Line of Scrimmage: A Secret Baby Sports Romance (Pass To Win Book 2) (9 page)

“That man. You shouldn’t have told him. You made a mistake!” her mother cried.

“Just shut up, please! It’s my life! If I made a mistake, I did. Not you. Stop interfering in my life. Stop it. It’s my life. My life!” Kayla yelled at the top of her lungs and I quickly and quietly exited the house. Wow! That was something.

I stopped before the fence to see Kayla opening a bottle of red wine and pouring it in a glass. She was rubbing her temples and her forehead. She was dead tired from the journey and her parents’ remarks about me and now this. She had to fight with them.

my third glass of the red wine and I was lightheaded. My vision was starting to get blurry but I steadied myself. After all, I knew how to drink.

I placed the glass on the nightstand next to my bed. It was nice sitting in my bed. It was like being a teenager again. My old posters were still there, the drawers and the notebooks and everything. Precisely as I had left it. But so much had happened since then. I wasn’t the same Kayla Vaughn whose only wish was to study law at Princeton University. Nah. That wasn’t me anymore. That was another Kayla in another time and another dimension. I found it hard to believe that I had been sleeping here.

It was night outside. Well past midnight, I guessed. I didn’t have a clock in here. There was a full moon outside illuminating the entire room. Small lights were surrounding it and blinking at me. The stars. I loved watching them.

Sighing, I heard footsteps. Then the doorknob turned and Sean entered.

“Can I come in?” he asked.

I chuckled. “You already did. But enter. It’s totally okay.”

“Thanks,” he said and chuckled himself.

It was then that I noticed that he was soaking wet. “What happened?” I voiced my thoughts. “You’re drenched!” He was dressed in a tracksuit that was all wet and stuck to his body.

“Ah, it’s nothing. I went for a jog and it started raining,” he explained and started laughing. I did, too.

He unzipped his jacket and put it on the chair. His white T-shirt was glued to his body, emphasizing his chest, his nipples and his abs. I inhaled. Every fiber of my body stirred at the sight of him. My sexy beast.

Involuntarily my feet carried me to him. I decreased the distance. We were breathing into each other now.

I hadn’t been with a man for so long and plus with Mia I couldn’t bring anyone home. The magic of the moment carried me and I started kissing him. Fiercely. Biting his lips.

“Ouch,” he said, wiping blood from his lips.

“Sorry,” I said.

“I don’t mind, babe. I want you,” he whispered and kissed me passionately. His tongue danced with mine as our hands fondled our bodies. I felt one of his hands on my neck and the other on my waist.

“I missed you,” I said. “Oh, I missed you so, so much.”

“You’re telling me.” He chuckled wickedly. “I’ve dreamt about this moment for so long.”

My fingers tore through the fabric of the T-shirt, splitting it in half.

“Whoa, babe!” He giggled. My hands roamed across his wet body which turned me on. As we kissed his hands were undressing me as well. Our clothes fell in a cluster to the floor.

We were in our underwear. I couldn’t help it but think of the last night we had had sex. The breakup sex. We were doing it again this time. And the both of us were bound to make it better.

“On the bed,” he whispered as his tongue licked my earlobe. I moaned. In return I grabbed his crotch to which he groaned.

“You didn’t expect that, did you?” I smiled deviously.

I was on the bed now, wiggling my butt as I lay on the sheets and spread my legs. Sean licked his lips. He started towards me, going slowly. Torturing me.

“Your parents are downstairs. They might hear us. Or Mia,” he said.

“No, they won’t. And I don’t care!” I replied. All I cared about was him inside me. I yearned for his touches and caresses.

He was above me now, kissing my neck. “I never stopped loving you. I love you to the moon and back. And I want you to be mine,” he whispered seductively.

At this moment I could grant him anything. “Baby, I’ve always been yours,” I breathed out. “I love you. And you can have me tonight. All of me.”

Sean chuckled. He had wanted to hear that this whole time. I knew that. He grabbed one of the bra straps in his mouth and pulled it lightly. I moaned. Quickly after, the other strap was between his teeth. And I was topless. He devoured each of my breasts, his tongue playing with my nipples. I moaned loudly. He put his thumb in my mouth as he went down between my legs. His lips and tongue satisfied me like no other could. God! Sean was so good! Yeah, baby!

Slowly he pulled off his boxers while I nibbled on his lips.

“How do you want it?” he said.

“The best you can,” I replied ambiguously.

“Your wish is my command,” he said and pinched my clit.

“Mmmm,” was all I could muster.

“What was that?” He did it again, rougher.

“Aaaah!” I screamed. He laughed and plunged inside me. Resolutely and with unimaginable passion.

My insides made space for his huge manhood as we started to rock. He dived deeper and deeper, grunting with me. With each movement he pushed me further over the edge of a cliff. I was on cloud nine. There was no Earth for me. I grabbed the sheets for reassurance.

In and out, in and out, he increased the tempo. The pounding of flesh against flesh was the only sounds beside my screaming and his ragged breaths.

“Oh, yes! Gimme all of it! I want you! I love you! Faster, Sean! Fuck me! Screw me like you never did!” The words were rolling on my tongue all by themselves. But they worked. I seemed to encourage him as he became fiercer, giving it his all. His perfect body was sweaty.

He hauled my legs over his shoulders, bringing me closer to him. I screamed as he adjusted in me again and fucked me as if it was the end of the world.

A couple of minutes later he rolled me on my stomach and slapped my buttocks. I yelled.

“Do you like that, babe? You naughty girl!” He spoke from behind me.

“Yes! Punish me, daddy,” I replied.

He slapped me harder making me shout with all my voice. My throat was burning.

With his hands on my waist, he thrust back in me. He rode me hard, slapping my ass and grabbing my boobs. Then his hands locked on my hair as he pulled me towards him. I was sure that I was going to finish any time now. He was an expert at this. He knew all about me. He knew what turned me on. He was the god of sex. As simple as that. The one and only. A god.

Sean’s breaths were more ragged now and his grunts louder. “I’m going to cum,” he said and pulled out of me.

As if summoned by his words, I went on my knees and took him in my mouth. Several touches of my tongue were enough for his seed to spray over me.

“Oh, fuck,” he said under his breath. That was the sexiest thing a man could ever do. Ask any woman.

After I satisfied him orally, we both fell on the bed. His fingers finished me off as the both of us moaned in pleasure.

“That was amazing,” I breathed.

“Better than last time?” Sean was out of breath. His chest was going up and down.

“Way better,” I said and played with one of his nipples that came alive under my touch.

“You were wonderful,” he said and kissed my forehead, then the tip of my nose and finally my lips. His upper lip was sweaty and I licked it.

“I love you,” I replied. I felt the need to tell him that. What could I do? A woman in love. My heart was racing like a teenager’s.

“I love you more.” His voice was hushed and intimate. He lay beside me and we stared at each other for a while. The night was still young for us. Two souls madly in love.

all of Sunday at Kayla’s parents. The atmosphere was tense all right, but not as tense as the day before. I supposed that they had accepted the fact that I was there. They couldn’t just ignore me or anything. I was right there before their eyes all the time.

Even better news was that Kayla was different. A good kind of different.

Since the moment we had woken up, we were both in a great mood. There was no space for sadness or anger or anything else. We were in love again. After playing with each other, like grownups do, we had a nice long shower. I told her that we should save water and she agreed instantly. Her parents didn’t need to pay expensive water bills when we could just squeeze in together and have a shower plus an amazing time, right? I knew I was right. And my statement proved to be an amazing way to brighten up the day. We dried ourselves, put on some clothes and voila. The day could start.

From that point on we were inseparable. We quickly found some secluded spots where we kissed and made out. We exchanged secret glances and touched underneath the table. I felt like a schoolboy again who was brought to meet his girlfriend’s parents. And I was totally surprised that I still had passion and fire in me for Kayla even after eight years. It was like we had just met.

However, we had to go home now. The weekend was over. Bye-bye!

Mia was again in the backseat while I and Kayla were in the front seats. I started the engine as Kayla waved to her parents and I honked.

“Whew! What did you think about that?” she asked me, looking into my eyes.

“What do you mean?”

“The weekend? Did you like it?” Her eyes had a mysterious glint.

“The best weekend I’ve ever had if you ask me,” I replied and Mia and Kayla began applauding.

Mia tuned in. “Really? We should spend more weekends like this.”

“Do you want us to? Really?” I asked bewildered. “You like my company?”

“Of course. You’re the best!”

The three of us chuckled.

Kayla said through laughs. “Well done, Mia. You ditched your own mother for the big guy, huh?”

Mia was quick to defend herself. “No. It’s not like that, mommy. You’re one thing and he is another. He knows things you don’t and you know things he doesn’t. That’s why I like to be with the both of you.”

My heart melted in my chest. I stopped giving myself a hard time about turning into an emotional man
.
I knew that it was because of the love I had for Mia and Kayla. I loved every single bit of it and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.

This time Mia chose the pop playlist filled with current songs and some older ones. But they were all from the 2000s onwards. A catchy song started playing as we left the Vaughn’s neighborhood. The day was already beginning to wear off. The shadows grew longer with each minute. Strange colors appeared in the sky, mixing with each other and creating a marvelous masterpiece. Hundreds of shades of red, yellow and orange intertwined. The sun was giving its place to the moon.

Kayla explained to me about her job. She told me where she was working and what she did. We were laughing about comic situations and anecdotes in the firm. We had eight years to catch up on, so it was time to start. In return I told her about my transfers and the games.

“My manager is Brent. He’s the best in the business, you know,” I said.

“Oh, you have a manager? You really did become a big fish. Just like you said you would.” She smiled. “I don’t doubt that he’s the best. After all, the best deserves the best.”

“I said that myself.” I chuckled.

Kayla burst out laughing. “Babe,” she whispered so that Mia wouldn’t hear. It had become our thing. Speaking in low voices and hiding so that Mia wouldn’t find out anything.

Night slowly settled in. And as if summoned by it, Mia lowered her head and let out a sigh of relief. She was asleep. My sweet girl.

The stars were out in millions and shining above our heads. I turned on the headlights, resuming our journey. Everything was going exactly like I had wanted. We were having an amazing family time. I put my right hand on the inside of Kayla’s thigh and she placed hers above mine. Her touch on my skin had always been comforting.

“Thank you for doing this,” Kayla whispered.

“No prob, babe. You know that I’d do anything for the two of you,” I replied also in a low voice.

“Yeah, I know. But I felt like I should tell you that. You’re really trying. You’re giving your all for us. I don’t know how I can ever repay you,” she said.

“Oh, stop it please. You’re exaggerating. I don’t want to hear that ever again. You repay me every single moment.”

An ear-to-ear grin appeared on her face. “And how is that, my gorgeous babe?”

“Wow! I like that,” I said and leaned in to kiss her. Her lips tasted like cherry. Yummy, baby! “You repay me by letting me see you every day.”

“Is that it?” Kayla giggled.

“Yeah. Your smile is all I need to go about my day.”

“I didn’t know you were so romantic.” Kayla said and this time she was the one that leaned in to kiss my lips.

“Just speaking the truth here,” I said. “And plus there’s Mia. You two are the most precious things in my life. I couldn’t bear to lose you.”

“Don’t… Don’t say that,” Kayla said a bit more serious. “We’ll always be with you. Forever and ever. Remember that.”

“I will,” I spoke and winked at her.

“About that… I mean the paternity test.”

An alarm grew inside me. What was she going to tell me? “Yeah? What about it?”

“I think we can do it tomorrow. If you’d like, I mean.”

A warm wave of feelings washed over me. Great news after great news. They were all piling up inside me. I thought I would burst from happiness and joy. Yay, yay, hooray! “Sure, sure. Yeah. Works for me. Brilliant,” I said quickly.

Kayla giggled at that. “Okay. Sorry for not bringing that up earlier.”

“You have nothing to apologize for. It’s all right.” I squeezed her hand. It became our thing. A sign of gratitude and that everything was going to be fine. Okay. “If it turns out that I’m not her father…”

Kayla interrupted me. “Let’s not jump to conclusions. Yes. The chances are like fifty-fifty. But still. I don’t want to talk about it.”

“Please, babe. Just let me finish. If the test proves that I’m not her father, don’t exclude me from her life.”

“That’s not even an option, Sean. Don’t worry.” She smiled. Her eyes did too. I saw that they were teary. These things were hard. And that was putting it mildly. The situation we found ourselves in was the stuff of movies. I guessed that truth was indeed stranger than fiction.

“Thanks for that. I really like her and I’ve kind of bonded with her. She is an exceptional girl. I’ve realized my mistakes thanks to her. She changed me. Like I never thought I could be changed. It’s marvelous.”

“What do you mean?” Kayla turned in her seat to face me. Her eyes were not blinking.

“Well, spending time with her made me understand that what I was doing wasn’t the right thing. Because of the football and Brent and my whole life, I returned to an empty home. A cold apartment with no one to welcome me or hug me or kiss me. I was lonely, you know. And I didn’t even know it. It sucked.” I was opening my soul to her. My deepest fears and thoughts sprung to the surface. And it was liberating. I wasn’t aware of all those grim emotions inside of me.

Silence. Kayla rubbed her eyes, hiding from me. She didn’t want me to see her emotional. I let her have the privacy.

“I had no idea… about this,” she said and sniffed.

“Oh,” I began and fondled her hair.

“No, it’s fine. Just some dust,” she said and laughed nervously. “You’re more than welcome in Mia’s life. In our lives. You know, I haven’t told this to anyone. But Mia wasn’t like this. Before you came she was in herself, she wasn’t that talkative and I feared for her. How was she going to live like this, introverted and alone? I sensed the lack of a father figure in her growing up. You know, kids want to have both parents. I was proved that the single parent thing doesn’t work. Not quite.”

“I understand,” I said.

“And, hey, you came then. Out of nowhere. It was like God had sent you.” She chuckled. “She’s livelier now. Energetic and enthusiastic. For once in her life she has everything. She has two parental figures.”

Perhaps now was my moment for crying. I felt my eyes wet. However, I managed to swallow back the tears. Bye-bye, playboy Sean and welcome, family-guy Sean! I liked the transition. I was looking forward to it. Honestly loving it.

“That’s… I have nothing to say. I’ve got no words. Congrats, babe. You made the master of interviews and the biggest star on the magazine covers speechless.”

We both chuckled, easing the atmosphere.

“Woohoo. Hashtag, proud,” Kayla said and we laughed some more. “Anyway, you haven’t met the nanny. Danielle. While you’re in the city you might spend some time with her and Mia. Mia likes it when she’s with her.”

“Okay. I’ll do anything Mia likes to do,” I replied and smiled.

I dropped my two girls off in the dead of night. It was around one in the morning. After kissing Mia on the forehead and hugging Kayla, I headed home. We couldn’t kiss in front of Mia. Unfortunately. So a peck on the forehead was enough for the night. But it wasn’t. I felt like a youngster.

Yawning, I entered my apartment that I rented so I could be close to Kayla and Mia without having to stay in hotels, turned on the lights and took off my coat. After that I plopped on the sofa and sat like that. Not moving. On the other hand, my mind was insanely loud. I was involuntarily reliving the trip. Mia’s happy face. Kayla’s kisses. Her naked body. Our laughs in the car. It was spectacular. I was already looking forward to organizing our next road trip.

I realized that everything was silent. And that didn’t happen with me. Phones were always ringing, buzzing, screaming or who knew what else. But now nothing happened. It hit me that I had turned it off not to be disturbed. I had everything and everyone I cared about with me, so no phones were needed. Nope.

Sighing in resignation, because I had to go back to that life, I turned on my phone. There were hundreds of notifications and a lot of them were emails. Brent. He had gone mad. Oh, buddy, buddy. I was feeling sorry for him. I laughed at that.

“What the heck do you want now?” I said aloud and clicked on the emails one by one. Everything I could expect from him. Nothing more. Nothing less.

He had booked me for hundreds of promotions and events. Parties, club openings, movie premieres, company birthdays… I lost track of them halfway through.

Without thinking I clicked on the compose button and wrote to Brent.

Yes. All that busy lifestyle of a celebrity was captivating. But not anymore. Sorry. I apologized to him. There was another priority in my life. She was small and kind and gentle and needed a father badly. I needed a cute little creature like her as well in my life. And besides we had eight years to catch up on. Eight entire freaking years. I set my mind on making up for all those years of solitude. And a few events could go on without me.

Wow, Sean, you really had changed.
