Jack
once said, “Melanie Willow, I love you for your amygdala.”

The
amygdala determines what we see. It colors everything with emotions. Only Mel’s
amygdala is a mutation which doesn’t color anything in. Because of that Mel has
broken through the veil, but it took some intense training with Jack.

Morphic
resonance is the field of true vision, the window to the Akashic Record which
some call ‘the all and everything’. Mel describes what happened when her
morphic resonance was activated:

“It
suddenly strikes you that the tether is gone. You’ve somehow unplugged from
normal reality and you see your morphic field  right in front of you. All I can
say is it will blow your mind. You can do it if you have the right mutation of
amygdala. If you do not—don’t worry. That is why we are here, to protect you.”

Mel
explains: “It happens in a single moment. You’re looking at that person. There
is a strange sound like tapping two smooth rocks underwater. And then the other
world opens up. After that, you recognize Lians everywhere.”

Winnie’s Reprise

Hi,
I’m Winnie Hayes, Mel’s best friend—catch that Kim Li?

One
day Mel dumped a bag on the table and said, ‘My memoirs so far.’ It was funny
because she was only nineteen at the time and I was eighteen. But memoir is not
what any of it was about. Why write the books then? Because we need you to help
us. And after reading this, without any doubt you will know who you are.
Remember, we are not a cult—those rumours have been spread by our enemies.

As
I read Mel’s diaries I realized that some would think,
These are the
writings of a lunatic!
Okay. My girl is strange. Only guess what? That’s
exactly why our leader Jack chose to activate her.

I
hope this volume got through to you. If it did you’ll be seeing them everywhere
now, the dark ones, the Lian breeders—and you’ll probably want to get in touch
with us. Go to the website. There is a screening process of course. If you’re
authentic, we need all the help we can get at this stage of the game.

I
really should take some time off and then perhaps write up another volume. A
lot has been happening. This one was really hard for me because I wanted to
jump in and tell you what was really going on, but it would ruin things. Don’t
forget what the Man-rabbit said, “Imagination creates reality.”

I
wish you could see the video of Mel the night after she was entranced by him
the Man-Rabbit. What happened all around her in the video, behind her and above
her. She looked like a Medusa, only instead of snakes, it was all the little
screens of her morphic field.

The
surprising thing to me was how Jack got back in the good books with the CIA. He
was hiding, ‘dark’ he calls it, for quite a while. Then Claudia came looking
for him, and finally found him. She needed him to help hold up their end of the
whole thing with the Russians and Li International. See, the problem is, The
Ball...the people who are all really pulling the strings. That’s where Jack
rules. He knows everything that’s going on and everyone there respects him.
He’s like the unofficial leader. He just hangs there like he’s an ordinary Man-Rabbit,
doing his little party thing...

Well,
I’ve got a lot of work to do. It’s all for a good cause: recruiting. Oh, I’m
head of recruiting, Whopee! Which is why I expect to see you one day, ready to
join the fight!

Why
not?

Winnie Hayes – January 22, 2013

Editor’s Notes
:

The
Why Not
Inn was a familiar name for a pub in the novel
‘Moonfleet’ by John Meade Falkner that Winnie had to read in high school. And
it stuck; every time someone answered ‘Why not?’—there was that book again and
she’d automatically say the title. She never thought about why she did it, she
just did. Why not? And she still hopes Melanie never reads this far, so she can
keep bugging her with it.

On Human Trafficking

"Trafficking
in persons is a global crime affecting nearly all countries in every region of
the world. Between 2007 and 2010, victims of 136 different nationalities were
detected in 118 countries across the world, and most countries were affected by
several trafficking flows. About 460 distinct trafficking flows around the
world were identified during the reporting period."
United Nations
Global Report on Trafficking in Persons 2012 (Executive Summary)

The
2012 UN Report covering 2007-10 stated that the
detected
trafficking in
children rose 7%  over the last three year period report. (my italics)  Note:
In the official UN Trafficking in Persons 2012
 Executive Summary, the
word 'detected' was used
62 times
.

On
American Spelling

Some
people will notice I’ve used American spelling in this novel, even  though I am
Canadian and the novel is set in the UK and Canada. Strange, incorrect, all
sorts of problems for some. Just like that last fragmented sentence. But hey,
honestly, some of the ‘ou’ incidences of Canadian spellings look very strange
to me, and actually fewer of the American ones do. There are other examples
besides the common ‘ou’ spellings favour favor etc... the gist is, it just
makes more sense to me to use American spelling since the majority of my
readers are American. Not only that, Canadian culture is obviously dominated by
American culture and so we are getting used to seeing American spelling. An
interesting ‘ou’ discrepancy I found was The Guardian books section on the web
spelled Tana French’s novel ‘Broken Harbor’ right beside her book with that
spelling, they printed it as ‘Broken Harbour’ in the UK spelling for the word.
There are two different versions with American, UK, and Canadian spellings but The
Guardian used the wrong cover in the original review. I hope none of my
Canadian or UK friends have their knickers in a knot over this. My apologies
for the awkwardness in the spelling if it looks odd to anyone.

About
The Author – Marilyn Talia Dahl

Marilyn Talia Dahl has written and published short stories,
newspaper articles, and poetry. Today, she writes literary psychological
thriller novels; stories of girls overcoming hard backgrounds who have had
similar experiences to Marilyn's own. Marilyn uses the sharp edge of
transgressional techniques to share the skin and bone realities of these girl's
lives, as well as existentialist literary narrative to get the reader inside
their heads. Marilyn herself struggled with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Borderline
Personality Disorder but was not diagnosed until adulthood. A sensitive young
girl in a violent, dysfunctional family she looked for love elsewhere indulging
in sexual promiscuity, drugs and impulsive behaviors that led to depression and
self-harm. After a long period of these destructive cycles, Marilyn landed in a
hospital where one particular health worker took an interest and helped get
Marilyn into a residential treatment facility program for six months. There,
Marilyn met and learned from other girls who had similar problems they were
dealing with. During five years of therapy toward recovery, Marilyn performed
as a singer songwriter, exhibited her photography and published a left leaning
political broadsheet. She is currently editing her second novel, 'The Fall
Girls' due in 2014.
