I Do The Boss: Billionaire Romance (Managing the Bosses Book 5) (2 page)

Chapter 1

The sun barely peeked through the closed window shade just beside her, but it was enough to make out that Alex was already up. Awake and staring at her intently. Jamie smiled and reached out, touching the side of his face and nibbling at her lip.

"Hi," she whispered and moved closer.

"Hi yourself, sexy." He forced her to turn and press her back to his chest as his fingers danced across her outer thigh, nothing more than a feather-light touch. "I have to get up soon."

"Soon isn't now." She smiled and arched her back, rubbing her rear across his lower stomach. "What time is it?"

"Not time to get up yet." He chuckled and ran his fingers over the curve of her hip, down to cup her. "Damn, you're hot, baby. You know that?"

"Only ’cause you say so." She smiled and rolled her hips, finding his body hard and ready for an early morning romp in the sheets. "Give me what I want."

"Tell me what you want." His mouth was far closer to her ear than she thought. Chill bumps spread along her skin as he teased her to open her legs a little more. "Play naughty with me?"

"I want you." She chuckled, unable to help herself. They could play games all morning long and she would win, but there was little time for that. The clock showed ten minutes before he had to get in the shower. "Inside me."

"Good enough." He pressed his chest to her back and rocked his hips, filling her up as she lifted her knee a little and let out a low groan. Morning sex was the best, the most tantalizing. Warm skin under the sheets, and a sleepy haze that left inhibitions far from the forefront of her mind. "So tight, Jamie."

"You haven't been home much." She reached up and grabbed the headboard, pulling up and pressing back to encourage him. He would have to start thrusting, or she would do it for him.

His hand moved up her stomach and cupped her breast, squeezing softly as he licked the column of her neck.

"We need to remedy that." He thrusted hard as she let out a long sigh, completely lost to the handsome billionaire behind her. If anyone had told her that she would belong to Alex Reid, she would have laughed them off.

No way. Not a girl like me. I'm not nearly—

"You're all I want. You know that, right, baby?" he whispered before rolling her onto her stomach and mounting her. His hands flattened on the bed beside her breasts as he continued to fuck her slow and deep. "Everything I want in my life. All I need, Jamie."

"I wanna be that." She lifted her rear, working him as best she could from the position he'd put her in.

"You already are, baby." He pressed himself to her back and kissed the side of her face as he slid his hands between her and the bed and played between her thighs. "Come for me. I wanna hear it before I have to get up."

"Not until you do," she whispered and slid her hands up the bed, gripping the headboard and rocking against him as best she could.

"I'm close, but that's never a problem with you," he chuckled before pressing his teeth to her shoulder.

"That's because you know how much I adore your dick."

He groaned loudly and lifted up, pumping into her faster. "You naughty thing. You just had to—"

"Hush and fuck me, Alex. Harder." She lifted up to her hands and knees, forcing him back as he gripped her hips tightly and let her have it. Each thrust more delicious than the last. She couldn't help but smile as her head dropped down, forehead pressed to the warm sheets below. He allowed her to have power over him, but any way it came, it was heady, addictive.

"As you wish, princess." He squeezed her ass and slid one hand up to grip her shoulder tightly, using his hold to impale her over and over until she lifted her head and cried out.

Warmth burst across her stomach as he grunted that he was joining her. The concern over anything soon to come or having already passed faded. Nothing mattered but him. Him and their future together. She collapsed onto the bed, and Alex laid himself over the top of her.

"I love you, baby. You're soon to be Mrs. Reid. You ready for that?" He kissed the side of her mouth as he covered her body.

"Does it mean lots more sex?" She smiled and tried to look back to see him better.

"More sex? Good heavens, woman." He got up and walked to the shower. "If that's what you want... that's what you get."

"Yes..." she yelled and rolled over onto her back to catch her breath. He was a god, and somehow he'd chosen her.

Life couldn't get much better.

"You're late." Alex gave her a stern look as she walked into the office a few hours later that morning. After their lovemaking session, she had accidentally fallen back asleep. Being one who could rival the dead in sleeping through anything, she'd missed the alarm. She used to wake up at the crack of dawn. Somehow she’d slowly fallen from that, and when sleep hit nothing was going to wake her. She didn’t know when it started… probably when she’d moved from her apartment below Alex’s house and into his bed.

"I know. I'm sorry." She gave him a curt smile and waved at Kristen. "Morning. You doing okay?"

Kristen gave her a funny look and shrugged. "Ask me in a few hours."

There was no need to stop and apologize. Alex was probably stressed or upset about something at the office. She hadn't done anything to warrant his attitude. If she'd learned anything being with him for the last eight months it was that he was prone to lovely emotional swings, as most people in leadership were. She shouldn’t have come in late; it made her look lazy. She wasn’t and the days she came in late, she stayed late to make up for it.

"The press is coming this morning. I need you to go downstairs and only allow those up that we cleared last week for this interview." His voice was pinched, and she now realized why.

"Damn. I thought that was next week. How did I get the wrong?" She glanced over her shoulder and nodded. "Will do. Let me drop my stuff and I'll get down there. I came up through the basement, so I didn't see any of them. I assume they've gathered in fanfare fashion?"

"Like a mob of piranhas." The beginnings of a smile tugged at his lips. "You're staying in there with me for the interview."

"Whatever you want." She walked to her office and paused to glance back at the door that separated their two offices.

He was standing, half leaning against the door frame, still watching her like a hawk. "You look nice today."

"So do you, though I much prefer your early morning attire more." She smirked and dropped her bag behind her desk, grateful no one was around to hear them. Alex was rather proper at the office, which was a good break in their relationship; it only sucked when they worked more than played, which was often.

The angry red light blinking on her phone told her she had several missed calls, but seeing that she was already behind for the day, calling anyone back would have to wait. She dropped the rest of her stuff in her chair and walked to the bathroom, stopping by Paul and Mark's office to say good morning. Neither of them was there, which was a little odd.

A group of people was at the far end of the hall, gawking at something as they glanced out the large window. Mark and Paul were in the middle of it, and surprisingly enough Kristen had joined them.

"What's up, guys?" Jamie stopped beside them and wiggled her way into the crowd to glance down at the street below. Reporters looked like ants as they gathered in a large group just outside of Reid Enterprises. "What the hell?"

"Alex is giving three interviews today, right?" Mark moved back from the window and smiled. "I swear if you guys had seen him as a kid, you never would have thought that he would run anything. He was uncoordinated, and hated structure."

"Everyone grows up, Mark." Alex's voice caught her attention, and Jamie moved from the window and shook her head.

"Wow. We tell three news agencies that we'll give them an interview and the whole damn city shows up. Are the others thinking they're going to get a free shot at talking with you?" She pressed her hands to her hips.

His dark eyebrow lifted as his beautiful blue eyes moved across her face. "I would think so. I'm not talking with anyone other than those you vetted and scheduled. Now, please go grab them, and hopefully the rest will get the hint and get out of here. I’ve a busy day after all this madness is over with."

"You need some muscle to make sure no one breaks through the line?" Mark asked as he wagged his eyebrows.

Paul laughed. "If she does, then I'm in too."

"Jamie is capable of doing it herself. Get to work and stop gawking, or you'll all need to brush up your resumes." Alex gave them a look that said he was only half serious.

Half serious was enough. They all scattered, and Jamie turned and made her way to the coffee bar, picking up a quick cup of coffee, and then walking back to the elevator.

"You want me to go with you?" Kristen asked as Jamie walked back into the lobby. The pretty blond was an old friend of Alex's from his high school days. When she first showed up, Jamie had been worried that the girl was like every other woman from Alex's past, and was simply looking for an in with the handsome man whose ring she wore. And Kristen might have initially hoped for something romantic, but Alex set her straight and his brother Mark seemed to be sweet on the woman instead.

"No, I'm good, but thanks. If I'm not back in fifteen minutes, just send in reinforcements." Jamie lifted her coffee to her lips and got onto the elevator. Kristen and Alex had a special connection that tugged at Jamie's desire to protect herself, but having gotten to know the girl over the last few months, she'd grown on her. Alex's time in juvenile detention wasn't something many people were aware of, but his reasons for getting there were quite commendable. Having stood up for Kristen after her boyfriend had raped her, Alex took the guy down, but unfortunately, he didn't get back up. At least, not right away.

"Stick to the script," Jamie mumbled as she walked toward the door. "Don't answer any questions or make any sudden moves."

Three security guards glanced over their shoulders as they stood in front of the main doors to the building.

"Finally. This is ridiculous." One of them shook his head and turned to Jamie. "How are you going to do this? They've been out there since five this morning, and they're only getting more and more excitable."

She shrugged. "I'm going to tell them to back off, and only let those with a scheduled interview inside."

Another guard chuckled. "Yeah, good luck with that."

She moved through them and opened the door only to have ten microphones jammed in her face.

"Miss Connors, Mr. Reid recently asked you to be his wife, correct?"

"What's your story?"

"Where are you from? Who are your parents? Are you from another country?"

“What did you do to get him to propose?”

“You blackmail him?”

The questions went on and on, and the voices only got louder.

"I'm not interviewing, but Mr. Reid will see the three of you with whom I've scheduled interviews. The rest of you will need to contact me to set something up." She pulled her phone from her pants pocket and scrolled through, calling out the names of those who were scheduled for an appointment. Though it was trying, she kept her calm façade locked into place and moved back when the three who would be following her upstairs moved up.

None of them asked questions, which she was grateful for.

"Good. Follow me, please." She turned on her heel and walked toward the elevator as they introduced themselves to one another. The tallest of the three moved up beside her and offered his hand. "Clay Mills.
The Economist
."

"Nice to meet you, Clay. Sorry for the madness." She moved into the elevator and introduced herself to the other two as well. One was from
GQ
and the other from
People
.

"We're used to the madness. It's all part of the job." A middle-aged Asian woman shrugged and pulled her phone from her pocket. "We do have a few questions for you, at least
Time Magazine
does."

"I'll answer them as best I can after you talk with Mr. Reid. I'll be sitting in on each of the interviews today." Jamie held the door as it stopped on their floor. "If you'll just make yourselves comfortable, I'll usher you in one at a time. If you need anything, Kristen over there can help you out."

The mumbled their gratitude and walked over to the plush leather couches Alex had in the lobby.

"Just follow the schedule and send them in when I let you know that we're ready." Jamie smoothed her shoulder-length blond hair. "Anything in my teeth?"

Kristen shook her head. "Nope, and that blue shirt looks good on you. Says that you're large and in charge."

"Large?" Jamie lifted her eyebrow. The poor girl in front of her had no way of knowing that she'd been struggling with her weight most of her life.

"It's just a saying. You look great, but obviously you know that." Kristen gave her a warm smile. "It's not like Alex would date anyone who wasn't a complete bombshell, right?"
