Russ turned to face his husband. “No, I’m not.” Russ drew in breath but let it out again. Now was not the time to put into words all he was thinking. “Merry Christmas, David.”

Dave’s smile was wide as Russ pulled back from the kiss. “Merry Christmas, Russ.”

He was tugged back into another small kiss, a slight spreading of lips and exchanging of breath before they turned to the business of filling their plates.

Russ looked right, finding Caroline beaming at him. Turning his head to the left, he got a nod and a smile from Hank. Feeling adventurous, he took two of the veggie puffs before setting his hand back on Dave’s thigh. In a moment, Dave’s hand covered his, and their fingers tangled.

Russ scooped up a forkful of the pasta. “So, Austin, you were telling us about playing cribbage with Grandpa?”

It finally felt like Christmas.
