian.”

My heart drops. Everything rushes back to me all at once.

The baby.

She and Lucas are having a baby. Pain shoots through my chest, and I wonder why the hell I had to wake up! I can’t take any more torture in this life.

“I understand why you lied, Skylar. You don’t owe me anything.”
